      I agree, realistic and informative. Lower volume on the music when giving narrative would help guality of video.

    Chad, you seem to have overcome your sea sickness. Are you taking something for that?. Nice to see you both becoming competent on the water.

    • @CoastLife
      @CoastLife  6 років тому

      Not really. It still will creep up on me some times. It seems to flair up when something goes wrong and I have to go below. I think it is aggravated by stress/anxiety with rolly swells. I'm hoping when off shore passages go straight forward thay it won't be an issue. I'm totally fine in protected bays and harbours.

      Thanks for the heads up, Eric. The loud music level certainly wasn't intentional. We haven't had a problem in the past and this one got by us in editing. Won't happen again!

      John Burns Chad and Katie do live in a beautiful part of the world but so do you, Wales is stunning, we stayed in South Wales and passed North Wales bringing our boat from Lymington to Whiteahven.
      They are such a positive couple, they don't seem to get too worried about issues and handle them really well, with a cool head.

    Another great video, bravo! We traveled from Ontario to Nova Scotia during the 3rd week of July, racked up nearly 7,000km ( in rental) and had a chance to stop in Chester and enjoy mahone bay. Funny thing was I only knew of Chester by a vlog you posted last year when you sailed with a buddy from B.C.

    I know you don't need me to tell you, however I will. Spares are as necessary as tools on a boat.
    Minimum, belts, impellers 3M tape for water hose leaks a bung for sea cocks ect. anything you can think of that will stop a leak or make you dead in the water.
    Also a new set of belts in the spring (keep the old ones for spares).
    Otherwise we just sold our cruiser and bought a pontoon boat (old age is hell) so now we travel with you.

    Just a thought, Music should be in the background as background music not competing with the talking. I notice with a lot of U tube channels that do editing on a laptop that the background music is really loud when I watch on a desktop with good speakers. I spend a lot of time adjusting volume. I still appreciate your effort. Thank you for the time and effort spent.

    Great upload and fun adventure! I also struggle with the Audio thing everyone is talking about on my own channel. Most of it was fine watching on my TV. The sections with a voice over track seems to be the only ones that were a little close. It always sounds different once UA-cam does god knows what to the file during compression. Not sure what you’re using but I’ve found in Final Cut my clips need to be at about +10db and my music at (-)20db for the mix to sound right after UA-cam has its way with it.

    Great video! Thanks! Just wondering if you ever figured out the cause of your belt issue? I did a four day passage down the Rideau, so obviously had to motor, and had belt issues on my Yanmar pretty much every day. (Also dropped the prop shaft twice but that's another story) After trying everything including a load test on my alternator turned out it was the belts themselves. When my local supplier ran out I ordered from a place in Maryland got the belts, which were actually marked Yanmar OEM part and they had a noticeably different profile from the Mitsubishi equivalent my local supplier had been giving me. Haven't had any issues since.Just a suggestion if this problem persists.

    • @CoastLife
      @CoastLife  6 років тому

      Good information! It seems I over tightened the belt and caused it to overheat and deteriorate prematurely. I did try Mitsubishi belts last year and they wore out extremely fast.

    Next is a bimini - I'll tell ya, there is no better investment you can make in your boat than a good dodger and bimini, especially one you can stand under at the wheel, and which zips to the dodger. There is nothing like being sheltered from the sun and worst of the rain when slogging along for hours, or even sipping wine in your cockpit.

    Good videos guys, I like your relaxed and real style. A couple of thoughts: link belt, like this
    www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=30051&cat=1,240,41067
    might be serviceable for all manner of belts on board.
    Also, Chad, I hope there was no core where you drilled for your dodger (which is great!) because there is bound to be water in there sooner or later if you didn't seal it all up with epoxy or some such thing. Next comes mush. Don't ask how I know....

    • @CoastLife
      @CoastLife  6 років тому

    Can you stand some constructive criticism? Those kids were racing. It is fairly easy to tell (for future reference) since they had buoys out marking the race course and a committee boat out as well. The thing is that while the rules of the road technically apply under all circumstances, common sailing etiquette is that other boats give racers a wide berth. Now if you were a large ship that couldn't maneuver easily, the racers would have to stay away from you and they would have to adjust themselves and maybe the race course accordingly. But since you're not a large ship and can turn easily, the protocol is that you stay away from them. (That has been an unofficial but well regarded rule since some time in the 1800's?) Just sayin' - just for info. Best of luck on your travels.
