Hey Guys there were two mistakes I made on this video.
1: The original Komodo had a global Shutter. The update in the new Komodo has a completely new and overhauled Sensor.
2: There is NO DUAL NATIVE ISO
Sorry guys. I will be sure to double check my sources next time.
So much misinformation in this video! The OG Komodo has a global shutter, not a rolling shutter; neither camera has anywhere near 16 stops of dynamic range; AF has not been VASTLY improved on the KX and the KX absolutely does not have dual native ISO. RF is far more versatile than EF mount.
True.
Yes!
Hey Jon your actually right my apologies, I have pinned a comment to let everyone know about this information. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
@@AlexzarfatifilmsIt’s good of you to respond so seriously to being called out on errors like this. However, this makes me not trust that information from you can be trusted, so I’m unsubscribing. Sorry, but I have plenty of other great cinematography channels. PS. Those gangsta mannerisms. Is that normal in the US now?
BALLING ON A BUDGET
You nailed every point why we ordered the Kx. V mount, media, phantom power, and the cherry is IF auto focus is functional.
Balling on a budget! Great video again.
Balling on a budget
Thank you for your advise I have never seen any camera as my wick point I walk with what I have hoping to upgrade one day I love film making thanks...
Balling on a budget. Great video!
dude your content is fucking great. I just noticed your Sub rate, which doesnt matter but holy shit i know your already at a 1M kinda creator. Im here for it.
Damn thanks Luigi I appreciate it brother🙌🏻
Balling on a budget!
I’ve been rocking with a Sony A6400. So I’ve literally been balling on a budget. 😭
That A6400 was an OG back in the day!!
BALLING ON A BUDGET
Balling on a budget!!
While I agree the with the Komodo X being super dope (16.5 stops is insane), I still think when it comes to the run & gun shooters for corporate/doc work, they'd still stick with Sony/Canon for low light and autofocus; let alone budget.
Quite a work horse though! Excited to see what new autofocus improvements they made.
Yeah I can agree but they still haven’t released the Dual Native ISO could be a game changer
Balling on a budget!!
Great video. I'm a new subscriber i just discovered you
That’s awesome brother glad you found the channel
Ballin on a budget
Another RED, another work horse! Everything's fixed and it looks great! Jason Momoa will get a special version for sure.
Thank you for the final advice, you are right, we need to learn from our gear, master it! That is always the best and most important.
Congrats on the video!
Lol for sure MOMOA will get his own RED
Hell of a speech at the end Allen. Love the content brother, keep it up.
🙌🏻 thanks brother
Ballin’ on a budget! Great Video! I will stick to my Fx6 though ♥
Thanks Paul, the FX6 is a beast
Ballin’ on a budget! 🙌🏼
Man the Komodo x looks 🔥🔥
IT REALLY DOES!!!!
Dude, good one. Expecting bts, how to master focus, gimbal, handheld shots, etc... kind of video
Balling on a budget!!
What do you think about the rumors of a new black magic full frame L mount?
Ballin’ on a budget!
Balling on a budget!
RED is a horrible company that is holding the camera world back by suing companies trying to add uncompressed RAW for video
I didn’t know that
agree with you

Thanks!
Ballin’ on a budget!
On a budget and yeah baby... awesome camera!
Two things to note. The original komodo had a global shutter and the Komodo-X does NOT have dual native ISO, though it does have extra latitude in the shadows.
Hey Tyler thanks for the note. I just realized you are right the original had a global shutter but are you sure about the Dual native ISO? I read that on RED’s website that it would have Dual Native ISO.
ballin' on a budget fr
Balling on a budget! Man, if only my bank account could afford this lol.

🎉
Balling on a budget! The Reds is regardless of the fetures, a fantastic looking camera.
That sounds really good Alex, but I will never quit my FX6 😍 balling on a budget 🎬
Hahaha that’s a great camera for sure 🤘🏻
balling on a budget. if i win this imma make a short film every week for the rest of the year
1:11 since when does the original Komodo lack a global shutter 🤔?
Your right my mistake the original had a global shutter

Balling on a budget!
This looks like an amazing camera. The only thing giving me pause is that I’m still waiting on the Z Cam Pro to see value-for-money and IQ.
For a small crew and one man band, RED’s proprietary approach might still be the biggest block to these cams. Individually, they’re a massive innovation for the industry. As a system, RED almost seems like it’s working to try and hold the industry back for the sake of keeping everyone in its walled garden.

Talking about doing all things on your own.. One need a fully functional autofocus when in front of the camera as a one man production company...
However, the autofocus is said to be horrible on all Panasonic gh cameras and most cinema pocket cameras...
-how good is that on a cinema camera in 2023 where you cannot pull the focus , like on either the Black Magic cinema packet 4k or the gh5s really for documentary work where you are the narrator in front of the camera, or vlogging, or acting on your own short films, monologues, or other types of broadcasting live where you cannot see what is going on due to filming yourself and being focused on your content in the moment of acting, interviewing etc?
-is the GH5S in 2023 still worth it compared to the BM p4k that seem to not have any autofocus? ,,,
of course one set the focus ahead and try to stay in frame ,
but at the same time as an actor, spokesperson, reporter you also need some freedom to move around within a set blocking to improvise and extend your bodily mimic while creating facial expressions and leaning here and there to show what you are reacting to or who you are addressing outside of what we see in a scene...
Then, having no focus-pull person assisting you but still wanting a cinema camera giving you the best cinema image to make it look as if it is film, what camera in 2023 that can help you as a one man crew ?
- What would you suggest for film-making short-films on your own where you are both the cinematographer, director and the actor in front of the camera?
Sigma FP? .. hmm, but is highly expensive format of shooting , and cannot seereviews on it having an excellent autofocus in video mode, really not much about its' autofocus at all ,
so what then in 2023 is worth looking into?
Do you honestly believe that Black Magic really will release a L format pocket cinema camera with autofocus and IBIS in 2023 that could solve all these things for the one-man-film-production company?
what are your thoughts on the demand on such tech in 2023? What to best choose?
thanks for getting back!
My recommendation for what your looking for would have to be the FX3.
It’s a bit pricey but it checks all your boxes. I think it’s an amazing camera especially when you consider the awesome features like autofocus and ibis and really high ISO.
Balling on a budget
But great video, its such an amazing camera.

That extra dynamic range is HUGE! just the 2 stops is such a massive difference! I would love to play around with some of that footage in Resolve!
ME TOO MAN LOL
I APPRECIATE YOU. I FIND ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE. PUT OUT THE VIDEOS THAT ASSIST IN MY CREATIVITY. I WILL FOLLOW YOUR ADVICE. GREAT VIDEO, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. ✌️
Thanks Byron! I have a TON OF THEM ON THE CHANNEL!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
You missed the best thing which is the RED Codec!! the 6K was already a global shutter, so far as I know it does not have two base ISO, simply because it shoots RAW, in RAW there is no base ISO.

OG Komodo has a global shutter + 16+stops of dynamic range. The KOMODO-X is capabale of recording in 6K 17:9 / R3D ELQ at 80fps, and 4K at up to 120fps. As a comparison, the original KOMODO was only capable of recording up to 40fps 6K 17:9 (6144 X 3240) in REDCODE HQ, MQ and L. In 4K 17:9 it can record up to 60fp
Idk man I heard a P!
So ima say it!
PAULIN ON A BUDGET!!😂😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ballin on a budget
Ok. Gotta clear up some information. You cannot rely on the manufacturer's claims for dynamic range. You have to know
1. What exactly is being measured when the stops are counted. In other words what's the cutoff in the shadows
2. What method is being used to calculate and what settings are used.
This is why you need exact information and controlled setups and most importantly transparency. So far I only know of cined and Gerald undone who do dynamic range tests that can be compared between different cameras
Good point that is true. How do you go about conducting those tests? And do you know the kind of metrics we should be looking out for?
@@Alexzarfatifilms as far as I'm aware you gotta buy expensive equipment. I think Gerald Undone explains it in a video of his. He uses a Xyla 21 chart.
Filmmaker IQ once DIYed a similar chart, but you can't use that to produce reliable data that can be compared to other outlets. It's just useful to get a rough estimate.
What would be better to get the new red or a bunch of grip gear (light stands, c stands, lighting modifiers, boom poles, and other stuff like that)? I am leaning toward the grip stuff because that will last for years, but I love the idea of a global shutter camera.
What camera are you using now?
@@Alexzarfatifilms A bmpcc 4k for a b cam, and a canon c70 for an a cam and the gh6 for a crash cam. (I have vazen anamorphic mft lenses and that’s why I didn’t switch to another camera mount yet. I use an anamorphic taking lens for my c70.)

Man, the new Komodo X looks amazing. I've graded footage from the original Komodo and that camera already knocks it out of the park. Can't wait to see what the new guy can do too!
Balling on a budget
new to the channel but i like your stuff
Thanks glad to have you😊
I think the reason creators focus on gear so much is because it's the one aspect of the creative process that you can immediately level up. For example, learning to tell better stories, direct, edit, takes a while to get get good at. A brand new cinema camera will look better than a Canon SL2, that is a drastic upgrade in quality. A creator can start showing how serious they're taking their craft. Even though they understand Spielberg can make one of the greatest films only using a Canon SL2.
That is a very true statement I’ve never thought of it that way before
One of the worst things about creating videos is clients constantly asking have you got the new "X" or the latest "Y". Story is everything and always will be.
I agree so much on your end thought. People keep fovusing on the least important factor of filmaking : gear. It is important but not as much as finding concept, ideas, writing, preproduction, contructing each scene, having a string vision om the mood and overall cinematography, directing on set, lightning, etc. Im glad im almost out of this gear nonsense, and my craft is getting so much better since.
I’m glad to hear that man. That’s by far the best thing you can do.
Beginners focus on gear
The more seasoned filmmakers focus on craft and cinematography
And the masters perfect the art of storytelling.
@@Alexzarfatifilms I'm still on the second category, but i'd like to start my way to the last one ! but still so much to learn on cinematography. and i mainly do adverts, i never directed a "true" narrative.

balling on a budget. I'm considering getting the fx30 though
Really can I ask why?
@@Alexzarfatifilms for half the price of the FX3 it’s almost a no brainer.. BUT the rolling shutter on the FX30 is a big no from me..

Just FYI, the classic Komodo was advertised as a global shutter camera and 16 stops dynamic range but actually only manages 13.5, so… maybe dont just take the Komodo-X specs sheet at face value mkay?

I tought that you will be making video about the Canon eos M custom body😁, but the RED Komodo X is beast. If i've been buying sometthing for cinema purpose, i will get something from RED.
Sony FX series are more easy use and for the price the image quality is incredible. Arri is not for one operator and is expensive. Canon is nice, but its not my cup of coffe.
Red's output looks like if it was from eye, not sharpened smooth clean image as i like.👍

12000$+ with cards, batteries and accessories isn't "ballin on the budget" it's actually OK as it already sits somewhere in-between of pocket 4k and Alexa
lol, just checked your subscriber count.
Congrats! I was there from the first week 💪
DUDE!!!!! What’s up how have you been? You are a true OG
@@Alexzarfatifilms Preperations have been made. When everything goes smoothly, I am starting my video production Business this Summer.
That’s incredible man congratulations🙌🏻
This will be my first camera ever. I’ve looked into many and this is the one I want to start my journey with. I’m not into this for the money I’m into this for the fun at this point and the money will come later. I want to enjoy what I’m doing and have the pieces I need for what ever the shoot and yes I know it’s going to be expensive when getting the tools I’ll need and that’s ok because I’d rather stay out with something I love to shoot with but at the end of the day it’ll come down to experience and how well I know how to shoot and how to utilize my camera and use the necessary resources and understanding lighting because to me that’s the most important aspect when wanting a clean shot. I’m going to learn if I’m wrong pretty soon.
Ballin’ on a budget!
I cant even afford this even selling my kidney! but It'll be a dream come true if I got this!
Initial investment is probably closer to $15k or more on the new X after you add the cards and RED monitor.
No NDs?
Balling on a budget! I’ll be looking at your other tutorials. Thanks!

Komodo x is the camera every filmmaker need it!

@@Alexzarfatifilms BTW, great video / review. Thanks. One day I'll be able to get a Komodo!
Great video, man. I'm also a Blackmagic user (Pocket 6K Pro) and I'm melting with this camera! Cheers from Italy
Love Black magic and Love Italy glad you found the Channel! 🙌🏻
Besides the two more stops of dynamic range not sure what’s makes this camera 10k. I’ll stick with the work horse URSA
URSA is a great camera
Ballin on a Budget! I was robbed of my two BMPCC 4k in 2019. Im always amazed at what the Reds can do. I have been dying to shoot on something like that. Looking forward to your content with the new gear!
What do you mean that komodo has rolling shutter?! Both komodo and x have grobal shutter.

16.5 stops!!! Can't wait so put my hands on it.
ballin on a budget! yo this RED is nuts! great vid bro
This looks like an amazing camera That sounds really good Alex
You can't go wrong when using the RED, it is a BEAST!
It's really exisitng, Extra 4,000 for the same sensor 😂
You garanteed me at the beginning that i would want to buy it after ive seen your video. Well, still not. Fx6 all the way. I like fullframe, but also i love shooting slowmo in full sensor, and red is always cropping (maybe that is not the case for this one?). Also red boot up time is soooooooooo long you can miss important shots. And one of the most important aspect for me : no internal NDs!! Rhere are solutions with adapters, but when you want to switch on and off it is a pain. And like you said in another comment, it is actually not dual iso. I would say this is one one the less desirable cameras of the year, for me at least. Add FF, internal ND, no crop slowmo, dual ISO of 800 and 6400 or 12800, quick bootup time, and then maybe i'll consider, but that will only start to compare to FX6. Of course image quality is paramount, but when you see the big hollywood movie DOPed by greg fraiser in the FX3, you can relax on that. All moder. Cameras are great now. Pick the kne that fits the best your workflow/way of shooting. I have the combinaison of FX6/a7s3 and this is great for me.
16,5 stop of DR... it seems marketing and not real ! It is in the catégory of the arri35. If this is True, this is great
Ballin on a budget. And we're talking about a RED Komodo X - I guess we're not saying it's a small budget!
What I like most about this is that it helps Sony position the future FX9 mkII.
Yeah definitely not a small budget
love your content
Thanks brother 🙏🏻
Balling on a budget! Interesting video 🔥
Balling on a Budget! This looks awesome
The original Komodo is a global shutter too…
Got mine yesterday and it's been a better experience than the original. The dynamic range is very similar but cleaner in the shadows. Shot for a few hours yesterday at 6k 80 an Didn't come anywhere close filling up the 512 card (not angel bird). and that was LQ. Shooting in ELQ and it's like 12:1 compression so you are getting very good capacity.
GOOD TO KNOW! Thanks for sharing Brandon!
@@Alexzarfatifilms for sure. It’s a special camera for sure.
Shipping already?! Crazy.
I get mine today, so pumped to use it. Other than DR, do you feel the image quality is better overall?
@@ItsBerg I am not seeing anything major. But, we shouldn't. The shadows look cleaner, but as far as image is concerned they said they tweeted the color to better match the raptor.
