For the price of a Komodo X, you can buy a Komodo and a Sony FX3. That will give you a A-Cam with Red raw and a b cam with great autofocus and low light.
This makes more sense? Or a canon R5 or R5c if rf ecosystem is priority.
Komodo X is sick but price point is big
@@Abdi_Mohamed_ Agreed! Komodo and R5/R5C combo would be a killer combo! I currently have a Komodo / S5IIX combo and they're fantastic together.
@@Abdi_Mohamed_I mean it’s RED it’s price is backed by it’s name like Arri
My biggest problem with RED is that they constantly drop new versions which really kills their shelf lives. As a buyer I have no peace of mind buying a RED knowing they will drop a new model shortly after.
Who cares, use it if you like it
@@raildude270 you’are right but it still makes it a bad investment
This doesn’t make a lot of sense. The life cycle of red products is certainly slower than some of these major companies like Sony or canon, and Red cameras all the way back to DSCM-1 are still being used regularly on productions and perform beautifully.
imo, canon and Red are not targeting the same market
2 years after the komodo's release, you can find it used for half the price.
In 2018 a Red scarlet would have cost you 20K and five years later you can buy it used for under 5k.
In 2015 Arri released the Alexa mini for 30k and 8 years later it's almost the same price
@@moviedcrea sure but that’s just the nature of the beast. Not specifically a red thing. Arri is the exception cause well it’s arri…and there’s nothing above the alexa mini that can be had for under 60k, so still a lot of desire for the mini. And I’m not sure a Komodo is the best example of this as it’s already more of a budget friendly red. I doubt you’ll see that raptor cutting in half in price any time soon. But this also can be a great thing and allow slightly older cameras to be had for much cheaper like the 11k Monstro I picked up. Just because something new comes out doesn’t make the camera itself obsolete when it’s so capable.
Wonderful video Brandon! Need more of this.
What's the glass and frame rates used to capture the baseball game? Really enjoyed that!
Second full day with the Komodo X. I’m loving it man. The two record buttons having a half-press custom function is great. Looks like we all win. OG Komodo is great. The X was my choice because I’m new to Red and I could stretch the budget for the latest Komodo. The I/O really helped make the decision. The inputs, integrated V-mount, faster touch screen and improved internal audio. I’m really at the beginning but I’m REALLY enjoying it. A lot. Cheers man!!
I can see the og Komodo continuing to be more popular with solo shooters and small teams because of its lower competitive price. The Komodo X will be solely rented as b cams for bigger productions.
Hi Brandon, I joined your Creative Fam Academy and was looking for the camera guide on the komodo x but could not find it. Is it released yet? thanks
Question:
Should i upgrade from the OG Komodo to the Komodo X? I use the Komodo for A-Cam. And is it possible to mount the DSMC Monitor to a Gimble or just on the komodo?
PLEASE do a Komodo X vs V-Raptor Comparison like you did with this video! I know they are in a different league of their own but this will help me decide! I do have the money. But I'm thinking about weight, size, autofocus for purposes of gimbal work as well but do not want to invest in both if I can avoid it.
Don't buy a Raptor make alot of money with what u got first then Make the move to Komodo x
Great video thank you!
OG Komodo has a slight yellow tint - that’s it. It’s not “in the skin tones” but the entire image .
Resolve printer light yellow -.5
Could you please shed some light on the benefits between the raptor VV and S35. Also within the context of which one you would prefer to use alongside the Komodo X
Great review, man I hope it’ll be this camera, if not then an A7C and if that doesn’t workout, I don’t mind making my short films with my iPhone 14Pro
So brother I have a question for you I currently own a Komodo and was debating getting either a raptor or a Komodo x have been debating the two for days now I was wondering what’s your opinion on that
spot on fire content thanks
Aloha, how those the x compare to epic w helium? Price and quality shots?
Hey, what lens are on the Komodo?
you didnt say anything about its type C for video output. that can help avoiding errors with the sdi that is prone to damage
Love your video! 🎬
Hi Brandon. What's the actual dynamic range on the Komodo-X in the editing? Komodo OG was 13+ stop.
Love my X. All the little improvements have made for a big improvement in the experience.
I hear all of your points, but TBH I do think the hot swappable BPs was a better design. I understand that it's a higher voltage requirement in the X that necessitates a vmount, but the compactness of the OG Komodo with a pair of BPs on the back is awesome and still runs for hours. A big part of Komodo's appeal to me is that it's tiny...if I wanted something bigger, I'd buy an FX6/FX9/C500ii etc with built in NDs, better preamps, more I/O etc.
FX6 all the way.
Nice work y’all! Making me want the KX now!!!😂😂😂
Thanks for this video ❤
Great review. The original Komodo footage to me didn’t have the “it” factor that the Komodo X has. Thank you for showing side by side same day, same lighting footage between the two. The difference in image quality is massive. The Komodo X while very expensive has performance that matches its price. I can’t afford either right now, but a GH6 is a good budget option for less jello in high movement footage when on a budget. But even a GH6 isn’t free. 😊
I have the original Komodo - so - I suppose - I’m biased - but - unless you’re talking of low light situations (or maybe a fashion video that emphasises facial cosmetics) - I think “massive” may be a bit of an exaggeration !
I think that the metric from users i have spoken to is that because of the red na.e and relative high price compared to consumer cams like fx3 and bla kmaguc, they thought that they could just use iso to "expose" and not light scenes. The vast majority crappy footage is poorly exposed footage. Traffic lights are your friend. Especially when not using r3d. It results in flat noisy images. The price difference between the X and the 6k make them almost completely different cameras. Its hard to take comparisons that are not at least close in price.@Digibeatle09
Absolutely not worth the price difference. Spend the money on lighting instead.
Is that discovery green park in Houston?
How do you feel about the 70-200 for the OG Komodo
i do like more the dragon x 6k dsmc2 over the komodo x ! that dragon sensor is a beast ! and more frame rates ! ok its not a global shutter sensor , but is a fast reading sensor , i do recommend more to people on goin over second hand dsmc2 over komodo / X ! the red raven also is a good choice for under 5000 dollars with full package if you are coming from a mirrorless world
I just purchased a Komodo 6K which is probably crazy as it might become obsolete very soon but 4K £ it’s a big difference
Let’s say with the X you include 400£ of V Mount, and another 300£ for the extra connections, and 200£ for the c express compared to the c-fast. They would make 900£. Still another 3100£ difference to justify. I wonder
If I made a huge mistake
Bruh where you finding a komodo for 3-4k foh and if you do shit got mileage on it or sdi burnout. I actually work in the industry trust me the komodo is fine for most work especially if you’re coloring your footage properly.
The color science is close between the OG and X. It's not that different at all maybe just and increase in saturation.
I would love to see a comparison of the Komodo X to the Canon C70.
I’ll see what I can do!
@@bwashmedia you the man!
Komodo X project Part 2 is outtttt
Actually, the og komodo is just fine to shoot any projects for tv/movies, as I have not seen any difference from x to og from any of youtubers who are paid to hype it up. Im filming a tv show with the og as a camera np at all.
In a year this same kid will be uploading his video "Why the OG Komodo its more FILMIC!!!"
@@user-zv7lm8uk7h you talking about me ?
Good video! Wish I could afford either lol!
wow i need a x now. still love my og komodo lol
Pls where can I buy a used Komodo for a good price, without being scam
Im seeling one for $600. its not a scam!
@@user-zv7lm8uk7h how do I reach out to you
OG Red Komodo for 3k… I’m still looking 🧐
at the end of the day... U ARE KOOK BRO
8:23 Rolling shutter is so bad though.
Lol that was a transition
@@bwashmedia I know 😁
AHAHAHAHA
For the price, you can buy Three Blackmagic 6K Pro with lenses and batteries and have the same image quality
The OG Komodo is still great
In a year this same kid will be uploading his video "Why the OG Komodo its more FILMIC!!!"
Two bed camera
who doesn’t love context?
Fx3
Id like to watch the video but that title made me not watch it. I hate klickbait. Just fyi
I honestly thought watching this would make me content with the OG and not want to upgrade to the Komodo X…. I was wrong lol
I disagree. Although he makes some good points on the upgrades and I could see how it’s definitely better, he fails to mention that the difference is still $4k. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather use that money for other bells and whistles. If you have that money, then go for it.
@@brylo4 for sure, it’s definitely a huge investment. I run and gun pretty much all of my stuff and the low light performance alone is enough to make me consider it along with the general image. Since i already have all of the accessories from my OG Komodo it wouldn’t be a huge investment other than the body itself. I’m gonna stick with my Komodo for the next year, but I’ll probably be upgrading it in the future when it makes sense for me.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I had tried the Komodo some time ago and it seemed to me to be more of a medium level documentary camera and with images absolutely not comparable to my very old 12 years Alexa with a 16 bit true color sensor which still remains unattainable. Komodo X with its 14 bit color sensor and ProRes 444 12 bit hope be a step in right direction... I dont believe in pixel resolution but only in deep color definition and dynamic range
