In the novel “The Lords of Silence” it actually talks about how the death guard feel about Morty and Typhus. It essentially boils down to the older members are extremely loyal to Mortarion whereas the newer members flock to Typhus
Makes sense. Typhus screwed all of them over for his own ambition. Mortarion, for all is shortcomings and bitterness, never sold out his sons. The whole reason he gave in to Nurgle was to save them. Typhus would never do that.
Mortarion: "I can't be anti-Psyker! I have a Psyker friend! Anyway, now it's time for me to go to the Council of Nikea, where I will attempt to strip rights from Psykers."
Fun Fact : Mortarian has his father's soul bound to a torture device of his own design which constantly destroys and restores its energy, causing unknowable amounts of despair, pain and more; a symbolic attempt at finishing what Big E stole from him. @paigewilson5585 you’re crushing on a walking corpse so bloated that he’s BOUND TO HIS ARMOR? And he’s swarming with flies? You know what; I’m curious.
In talking about the hierarchy of Nurgle it is important to keep in mind that the chaos gods are insane in regards to mortal reality, and that they are complex and intricate in what they value, despair is ultimately what Nurgle is about. The fact that Mortarion lives a life of such absolute despair is a sign that he is vastly more well liked by Nurgle than Typhus. You could sort of see as though the two of them are children, Papa Nurgle gives one of them a lot of stuff and doesn't bother keeping track of their goings on, whereas the other has been set to take over the family business and is held to a high standard by the parent.
"His mother was drowned by the village people" As soon as I heard that my brain immediately went "It's fun to stay at the WHYYYYYYYY M C A! *DIE DIE DIE!!* "
I think its worth mentioning that mortarion turning traitor and falling to chaos are two very different moments with very different reasons. As you mentioned mortarion turned traitor because of the whole tyrant thing but he fell to chaos because he was forced to the decision by typhus to let his legion suffer or turn to chaos. Although its a bit inconsistent Mortarion does seem to care a lot for the death guard who he rallied and spent many years trying to save on barbarus. Edit: Oh and correct me if I'm wrong but I think most of the death guard were willing to suffer but Mortarion "saved" them.
That is a common avenue for many chaos worshippers, first they turn against the Imperium with the best of intentions or at least genuine disgust towards its many flaws, only afterwards they consciously turn to chaos. Often they are manipulated by chaos from the beginning, sometimes chaos only comes into play when they are already traitors. And Mortarion dooming his still loyal sons by commiting treason to save them is just absolutely a chaos thing.
No, his sons wanted him to kill them, and when he tried to do so they would not die. The only thing that they were able to say to him after that were unintelligible gurgles. After the event most of the death guard still respect mortarion, because even after all the suffering the experience, it’s still better than living on barbarus

Edit: I just got to the part where you mentioned Corswain, but my point here stands. Really glad you’ve decided to start talking about the 1st Captains. One character that you should definitely look into is Corswain of the Dark Angels. While he isn’t exactly the 1st Captain of the 1st Legion, he’s basically the equivalent of the other ones (the guy was similar to Sigismund in terms of swordsmanship skill, but also had the level headedness of 1st Captain Ralderon of the Blood Angels). He isn’t as famous as some other characters such as Typhus or Kharn, but he actually does some super important stuff. He’s the one who stabs Konrad Curze in the spine while he was choking the Lion, and he also liberates the Astronomicon during the Siege of Terra (which allows the Ultramarines and remainder of the Dark Angels to arrive, which is what causes Horus to take the gamble that ends with his defeat). Heck, one of the first things he does after arriving on the Sol system is come up with the idea to use the Emperor’s personal flagship as a battering ram to break through the traitor blockade

I actually really can't wait to hear about the loyalist first captains, I've never heard anything about them!
I am building a Ghostkeel as I listen to this, I was not expecting the Nurgle underboob. Thanks, I absolutely hate it.
I'm still holding out hope for the barber shop quartet Great Unclean One poster.
Hell yeah nurgle episode while I'm quarantined with covid let's gooooo
The Plague Father bears his gifts
I see the Death Guard, in their Cataphracti armour and scythe, and all I can think is...
"To hell with Mutant League Hockey, I didn't know until now that I needed a 40k based sports game loosely based around hockey. I pity the guard, but good luck getting past the Lehman Russ in goal."
Adding a Tzeentch Easter egg into a Nurgle centered episode, classic
My phone fell off my hand, hit my cat and when I picked it up this video was starting (I already had UA-cam opened, but still). THIS IS THE WILL OF THE OMNISSIAH.
2:43 lol, lmao, excellent choice of images shy.
"this world eater virus is moving like an invasive species"
Do you smell it? That smell. A kind of smelly smell. A smelly smell that smells... smelly...
Typhus.
23:57 That’d be awesome! Mortarion is a Primarch I think always deserves a second read, a lot of his character gets overlooked or under appreciated.
Please do the lords of silence book for the next bookclub! 👌🏻 great death guard book. The voice acting on the audiobook is so good aswell 👍🏻
I am at a cafe in Japan studying, and I almost spit out my ice to the phrase "oh they fuckin fuckin"
Thanks y'all and cheers!
Going back to old episodes with more fun stuff? Oh boy! I can't wait for Addendum Rediculous
Great name!
I really hope you do an episode on Nathaniel Garro. He technically is a Death Guard character, he kind of is the first Grey knight and began the whole chapter. And did a whole lots of other stuff in the Heresy it could probably fill up an episode. He just is a chad and I really hope he gets one
i only just now realized that the death guard were called that because they were a militia to take down the ruling class of necromacers. they were litteraly guarding the dead
13:55 I guess it wasn't fun to stay at the YMCA for Typhon and Mom
I'm with DK on wanting to see Angron without the nails in a Whatif. Trekking into head cannon to think about it...
Dornian heresy
Roboutian heresy.
Yall should really do Blood Ravens sometime. Some of the shit they had achieved and the mystery of their origins is really interesting
Typhus is the cool stepdad, and Mortarion is the drunk dad that questions we're he went wrong
Oh baby what a good day. Eons of battle paints up Mortarian and here I am learning all about My most recent paint project Typhus. Thanks boys for making this a great day to be a Death Guard main.
"I'm just a Cadian girl living on a Cadian worl---oh." [singing]
if you are curious about the death guard and nurgle, i recommend the book ”lords of silence”
The whole resistance fighter (double meaning) of the death guard is the whole reason i started collecting them for 30K (40K world eaters because Angron "mini")
This is sick. I hope we do Shiban Khan (and Torghun Khan). White Scars lore is sick.
Typhus is almopst as much of a chad as Fabius, in terms of outsmarting and outshining their primarch
Nurgle's gifts can take a very long time to kill you ^^
In Dark Imperium, a normal human who was talking to Typhus, got changed into a flesh abomination, then had a Plaguebearer summon through his stomach and talk to Typhus, and only after the Plaguebearer returned to his garden that the man in question finally died XD
The great swerve, sounds like a sex move only a space marine can preform.
For some reason and I don't know why but one of Typhus's main beef with Mortarion is that he doesn't like Mortarions obsession to nurgle numerology
How many times has DK landed on the answer and completely talked himself out of it?
If you like the golden brown artwork. Grimdark Compendium kit bagged the artwork and it's PHENOMENAL
Videos on the 1st capitains will be great. Eager for the Sigismund one
Typhus is the disgruntled employee that left an abusive boss and is now coworkers with said boss, working under an even more hostile working environment.
When you get to Sevatar episode, I highly recommend reading Aaron Dembski-Bowden's The Long Night. It's a short story, but very insightful for how he was feeling by the end of the Heresy.
As my father would say:
"Christ, that's gross. I'm trying to eat here!"
Just kidding. It's my fault I'm watching this
Thanks to TTS Typhus talking like Gilbert Gottfried will always be my headcannon. No chance to convince me otherwise.
Absolute perfect timing, I am about to finish painting my typhus mini and needed something to listen to. Big fan of the show please keep up the great work!!!
You'll be happy to know that not only is chicanery a word, DK used it correctly
12:15 Damn, Calus Typhon's terminator armor and color scheme looks fuckin Sweet.
Im yelling at my phone for DK to just guess Typhus. He gets SO CLOSE.
GODDAMMIT DK!
The moist cod of Nurgle must flow and splirt through the defenses of Cadia once again. Heh heh hee.
It’s a great honor to be invited to this magnanimous show you have created. The pustules within my colon are most pleasantly warmed by you generosity.
By the way, you know what a Clit-Torus is? ~Typhus Herald of Nurgle.
I hope you have a very unpleasant day for making me read this
hell yeah baby, never let the space marine content dry out
Before I even watch the video, I wanna mention that this came out as I'm building the Death Guard combat patrol! Massive thanks, and a big recommendation for the book Lords of Silence if you'd like an introspective on how the Death Guard think, great book.
Hello, Bricky and DK, I noticed you were curious about an alternative universe where Agan found peace and was free of the butcher's nails. The rebooting heresy may be worth a read.
