    In my opinion, lecrerc fits into a special category called,
    “best of the best/something to prove”
    He had a couple of silly mistakes, and also, he needs to question ferrari strategy.
    He needs to embrace the champion in him. He needs to be confident about his instinct and experience as a driver. Even carlos questioned ferrari strategy in monaco and he finished second.

    • @KiwiAlchemista
      @KiwiAlchemista Рік тому +4

      did you not see last race when he told ferrari to continue on one stop. as for monaco what could he have done, the pit stop would have kept in first if it wasnt for a double stack, thats why it was stupid, they double stacked them, how would he know that sainz was pitting too. and also he has been calling shots recently.

      @@KiwiAlchemista One race does not erase a whole season full of instances of insecurity and gullibility towards the team strategies. Did you not saw sainz firm posture on his convictions when it came to team strategies?
      By the way, I did saw that Leclerc had an input in abu dahbi, good for him. Still, he's gonna need to "eat, breath and eat" of that attitude. Because next season is not gonna be just redbull, its gonna be mercedes aswell.. And they are coming full force.

      @@rickyricardo2006 like I said I was giving one instance of you watch other races you would see that leclerc has an input in strategy, and what firm posture are you talking about sainz they asked him if he would like to box he said no they agreed, they didn’t order him to box. He didn’t go against anyone, even in silverstone, they agreed with him after he said he can’t be behind ten spaces, he didn’t go against anyone. And it is not their job to dictate strategies, and what gullibility, please explain with an example on that because I have no clue what you mean. Yes he should be more assertive but your making him like he’s some brainless idiot compared to sainz when they both are the same in making strategies.

      @@KiwiAlchemista it’s obvious you see and hear what you want to hear. The “stop inventing guys” from sainz was epic. Thanks to that response from sainz, he was able to snatch a podium. Charles needs to let his “balls” loose and grab the bull by the horns!

      @@rickyricardo2006 your saying i see and hear what you want to hear, your delirious your next point just contradicted what you just said. its obvious you see and hear what you want by listening to "stop inventing guys" as any sort of argument. He had fresher tires my guy, thats why he won (not a podium a win btw) because ferrari favoured him not because of any strategy from him, they asked him to pit, not the other way around. And again he was asked not ordered to give space. if they truly wanted him to do that they would have countered him immediately and told him twice but they immediately agreed and let him attack. Just because he has catchy catchphrases does not mean hes any better at strategizing than leclerc, and thats not a negative thing to sainz, drivers job is literally to drive, the strategy team has to get better. Regardless they both have called shots and hopefully will have a better year next year

    20:33 It's pretty surprising to see how many reliability issues Alfa has been having. They didn't have so many last year, Kimi and especially Antonio weren't DNFing all that much. • @greatdays3584
    @greatdays3584 Рік тому +336

    I think something that most people forget about Mick is that his crashes don't just cost money - they cost time and also car quality. In some of his crashes, he completely obliterated the car and Haas only had 2 weeks to repair it before the next race, completely stalling whatever development progress they had going for them and also putting them behind on the time-table, which I think has been a pretty big factor on the decline of Haas throughout the season. They've lost so much time reconstructing Mick's car, which is time that they could've used to develop new things for it, it's a shame tbh, we could've seen a much better Haas car throughout the season if Mick didn't crash it so much

    • @janesuprise8669
      @janesuprise8669 Рік тому +55

      Mick's consistency has been greatly hampered by the team and horrible strategy calls. In Bahrain and Spain they didn't change tires during a safety car. Both times he got passed by everyone who did. Zandvoort was unacceptably long pit stops (10 and 5 seconds). Japan was bad strategy hoping for a crash/safety car. He's had his share of mistakes but the team has screwed him just as much.

      @simla5 Рік тому +7

      @@janesuprise8669 That's true, but people tend to forget how small team Haas is. When you look at it from their perspective, I'd rather have 2 slightly slower but more consistent and less crash prone drivers like K-Mag than Mick that is often faster, but crashes way too often.
      I think Mick showed a lot of times this season that he has what it takes to race in F1 and I think he deserves one more season to show what he can do, but I completely understand that Haas is not willing to put in the possible time and money that his crashes cost.

    Lewis. Like damn, how has he challenged RB for wins and positions more than Ferrari this season? Really proves where he stands
    Checo. I think he belongs in a category of his own like Leclerc. The issue for both of them is that while they have the pace and skill, they can't make their team their bunny. Checo couldn't get Max to lose 1 point in the sprint despite winning the championship. His issue is team priority.
    Stroll. He's just complacent. I mean, if he just has no jeopardy, why will he improve? He will only relax and waste it. Man's got poles, podiums in midfield cars. Just needs to feel the need to improve

    I think Charles is borderline champion. He lacks Max’s consistency and ability to whip the strategy team into shape as lead driver. He is just extremely fast and in full fighting contention. I obviously know Ferrari shouldn’t leave him in that position every race and they haven’t been equipping his car with an engine but instead a bomb but I feel Max has shown an absolute masterclass dominance this season and he has many other attributes as a driver that Charles has lacked in certain areas.

      I can't imagine the mental toll of all the Ferrari incompetence week in and week out hasn't contributed to his occasional mistakes. Listening to the radio after qualifying is just a driver who is dejected. Everyone says that he needs to take matters into his own hands for strategy, but that shouldn't be his job, and all it accomplishes is him second guessing everything the team does.

There are always things to improve and Redbull, despite all its faults, is a team that is extremely cut throat. They will accept angry driver feedbacks and let it go for the sake of performance. If Charles rightfully did that to Ferrari, he'd be subject to massive backlash from Ferrari management and politics.
      Schumacher and Hamilton as well have gotten heated with their strategic calls even though they weren't bad calls. You need to be able to dish out venom when the team is letting you down this way in championship battles.

    this list was pretty much spot on, but id argue that russell should definitely be in best of the best considering his consistency throughout the season and being on par with lewis the way he was in his first year at Mercedes. i'd also argue for zhou to be in quality midfield drivers as he's had such terrible luck but when the car & team have been working well and he hasn't been crashed into by anyone, he's had a phenomenal season considering its his rookie season. I'm definitely torn between best of the best and borderline champion for norris and alonso however. before alpine, i'd have no doubt putting alonso in best of the best because of his adaptability in different motorsport disciplines, and when he consistently wringed the neck of those mclaren hondas and placing them way higher than people expected. but ocon has been very close with alonso through much of 2022 but a lot of that is to blame for alonso's horrible luck with reliability with the alpine this season, so maybe borderline champion will do for him for now; we will see how he fares at aston martin. as for lando, I think he definitely has the potential to be best of the best but its so hard to gauge his skill by comparing to a teammate in a similar car since sainz left mclaren, since ricciardo hasn't been performing like he should be and mclaren hasn't delivered a competitive car for 2022, but he has shown to consistently get the best out of the mclaren since 2020 especially 2021 onwards. having oscar piastri alongside him (assuming piastri delivers) and mclaren hopefully delivering on the chassis/aero side at least as good as 2021 should give us a much better idea of which tier he actually belongs in, so I guess it's acceptable for him to be in borderline champion for now but would be very surprised if he doesn't graduate to best of the best given the right circumstances.

Saying he might be able to beat Sainz, Russel or Norris is not a question to me. I don't think there is a driver in the grid capable of a performance such as the one he produced in Austin, that desire and ambition to go forward is unbeliabeable. I'm pretty sure that if he could have had a season not marked by realiability and the alpine team he would be best of the rest and if that if he was given the car to, he would be challenging Max for the tittle. Leclerc needs an ability of race awareness strategy-wise of other drivers and teams that I’ve seen others do like Carlos (obv), George, Max, and sometimes Lewis. Even if Leclerc had a strategy team that’s competent, I think a champion needs to have that ability unless your car just supersedes the rest then it won’t matter.
    I think Lewis is dependent on his team for that in the same way Leclerc is but he’s got experience under his belt that gives him an advantage.
    Had to learn the hard way to trust the team because a few times like last year when he didn’t come in when asked and waited a few laps, it cost him a win. This year he came in when told to when he didn’t want to like Brazil whereas last year a few times he defied the order because he thought he knew what he was doing. It’s almost opposite: Leclerc has too much faith in his team while Lewis didn’t and made decisions on his own. But I’ve seen Lewis be clever sometimes. I see what he’s doing right now for example and fair game.

    I appreciate the detail you put into sharing your thought processes. You justify your placements very well. A little bit of fanboy shows through for Charles and George. You describe their potential for their placement a lot more than others. And while I know you are a big Alonso fan, your words were similar to Lando about flashes of brilliance and given a better car etc. not on “potential”. The only change I would make is that I would put Charles in borderline champion still. Too many mistakes. Some are his, some are strategy/team. But he doesn’t speak up like Carlos does. Potential is there but he’s not best of the best quite yet. No doubt soon!

    Does Russell’s dream weekend at Interlagos maybe change perception of his season slightly for the better?

      He's proven that the early season consistency wasn't a fluke. He deserves to be ranked alongside Lewis, if not ahead. He is the only Mercedes driver with a pole and a win this season, and he will finish ahead in the driver's championship as well. Best of the best for sure, probably just behind Max.

    I think this tier list should have a "meh" tier, for drivers like Ocon, Gasly, Stroll, midfield drivers who aren't lacking performance to be put in "Something to prove" but aren't doing anything special or "of quality" during races. Forgettable races
    A tier for filler drivers, you might say, who are just filling spaces for the 20-car grid
