2015: My girlfriend and I cycled the Normandy Beaches. I was wearing my Maple Leaf Cycling Jersey . My girlfriend had a mechanical problem beyond my repair capacity. We rolled (downhill) into Caen, and found a bike shop. The mechanic dropped everything, and repaired my girlfriend’s bike. . . When I ashed “Combien?” (How much), the reply was “”Rien. Canadienne”. Nothing. You’re Canadian.
    The people remember.

My dad went through 11 campaigns Atlantic and Pacific and never would talk about the horrors of the war only the good side but when I entered the military he explained to me the other side of the war and to hear about this war from one that was there gives a whole new understanding and reason we were there and the very fact that WE were at the edge of losing this war but the ingenuity of the Yankees far out weighed the enemy and had the allies lost I shall not have been here or millions of others and may GOD bless AMERICA for WE shall not repeat history. ✝️ 🇺🇸 🇮🇱 AMEN

In this video like many others, also the movie Patton, credit is given to Eisenhower for not sacking Patton. The truth is the 2 people responsible for Patton not being sacked were FDR and Gen Marshall. Marshall had suggested to Eisenhower that as bad as some of Patton’s behaviors were he would be needed in the coming battles in France. Eisenhower was not stupid, when the US Army chief of staff makes a “suggestion” you listen.
Another fallacy in the movie Patton was the fairly good relationship Gen. Bradley had with Patton, the truth is the mediocre Bradley hated Patton and would have sent him back the the US even if it did hurt the war effort.

Both Bradley and Patton were mediocre. Patton's Lorraine campaign was the most costly allied failure of autumn 1944, even worse than the Hurtgen Forest. 52,000 combat casualties and objective not achieved.

Huh? Montgomery was the most successful Western Allied ground commander of WW2 by some way. He won more battles and took more ground through more countries while facing more quality German opposition than any other Western Allied ground commander in WW2.
The allies reached Brussels, Belgium ahead of schedule. Then Eisenhower arrogantly took over Montgomery's job of C-in-C of all allied ground forces in September 1944 and everything then went wrong, the allies barely moved anywhere for the next six months and the Americans ended up retreating in the Ardennes. Ironically, Eisenhower had to go running back to Montgomery for help.

Market Garden was the fastest allied advance against German opposition in the entire September 1944 to February 1945 period. Nearly 100km of German held ground taken in just 3 days.
Not Montgomery's fault that the air forces and airborne divisions messed it up.
Market Garden was nowhere near the failures that the Hurtgen Forest, Lorraine, Alsace and Operation Queen were that same autumn. That's before we even get to the retreat in the Ardennes.

      The buck stopped with Eisenhower.

Read some history books. This is an excellent video. When the US Army was sent into WW2, they were totally unprepared to face the modern mechanized army and airforce that Germany had at it's disposal. At the start of WW2, Germany had superior equipment, firepower, and tactics, but we eventually overwhelmed them with sheer numbers. For instance, they had less than 10,000 heavy tanks, but the United States built well over 30,000 Shermans. It's soldiers were as well trained and courageous as the allies, and they were better in fact than the other axis forces. Their purpose was dark, and their ruthlessness made them a very dangerous adversary, even late in the war. Watching YT videos is no substitute for a good education, and It's never too late to start.
