    We lived in a house in the country. There were mice and rats.
    We bought our first house (a 100 year old house). It also was prone to unwelcome guests.
    We dealt with it for about 6 years...then decided to get a cat. We've had a cat for over a year...and we haven't seen one, NOT ONE unwelcome guest.

    • @UpRoaryus
      @UpRoaryus 3 дні тому

      Yep. I used to say a dog was a necessity (security) but a cat was a luxury. That was until my cat passed away at 19 of kidney disease and he was so special to me I was not wanting to get another cat for a while. He had been a total badass though, judging by the HUGE roof rat he laid out for me across nearly whole width of my bedroom door frame once. It was so large I thought it must have been the dog but it was so perfectly displayed, un-mangled and not slobbered on, it had to have been the cat despite it being almost the same size! But even though he had barely been able to walk by the time he died, and surely not much of a hunter for at least a good year, it still took about 6 months after his death for the rats in the neighborhood to start having block parties at my house. I had enough when I heard them fighting on the stairs to the basement and when I opened the door to investigate, they didn't even run away but just stared at me like I was the one in THEIR house... Called the exterminator to deal with the bulk of the issue and seal up the ingress holes and the traps did their jobs, but I had to dispatch one with a hammer myself that got stuck on a glue board in the kitchen that was shrieking bloody murder so loud I was afraid it would awaken my boyfriend who is too soft on vermin to handle that. (We would actually rescue any mice off of the glue traps and release them away from the house rather than kill them, but I knew that rat was too much in a panic to help and just put it down before it could try and bite me. The dogs would just whine at them while the rats stole kibble out of their dish, and I decided at that point that a cat was also a necessity and visited the shelter to fill the new job vacancy. I have two now, and occasionally they will present me with gifts or leftovers to show off or compete. One clever rat managed to elude them by only appearing in the open when people were in the way which prompted a humane trap purchase from Amazon, but its only been used for that one.
      But evidence of any others I have seen in the last few years has only been what the kitties have left of their trophies now and then. My sweet one apparently likes to eat the heart out of his kills (GROSS.) like the one I found him munching on yesterday in the yard, but then he often barfs it up again since he pretty much just swallows and doesn't chew (GROSS. GROSS). So I try to discourage him from eating them while still expressing my appreciation for the kill and present. He got a big one last night, which was fresh enough to still be warm when I picked up the remains, after he had sampled an arm.. (GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!) But the cats are murderous little things that I am glad are on MY side and haven't needed to call for pest control again. And lovely to cuddle with when they are not murdering things.

    We live in a semi rural area of the UK. We live in an old cottage near to farmland, stables and rivers. We lived here for 17 years before we saw the first rat. They don't bother me as long as they aren't inside the house. We managed to deal with the outside problem by trapping them in a cage and relocating them, I can't say too much because I found out it's illegal to do that. It involved a trip to a local area where I was observed sitting in the car at a huge outside area with my husband whilst I put on my rubber gloves, the rat was in a cage trap in the boot. I can only assume what the other people thought was going on😲🤣. We remained rat free for a while until I started to hear scrabbling in a ground floor roof space. It started up at dusk and I thought it was a bird taking shelter. With the help of our neighbours we figured out it was a rat. We waited for the scrabbling to stop and we put some scrunched up wire into the access point. No more scrabbling. We know when they're around because the dog goes bonkers. No more in the house though! I still have the trap, just in case. The best bait is a big juicy prawn. I tried a piece of Cumberland sausage but it managed to get the sausage without setting the trap door off. It must have been a commando or a member of the SAS. We have removed our bird feeders as they do attract rats. We have real country mice living in a garden wall so we don't want to use poison.

    I live in Palm Beach County Florida and kept hearing rats in the walls. I kept telling myself the noise was lizards because they are so common here (lol, i wished). We bought the Victor brand electirc rat trap from home depot($80+). Placed it in the attic and garage and killed around 15 rats according to the app. It lures them, shocks them to death, and then notifies you. Cleaned the 2 car garage from a pretty clean storage room to a garage ONLY for cars and tools. No storage, it is trash and lures bugs and rats. Never heard a tap in the walls again.

    This is the best video on rat/mouse hunting I've ever seen... very entertaining! On another note, I blame homebuilders for not including rodent prevention in their building process. They should be plugging every hole around pipes, etc. with metal mesh and foam instead of leaving things open like this. Of course, the reason I'm watching this video is because I've got a mouse visiting my kitchen every night and leaving dropping on and around my stove even though I've cleaned it thoroughly and do so every day. I wish the twins were in my city so I could call them to figure out where the openings are!

    I just had an internship in a farm, they also produced seedlings. To produce them they had polystyrol bases to put soil and seeds. When those polystyrol bases are stored, especially the ones with large holes for bigger plants, rats decide do make galleries into the piles and nest there. They use cut leaves and polystyrol debris as materials. They go there because they need heat in winter and they probably feel better there, but also because that's a place near which the company owner stores stale bread for his ducks. So they also have free food. They prefer to stay close to the ground rather than making nests in the upper parts of the piles, but still...
    I don't wanna get the polystyrols that weren't destroyed alone, some of those rats are massive

Again it depends on how the person is interested in giving the student a good internship rather than just using him as free working hours.
      I had both experiences and honestly I find myself home in the horticulture section also because I had a good internship experience for several years, this farm also has seedling production, hence the styrofoam thing I described.

In biotech, its pretty much dna extracting and analysis/ maybe a little bit of gene editing, a whole lot of chemistry honestly, a little biology, some bioinfomatics, statistics, and tissue culture. I intend to learn gene editing and then proceed for a bachelors in bioengineering, followed by a masters in artificial intelligence, and ideally (fingers crossed), a phD in neuroengineering. Although, i do grow exotic hemp varieties indoors, utilizing high efficiency LEDs and hydroponics. Completely automated, profitable and perpetual setup. Thus, I have been heavily considering growing other veggies indoors for a farm to table approach to business (lettuce varieties, spinach, baby greens all take 1 month to grow). I had rats inside my place at the beach. It was the most unsettling feeling.
    I found where they were coming in and barricaded the room like it was a cheap production of Les Mis and slept on the couch (in was in the main bedroom).
    I could heard them scratching and gnawing at the door even after I would bang at it with a broomstick.
    I’m surprised I didn’t burn the whole place down.
    I felt like the whole place was invaded and dirty and even after completely getting rid of them. Covering the access points both inside and out, I’m still wary when I’ve been away for a while.
    It’s been almost a year.
    That feeling doesn’t leave.
    I wasn’t the only one in the neighborhood with a problem either, it was just a bad year for them coming inside to nest.
    Gross!
    Worth every penny to have someone who knows what they’re doing to take care of the problem! They had amazing tricks and knowledge. Plus big balls.

    when you open up the walls try making the cuts in the drywall at an angle. That way the piece you remove then can be reinstalled just using a coat of mud along the saw joints. By varying the thickness of the mud, you can get the removed piece flush with the wall.

    The best way to rid vermin is to invest in a fresh supply of rat x and decon. Twice a year to be on the safe side. The rat x goes into tray stations dispersed generously throughout garage's, utility rooms etc... and the decon used sparingly goes into pro bait stations. Its important to use at least 3 stations in a residential property. Always keep in mind that glue traps are also ideal and key bc fellow rats or mice will often stumble upon other distressed mice and avoid the habitat all together. Never use snap backs as they are not always efficient in a flawless kill. Do this and you will be free from rodents in as little as 2 weeks. Remember DECON is proven. Even when injested a fairly small amount certain death will usually occur within 24hrs.

    You guys got the goods. I just saw you on a Shawn woods video. You also uncovered some shoddy plumbing work there. You do know what that means.....that’s not all. There will be more, and into the other trades. On another note, doing that drywall repair, a hole is a hole. Your probably better off taking the whole wall out and replacing with one sheet of drywall. Gets the smell out and makes retexturing to match a breeze.

    • @tonymcfeisty2478
      @tonymcfeisty2478 Рік тому

      I had a similar experience, though not quite a nightmare it was an intermittent problem for about 5 years. When I bought the house we found evidence of previous infestations and suffered 3 over the next 5 years, each time with about a year between, Pest control companies could not find a definite entry point, only a couple of unlikely ones. They were pretty sure they were getting in via the drains but couldn't find where. so we fitted a rat gaurd in the service chamber, The Nordisk TXX11, Not had any problems since, (two years and counting).
      I recently discovered how they were getting in, and even the nest they had built when I ripped out the downstairs shower room. whichever idiot previously renovated this room decided it was a good idea to simply have the 40mm shower drain pipe dangling into an open 110mm floor socket, leaving a nice easy entry point. An adapter to do it properly is about £10, so peanuts really.
