Thank you for sharing! Wonderful method to give yourself the option to quickly connect and update/download a book while you're out and about, so you don't have to be that bothersome person to ask if you can borrow someone's WiFi, or risk getting infected from untrusted networks. Yes, you use some of your data bandwidth, and that could be a cost-factor. But you aren't intending to hang on to the connection all day, rather get on, get your content, then get off of it and get back to life. So this is wonderful!
Yes a huge benefit because when pairing with Bluetooth once you can just choose to connect from the Palma when ever you want. If you use the WiFi hotspot option instead you always need to wake up the iPhone and unlock it first. You don’t need that when using the Bluetooth option.
I just got my Palma yesterday, but I saw a number of broken Palma posts on reddits. Should I keep it or sell it now? People on reddits blame Boox quality control for their broken devices
I am not sure. Here in Sweden that is always free and you don’t need any plan for it. So it goes on my normal iPhone mobile plan. So if your carrier in your country need extra payment for internet hotspot then I guess you need that for this.
"I really need Boox Palma. I'm an Indian student; can you please help me? 🥺 I'm a student, and I genuinely need it, but I don't have the money to buy it. Please help, my brother."
This is what you do with any device without a sim card software. What many people want is to be able to actually substitute their regular smartphone for an e ink smartphone.
Yeah but that will never work. You will always need a real smartphone for bank stuff, photos and much more. So that is a utopia. This method is the best you can do for a daily driver e-reader. No need to fiddle with a smartphone for internet connection, just click connect in Bluetooth settings and your precious smartphone can still be in your bag or pocket. Works so great instead of an WiFi internet hotspot. So it’s not what most do. Most use internet hotspot
I don’t expect it to be working as a regular smartphone and that’s precisely what I like about it. I don’t want to be dependent on a device designed to be addictive. If it works good for calls, messages, emails (necessary for a normal life in society) prevents you from abusing audiovisual content and social media as it performs poorly on it, while also allowing you to somehow use any app, and to read much better… well, that is what I’m looking for. I think it is the perfect “dumb phone”, which is an increasing market. Why would it be a problem to have a sim card entry? You can still sell it as a small e reader with that extra option and have a unique device.
It’s true that the boox palma or any e reader is a great addition to your life, and could substitute many hours of smartphone usage and allow you to read much better, if this is all you want then of course hotspot is a great option
@andresn.2502 well it’s not a problem if it has a SIM card but if you own a better device than hibreak like the onyx Boox Palma that doesn’t have a SIM card option, then this option is good enough. To have a perfect reading user experience on the go.
For some reason, my Palma does not stay connected to my iPhone for more than a fraction of a second. Tried unpairing and repairing but no success. Do you have any idea what might cause this? Airpods stay connected just fine, so BT works.
Have you turn on internet sharing in the Bluetooth settings on the Palma as I show in the video? And have added at least 5 min or more that the connection should stay on in the settings on the Palma as I show in the video?
@@svartling Yes to both. It connects then immediately disconnects again. As soon as I try to turn on internet sharing, the switch goes back to 'off' because the connection is lost. A mystery!
Then it is probably your carrier in your country that doesn’t allow internet sharing without a plan for it. Here in Sweden that is allowed and is free.

Yes it’s very convenient
Great sharing. And It is necessary to enable the Internet via bluetooth of hotspot on the Android phone.
Great tips, is there any advantages to connect via bluetooth instead of using tethering from your iphone and connect via wifi from the palma device?

It’s my most used device. So I will never sell it. And mine is still as new. No problem what so ever
Interesting. Does this method (Internet over Bluetooth) works for the other Boox devices?
Say:
"Go 10.3" --- Bluetooth ---> Iphone 12 ---> internet
Probably. I don’t have those devices but I can’t see why it wouldn’t
Do you need to have a hotspot service added to your plan through your mobile carrier or can this be used like any other Bluetooth device?
I am not sure. Here in Sweden that is always free and you don’t need any plan for it. So it goes on my normal iPhone mobile plan. So if your carrier in your country need extra payment for internet hotspot then I guess you need that for this.
Connects fine with ny Samsung S24.
Great

@andresn.2502 exactly. If I need to call someone or message someone I use my Apple Watch Ultra or my phone that is probably near by anyways.
Connected but unable internet access. However i figures it out : Turn On Bluetooth Tethering.
Have you edited the Bluetooth settings for the phone on your onyx Boox Palma? You need to allow internet sharing on the settings there.
For some reason, my Palma does not stay connected to my iPhone for more than a fraction of a second. Tried unpairing and repairing but no success. Do you have any idea what might cause this? Airpods stay connected just fine, so BT works.
Same here.

You can also try to turn off maximize compatibility in internet sharing settings on your iPhone
Anybody tried on samsung this? Can be confirmed that works on android?
Samsung doesn’t make e-readers but I guess the same would work on all Android based devices with Bluetooth function
So the only difference of using the Wi-Fi hotspot is the better battery life?

@@svartling Ok!
@porvoonosho it's so easy to do. A real joy to have internet when you need it without to have to fiddle with the phone to connect
