That was very emotional. Right to the heart. For those of us who are closer to the exit, the lyrics of this take on a very deep meaning, which they always had in the first place. It's just that age gives you the benefit of perspective. You look back at all those turns, turns, turns, on the road of your life, and you cannot help but nod your head in agreement and dry your tears as it all sinks in.

I saw Roger McGuinn perform on a triple bill around 1986 in Augusta Maine. He was great, Alvin Lee from Ten Years After was great, and John Kay's Steppenwolf stunk up the place.

I sure do miss Seeger. We need musicians like him TODAY. Years ago when our country was threatened from within, the musical artists sang about it...I truly feel that we need that right now.

Why is no comment here for this ? McGuinn seems to be loved by old people there appreciating the song he had made popular, although he's not the composer of the original version which goes to Pete Seeger.

Yeah, I got a little weepy, too. Thank you! Roger, I gotta ask you: have you heard of KILLOOLEET? Probably not, but It's an amazing folk music camp for kids in Vermont started by Pete's half-brother John Seeger back in, oh '44 I think. Arlo went there, ask him. So did I, a couple of years later. And Pete used to stop in there all the time and play banjo ("Little Black Flies", "The Cat Came Back" &c.) at the weekly bonfire down by the lake. It's the same now as it was back then, run by John's kids now, and they could use some help. Look em up, Killooleet, and call em; I'm sure if nothing else they'd be real glad to hear from you!

My name is Patricia Batson and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I wanted to reach out a personal message to Roger and say how much one of his songs saved my life, literally, and helped me through my most recent battle with cancer.
On December 1st, 2016, I was rushed to the emergency room. While the doctors and medical team were in the operating room trying to save my life, I had accepted my fate that today I would probably be going home to God. I had great peace. I was in an altered state of mind, partially aware of conversations and my surroundings, and the rest of the time I was in another hallucinating dream world where I was communicating with my late mom Elaine, Jesus and even having a conversation with Glenn Frey, who had recently passed away.
I was looking at my husband Robert through the door and saw him frantic and emotional, pacing back and forth, looking helpless at me and I had said goodbye and that I loved him. I also said goodbye and called upon, spiritually speaking, a very special friend of mine, TJ Lubinsky, who I knew was there with me that night, and I told him how much I loved him and also said my goodbyes.
As I heard the OR doctor say "we are losing her..." I was literally between life and death. Suddenly, I heard The Byrds song "Turn Turn Turn." As I lie there dying, I was calm, hearing my beloved music, thinking about my loved ones and ready to accept that I was about to pass away or survive. As I kept slipping in and out of consciousness, I heard the song again and again. I just assumed it was part of my hallucination.
Anyway, a couple hours later, the doctors were able to save me and I woke up in the recovery room to look at Robert's handsome, smiling face with tears pouring down. As I shared with him some of what I remember from that crisis, I asked him about the song Turn Turn Turn. I told him how it had helped me to find peace, and to spiritually connect with God and everyone I loved in heaven and earth. However, I was shocked when he told me, as did the nurse who was attending to me, that I was not imagining it, that song actually played during that critical hour of my life, for some reason, three or four times in a row. Neither Robert, nor the nurse knew exactly why or where it was coming from, but someone in that hospital had that song on and it was heard by all of us. It was one of the most profound and beautiful moments of my life.
Fast forward to a couple months ago, when I was diagnosed with cancer. My Facebook family and friends who knew my testimony from a few years earlier, said that they would all be playing and sharing that very special song from The Byrds, everyday, until I was well again.
I am happy to say, that last week, after my cancer surgery and the biopsy results, my surgeon declared me cancer free!! To celebrate, my friend TJ Lubinsky, on his live radio show, joined my friends in celebrating the great news and he played several songs for me and everyone in his studio danced and we all rejoiced and praised God, and yes, TJ once again played me my beloved song, and I just broke down in tears of gratitude and relief.
The week before my cancer surgery, I played Roger Mcquinn's video from one of TJ's PBS programs, because his version on that show is incredibly important to me as it not only combines my love for TJ, but Roger's sweet, beautiful performance moved me deeply and will forever be in my soul.
Whenever I tell the story to people, they fall more in love with that song and they themselves are encouraged to know how powerful music can be to heal our broken souls and even give us inspiration to live.
Finally, I only recently found out that Roger was born and raised in Chicago, and he celebrated a birthday 2 days before my surgery, so I feel a special connection and respect, and I just wanted to say thank you to Mr. McGuinn, for being an important part of my life.. I want to thank him for his beautiful heart, his music, and the joy he brings to me and millions of other people in this world.
It is my wish that you please share this email with him.
Thank you very much for your time and for allowing me to share my story with you today.
      Blessings to you, Patty 💜
