      Just wondering fava beans tofu has only fava beans in it. But from a muscle building perspective I feel it’s inadequate as just fava beans don’t suffice from complete amino acid profile as they are low with methionine.

    This weather kills me too! I suffer from really crippling seasonal depression. Upping my vitamin D in the winter months has helped, and I do my best to stay active instead of just sitting in a hot bath or hiding under a blanket. I workout (lift and/or higher intensity cardio) in the morning and every evening I hop on my spin bike or treadmill for a good 30-50 minutes.

    I love all your content ❤️ My husband introduced me. I couldn't help notice that calcium was 47% of the RDA and sodium nearly 3000mg. If I'm not mistaken WHO recommends 1500mg as an upper limit. Personally I find calcium a challenging target to hit unless tofu, lots of dark leafy greens and fortified milk is included. Would love to see a video that focuses on hitting calcium RDA targets on a plant based diet, with low sodium because the kidneys excretes precious calcium stores to get rid of excess sodium, so it is a double whammy for the body. Your content is engaging and entertaining as always. From two fans in South Africa ❤

    • @erikfast9764
      @erikfast9764 27 днів тому +1

      From what I have read, the calcium RDA is higher than it should be. Michael Greger recommends 600 mg per day which is achievable with dark green leafies, beans, nuts, and seeds (including tahini).

    I've been vegan for eons but am freshly obsessed with cramming in protein to see if it'll fix a couple of issues. I'm very small but shoving down about 110-112 grams a day on average now and THAT'S hard. I'm not a volume eater so I do have to use a lot of protein supplements.

      That is almost as much as I take in over a day as male that lifts weights 6 days per week. Pretty close build to Simnett, just a little taller but we weight almost the same.
      Let you are a serious athlete that is a lot of protein for a female. I believe the optimum where you don't really see any more benefit from is is 1.6g per kg. I would also use your targeted bodyweight and not actual if you are trying to lose fat or if one is already slender and trying to add a couple kg of muscle, then bump the protein up by 1.6g per kg muscle mass you want.

    • @Atheria444
      @Atheria444 Місяць тому

      @@mjs28s But I'm a huge 87-88 lbs. and hyperactive! Yes...I'm really that small. :-) I'm probably overdoing it. I'm looking up protein info right now. I just saw an interesting short video on Plant Based Science London about how vegans DO need more than the often touted 0.8 grams per kilogram of weight during times of stress, illness, and wound healing. I also saw this elsewhere, "Nutritional Guidelines suggest a daily intake of 1.6 and 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram, or .73 and 1 grams per pound to lose weight. Athletes and heavy exercisers should consume 2.2-3.4 grams of protein per kilogram (1-1.5 grams per pound) if aiming for weight loss." So, even at the 2.2 grams level, I'm going overboard with my intake. Today will be 117 grams of protein...not including some extra stuff like what's in veggies, grains, etc.

    7:52 leftover starchy carbs like pasta, potatoes, when they're refrigerated and then reheated creates resistant starch, which is haute-cuisine for your good bacteria in your intestines.

    "Eating only plants" - I don't eat animal products, but I do eat fungi in addition to plants. Fungi - mushrooms and the mycelium in tempeh - are tasty, and Derek Sarno has shown how a grilled large mushroom (using his technique with two cast-iron skillets) can be very like a steak. The important thing is that fungi are the primary source of the protein ergothioneine, which is extremely beneficial.

    Hey Derek 1 more question, if you have a propensity for kidney stones, are you allowed to drink whey protein pownder and creatine.

    • @Simnettnutrition
      @Simnettnutrition  27 днів тому

      Excess protein can increase likelihood of kidney stones but no link is there with creatine. If kidney function is compromised creatine should be avoided or used with monitoring from a health professional. 👊

    Looks great but does the app calculate proteins that the body can't build muscle out of? Like protein in white rice?

    • @erikfast9764
      @erikfast9764 27 днів тому

      The body builds muscle out of amino acids. It doesn't discriminate between proteins from different foods.

    OMG, I have got to find those kalettes (why are they not called brussale krouts or something). I am a huge brussel sprout fan, so these would be a top pick for me. 😜😝
    Have you tried the dried brussel sprouts (like potato chip style) from WalMart? OMG, I had them once and ate the whole container! They were way better than all other chips! 💯
    Anyway, I wish you would do a food seminar in the US that people could come to. After meeting my fave Canadian band a few weeks ago (☆☆☆☆☆Autumn Kings☆☆☆☆☆), I can verify that Canadian men are hundreds of times nicer than American men! 😉😆
