    Hi Rory, Hello from Denmark.
I bought myself a Q8 e-tron 55, precisely for the reason that it gives a natural premium feeling, in my opinion, drives, and handles way better than the other luxury SUVs, and in addition looks a lot better than the rest of the SUVs. And now with the new massive battery, it gives me a range that is more than fine. And an underwhelming, understated car without Netflix, browsers, and games is in my modest Scandinavian vocabulary something pretty good😉.

    • @rv2167
      @rv2167 Рік тому +3

I agree. Canadian here. I don't find the range here such an issue since I can charge about 100km a night at home and I have a supercharger a few blocks from me.
It's a dream to drive and the ability to raise/lower the suspension for when conditions get bad is a real luxury.

And nothing in between or beyond. Today's X5 50e gives you over 100km of range on electric, and then has a 6-cylinder petrol engine that consumes around 8 litres only. What's not to like? The Urus is in a completely different league when it comes to status, which is the main reason why people buy it. So no, if you are in the market for an Urus, you would 100% not consider buying a Q8. I have a 2019 etron tecknik. It is almost perfect save for its range and sheer impossibility to get any body work fixed. I was in a minor accident that took over 6 months to fix. Other than that it has the best interior of any car I've ever been in, the size is great, it drives like a dream and I mostly do city driving of 40-50km a day so I only really need to charge it every 2nd or 3rd day with a pretty weak level 2 charger in my garage. I bought it used for less than a new Model y would cost. I think from a value perspective it is hard to beat Tesla now that they lowered prices, but as a used car this vehicle was an excellent deal and I love it.

I have an early etron 55 and the paddles allow different levels of regen. The brake pedal also uses the motors and regen and you can see this in the indicator on the left, regen meter. The best thing about the old etron is charging speed, only 150kw but a flat charging curve, mine charges at 90kw even at 95% SOC.

  • @robertninic5555

Personally, I love *not* having "one-pedal driving". The 2-step paddle breaking (soft and hard braking) is (according to me) an excellent way to manage the braking, essentially fulfilling "one-pedal driving" anyway.
Additionally, the car breaks by itself when coming to i.e. roundabouts (navigation-based braking), so "no-pedal driving" in that case. Using the paddles to break also creates very smooth braking, especially when turning.

Basically where we live, rural Canada, the drive at night is long and empty roads and I really don't want light reflection from the rear since there is no lane change really. Light pollution is a problem driving at night anyway so anything to reduce the glare is a good idea in my mind. The cameras can be turned on if you need to see out the side view anyway. But if you can't switch them off then I'd be less interested. Driving in an urban area yeah I think it would probably be annoying to have to deal with but on rural roads at night it might actually be a useful feature.

There are a whole host of electric cars that are better and cheaper than this one. The Tesla Y is lighter, nimbler, faster, cheaper, has more range, a supercharger network and the quality is excellent. The Hyundai ionics and Ford Mach-e are pretty darn good. If you are stuck on expensive German SUVs, then Mercedes EQB or EQS are excellent, if expensive.

The middle rear seat did not appear a welcoming place to be. For a £100k, i would be looking for bells, whistles and the rest. (No EV should feel slow off the line, given the torque advantage of all electric vehicles.) What is the VAG hangup about one-pedal driving? Upgrade the software, make it a menu option and let drivers decide.

A well made comfortable premium car. But the somewhat limited range despite having rather big batteries means it fails spectacularly at power efficiency.
And I don't wanna imagine trying to take this one on a longer drive in winter.
Also not having at least the option for one pedal driving is stupid.
Last but not least those camera "mirrors" are just bad.
In short, I agree with Rory's verdict.
This car is your choice if you are less interested in efficiency and place more value on having a big premium car.
Aka managers - little modesty and more money than common sense.

Some people prefer the more modern systems like in the mercedes, but I think all that is to much and it is a bit hard to use, at least I felt that when I drove one. Not only that buit it looks like a footballers car that is just a show off car that looks like a disco on the inside. I prefer the super easy to use system on the audi, and it doesnt look like it shows off. We are buying cars, not computers at the end of the day
