Hi, I’m a woman in her 20s and I’m training to become a U.S. Navy SEAL.
What advice would you give for women that want to be SEALs? If you had to go to BUD/S again, how would you prepare differently? What books or workout programs would you recommend?
Most female SEAL candidates struggle with carrying the boats and logs, doing pull ups, having grip strength and completing the “Dirty Name” on the obstacle course. Also, a lot of female SEAL candidates break their legs or develop stress fractures.
A woman made it to day 4 of BUD/S first phase recently but she quit that day. That’s the farthest a woman has made it. Her BUD/S classmates told me that her class hated her and ran her out from under the boat because she was a boat ducker. Nine women have entered the SEAL pipeline since 2016.

It's amazing and they deserve credit for their superior skills in the water and in maritime interdiction. But most of what is portrayed in this SEAL screening is not much different than what infantryman of the 80s and 90s were doing at basic training or infantry school. Not sure if that is true today but it was in my era.

@GhostRanger5060 I really actually enjoyed the recruiting....
The way they prep candidates now. For a spec, warfare path is a joke though.
There are more civilian boot camps out there that try to tell you. They can get you up to standards before you even touch buds.
In my humble opinion, those who make it are desperate and have nothing else to fall back on...
We are typically not quitters. We are typically people who played team sports in school we. Typically came from, not perfect households. Et. C.
I have spent a lot of time post retirement building out a Profile on what the modern day seal looks like.
It's a lot different than when I was on the teams...
I was stubborn and had a father who was a intelligence officer that I always looked up to and I did a lot of it to make him impressed with my accomplishments.
In Retrospect, that was the wrong motivation, but I accomplished my goal, Nonetheless.
I became a ups driver in my civilian years and am largely retired now.... and keep up with my fitness and train younger men locally who want to go in the military of all branches....for free.
I don't believe in taking money to turn out good future men, who want to serve our nation.
I will not train a female though.... Too risky, especially if you ever had to touch them.
Anyway, sorry if a lot of this is long and gramatically not well done.
I can't even exactly remember your specific question!
But feel free to ask me anything.
The training is much different. I wouldn't say it's easier.
I was in Coronado, less than a year ago and walked the beach ....and spoke with instructors that are very competent men. And turn out good operators. Many that are better than ones when I served... They are more varied in their skill set.
The ones I worry about are the ones that are being pushed through for optics.... Certain skin colors and such.... And God forbid if a woman, got pushed through.
It would compromise team, safety, integrity and mission.
All the best from salty sailor washington state

"Fair" meant if a patrol failed the female leaders still got a go (for "trying") and the male leaders still got a no-go.
