Having graduated from Navy Boot Camp in 1986, the Recruit Division Commanders of today were known as Company Commanders then. In those days, if they asked you something, you would reply, "Yes Sir!" or "No Sir!" It seems that today, you would respond, "Yes Petty Officer!", " No Petty Officer!", or "Yes Chief!", or "No Chief!", depending on their rank. It is probably safe to assume that most, if not all if the RDC's who are training recruits now, were probably not even born yet, when I went through Boot Camp, while most of the CC's who trained recruits when I went through, are now retired, and maybe others are no longer with us. I sometimes wonder if anybody I went through Boot Camp with could have become a CC, or RDC, or even a Navy Recruiter.
Yeah , they were CC's back then. I never heard of an RDC until recently. And they were addressed as sir, never by rank. It didn't matter if they were a chief or a first class - always sir. 1985, company 196 ( color company, by the way - I wonder if they still do that ) ?
Paul Hoffman, I went through Boot Camp in 1986, Company 359, my company graduated with honors. Remember Service Week, the thing they had halfway through? I don't seem to see that in any current video. I wonder if they still have that. The final PT text was the 2 1/4 mile run in 18 minutes in 1986. Now it's only 1 1/2 miles? Seems as if they backed off on the PT a bit.
@@johnoconnor6356 Hello, John. I don't really remember the PT end of RTC, but I do indeed remember service week. I was assigned to the bakery in the galley, working overnight. Back in 1986, when I went through boot camp, after the last man in your company sat down, he barely had time to start eating, they would yell, "ALL RIGHT! WE HAVE OTHER THINGS TO DO, BESIDES NAVY CHOW!!!!"
I went through in the summer of 1985. There was one central chow hall ( Grisholm hall, if memory serves ) for all of RTC at that time. I recall my company ( 196 ) being marched to chow. Recruits stacked their rifles outside in a specific way before entering as you formed up outside. Once inside, there were constant shouts of " Nut to butt " ! , and " Keep your hands off of the brightwork " ! The chow line footage in this video is much different from my experience as a recruit. Also, there was no such thing as the MarlinSpike and a battlestations event, and there were no racks that opened up - just ordinary rows of bunks in the barracks ( we didn't call the barracks a ' ship '. They were just called the barracks ). After RTC, I went to A school up the street to NTC and went to the fleet as a Boiler Tech. I spent 3.5 years on the Kennedy, out of glorious Norfolk, VA ( I hated being in Norfolk stateside, or Portsmouth when we were in the yards, for that matter - it was a deciding factor for me when reenlistment came up. Might be seeing you there? I ship out sep 4th
I was disappointed with my bootcamp experience. We had great RDCS man but the whole system got dialed down bigtime, We got overweight people making it thru with bike chits i mean what the actual fck i thought this was supposed to be hard the accomplishment didnt feel as big i wanted the experience my family in other branches got before me
Do you think even with asthma I'll make it through than? I've received waivers but am worried.
Same I'm in A school rn and my family did not believe me that overweight ppl were just given bike chits just to pass boot camp.
When you can't hit your recruiting numbers, you let anyone in.
@@FrostyDragn just give it your all and treat it like life or death and you wanna live bro
@@FrostyDragnIt really depends on the severity of your medical problem. Consult with your doctor and check the academy's medical/physical requirements
May 23!!!
That's Academy or something I don't think Navy and Marines are combined anywhere else
Nah that’s def RTC
Those are NROTC for colleges. Academy candidates go through prepatory school in rhode island right before going to maryland or annapolis as they call it to start school.
Why were some of these recruits in Green on Green/Cammies? I thought they only wore if they go green side
Do we still have to wear mask once we get there? Shipping out for bootcamp on August 28th!
Why would you wear a mask if covid is long gone?
If they are wearing 8 points, most likely they are rotc midshipmen or PLC student.
I love to see this......
I just passed my asvab test I’m excited. Who here doesn’t mind me using them to rank up. I’m more than willing to do the same for you
Wdym?
Congratulations dude, I’m doing MEPS Monday so it’s crazy right now things moving so fast
Crongrats, when do you ship? Have you picked a rate?
@@AntsHoney put me down brother for a recruit brother so u can rank up
@@Savior_411 LS (E1) I’m trying to get 2 ppl signed up so I can go in ranked to at least (E2)
Talk about how you guys preform unauthorized isolation in ship 5.. no? I’m the only one who was In there for 3 months with crazy ass people forced to stay with an injury? Real ones know only way out when you’re stuck with an injury is to 711. Stay strong boys and girls.
Id join the mitary in a heartbeat, if i didnt drop out of highschool also im very bad at math i dont even know my times tables or division in my head really.
Why are the Marines assisting in Navy basic training? Don't we have competent RDCs that can do the job?
why are marines training them?
Are the Marines Integrated training at Great Lakes? I went in 2019 and did not see marines in training.
Why are they faffing around with their rifles at the end??
Do they still sing 'Anchors Aweigh' in the tunnel going from RTC to Mainside?
Yea 😂

I ship July 23rd anyone else in the time frame ?
I'm in the video at 6:40
dose the navy still use the blue digital or is this old
They phased out the type 1s right after i graduated boot camp in 2019 but i was issued the new camo type 3s. This is probably archived footage right before introducing the new camos.
Joining soon after cleaning myself
Any tips on what to use makes faster lol
The uniforms much better then the mid 90s! We had to wear the dungarees! They actually look legit now !
@@justinb6379 the dungarees were so comfortable.
i’m 29 and i have been very interested in joining the navy. since i was a kid, i’ve always wanted to get into some type of workforce like either the swat team or military but so many things in life has gotten in my way.. but i have no excuses. i also dont have a high school diploma and i’ve heard the navy recently lifted that requirement. what would this look like for me going in at 29 without a diploma?
Ive never seen so much seamen
Ship out August 28 🫡🫡🫡
Brotha I ship out in July can I use ur name as a recruit to rank up. N if u want you can use me as well
I wonder why they're not yelling at them.
Aww this takes me back

When you see the “red card” better take a deep breath and “ 30 seconds to hydrate “
Bout to get smoked!
I can still hear my RDC’s voice
why do they have marine corps drill instructors?
Wtf, i ain’t signing if i have a marine DI😂😂😓
@@jamiezoe7663 same tf😅
Y'all weak 😂
Well, the navy does own the marine corps, the marines where originally navys form infantry. Till this day they work extremely closely with each other marines use navy corpsman
@@jamiezoe7663 sign national guard or cost guard
Looks like scout camp.
yeah this isn’t boot camp for sailors. It’s officer training. OCS
