    Wow thank you for your possitive review. Have waited for mine and played with them first time today. I know I wanted a raquet with low flex. But wow my backhand is back and how I like this thin beam! Even tho its 3 grams heavier then my Babolats strung it feels so much easier to swing. With strings and overgrip my 97 HDs weighs 340 gram. Was expecting a much heavier feel.Its really maneuverable. I strung it with 1.20mm polyester at 22kg. Thx again you helped me choosing raquet and my tennis felt really good today!

  • @nostro1001

    Excellent review Jonas. Stay with the racquet a bit longer to give your backhand side a chance to make whatever small adjustments are necessary. I'm guessing it must have to do with the thinner beam. Perhaps it plays a bit faster than some of the other sticks you've been using recently?
    I can't imagine there'd be any other reason.
    Personally, I don't think the racquet plays as 'old school', as the specs would have one think. It's certainly not a flexy frame despite the low RA (plays a bit firmer for sure). And, it's actually a fair bit more powerful than you'd assume also.
    Is it a so called 'modem players frame'? No. However, it's far from a walk down memory lane either. I think it's more a pro stock frame, with some room for customisation for those who feel it's a tad light as is. It definitely doesn't get pushed around in stock, some though may prefer a higher swing weight.
    I have been moving the other way, reducing my swing weight and tension to help the tendon in my shoulder. Actually, I felt almost zero pain serving on the weekend, a first for some time.
    Enjoy the tennis!!! 😃

    I hit with this racket and liked it quite a bit! With polyester string I got a lot of control and spin, but not a lot of power. I used the heavier one too and I kind of liked it, but it seemed like I got a little bit better feel with the middle weight Hd frame. I used to like the heavier rackets but this one seemed to be good for me, I may get a couple of them. I love Wilson pro staff and the clash too, but I really have good control with this yonex. I like the blue yonex better than the green but I haven’t hit with it yet.

    Nice review, as usual Jonas. I quite like the specs of that frame, especially the static weight at 320g. I sometimes wish that my Prince Phantom 93P was at that weight rather than 330g, which is challenging in a long singles game. Also, you've done a nice work on your forehand. You definitely go through the ball a lot better than you used to, the weight transfer to your front leg is much improved.

    My first time using Yonex racquets coming from years of Babolat. I ended up switching to this racquet as I fell in love with it! You are right about the first play test. I didn't love it at first but that might also be because I haven't used an 18x20 racquet in a long time. My second day of play felt amazing. The feel of this racquet is just so good. I found myself moving more and more towards players frames and this is basically a perfect frame in terms of my preferred specs. It feels so good and welcoming for such an advanced racquet, as you mentioned with the feel, power and spin. Loving the switch to this, especially with a good string.

    I am using the VCore Duel G 97. I use PolyTour Fire 130 at 65lbs tension on both crosses and Mains. I used 15grams of tungsten weight tape on the head for a total of 351grams total strung weight. The new has two additional rows of strings on the mains, and the same amount on the crosses so I would be VERY interested on giving it a try IF I can String it to 65 pounds of Tension and maintain warranty. I will stay with PolyTour Fire as it is an extremely slippery string.

    Hi, loved the review! How would you compare this to the blade v7 18.20 and pure strike 18.20 3rd gen,
    2 years ago, I switched from a steam 99 and pro kennex FC's destiny racket to a pure aero as I love brushing the ball, but the pure aero in during the past 2 years had been extremely inconsistent for me, the ball goes long most of the time, if I brush it goes really short, from the past 3 weeks I've been playing with 2012 pro staff six one 90 blx and the classic prostaff 6.1, these rackets are 360 and 380 grams strung respectively, I love the heavy stable feel and plow through of these old prostaffs but I need something lighter to swing during matches so the vcore pro 97 HD at 342gstrung weight seems to be the best for me. Advice would be really appreciated since I do not have a demo option here.
    Thank you very much.

    Good review, thanks! Been using this frame for a few weeks now. Works really well for me, in fact I love it. The only shot I am struggling with is the backhand slice. For some reason, the racquet suddenly feels heavy and cumbersome. Perhaps some bad chemistry between my technique and the balance of the racquet. Otherwise it feels fast and powerful enough. Love it a bunch on returns, especially!

      Hey Pal....I'm using mine now. Started with poly tour strike @50lbs, which I enjoyed, but thought perhaps it was a bit firm (either the string or being 50lbs....always hard to tell with a new stick).
      Anyway, I've since strung it with Ice Code & 48lbs. Much happier now! I've never used IceCode before, so can't overly comment if it's the string/racquet combo or the slight tension drop.
      I've not hit with it a lot (yet), with the new restring. However, I did play on Sunday and as much as I loved it, I found my second serve struggling some. I just wasn't getting my usual amount of kick and the ball was landing a bit long.
      Again, hard to know if it's the string, not generating the same spin as my other typical string choices (alu power rough/poly tour strike) or the drop in tension just added that extra power I wasn't used to.
      However, I do love this stick. There's always a small transition moving from one racquet to, another, along with changing strings and tension.
      Cheers!

      @@nostro1001 Great to hear you are liking the stick, as well! I have a similar experience with second serves. On off days I have less racquet head speed on that serve, so the result is somewhat erratic.
      Also, I have less spin since the strings have started to cut into another. But that's not the sticks fault.

    is it very much different going to a 18x20 from a 16x19? I've been using the dr98 for the past few years, but am looking for a little more plow through. i think the extra 10g is just perfect but how much spin and power will i lose going to this denser string pattern? would it negate the power effects of going up in weight?

    • @transamination
      @transamination 3 роки тому +1

      The extra 10g is really easy to manage no problem. What you may find (as I did) is that the first few sessions you play with 18x20 you might hit groundstrokes in to the net occasionally where you wouldn't at all with 16x19. Quite quickly this stops happening. Benefit of 18x20 for me was it helps to keep slices really low.
      This racquet I found to need a little bit of weight added at 11oclock and 1oclock to increase the swing-weight a bit. I added literally just 1g lead at 11 and 1g and 1 and that made it perfect.

    Jonas, I watch a lot of your videos, and this racket seems to produce a much higher, loopier ball path on your forehand than I'm used to seeing. I saw a lot of balls landing within 1-2 feet of the baseline (both in and out), a deeper ball than usual. Did you feel like the launch angle was high? Your forehand is more topspinny than your backhand naturally, but this was quite a difference by my eye!

    • @MMm-kp7lk
      @MMm-kp7lk 3 роки тому

      the extra topspin may have had to do with the fact he was playing indoors with zero elements. People forget that playing indoors is "pure" power tennis the ball flies a lot faster with a lot more spin because there are zero elements affecting the shots. Sometimes as well the thinner beam rackets fly through the air faster allowing for more racket head speed and thus more spin. just my .02

      It is not as good of a racquet I think. If you're going to pound right through the ball, maybe the Yonex. But the head feels like a much more versatile and feel based racquet. I feel it has more spin, control, feel, stability. A lot of very important traits that add up to a much more agreeable racquet. I really felt the only strength the Yonex had was for very high powered plow-through shots.
      As with all Yonex frames I try, they always feel somewhat unstable. Like any slightly off center shot wanted to twist the racquet out of your grip a bit. Or that the racquet would torque/flop a bit on contact. I have friends with ATP points who actually say the same exact thing about stability with yonex and we brought that up not knowing of each other's opinion. And tennis nerd has said in reviews about some yonex frame feeling less stable than it should. I think it's a yonex thing.

    would it be a mistake to upgrade to this from the DR98? I'm looking for more plow-through, not necessarily find the DR98 lacking in feel. Hopefully, my experience is only mine, especially because it's so difficult being new and trying to get traction in a market dominated by the big 3 or 4.
      I've been in the game long enough to see many companies come and go, rise and fall, including those that had larger overarching businesses, such as being able to sell skis, but have gone.

    Great review! This looks and sounds like a great racquet i love the low flex rating thin beam and weight specs and i'd like to add an 18 x 20 racquet to my collection! My only issue is that i just wonder about the isometric head shape on Yonex racquets i just don't like the look of them, do they play radically different to standard racquet heads? and is it true their grip sizes are slightly larger than other racquets?

    • @nostro1001
      @nostro1001 4 роки тому +1

      @ Jo....I find their head shape no issue at all. In fact, not even noticeable and feels very natural. Then again, by contrast, I never feel comfortable with a really rounded head...something like the older head extremes or current prince beasts (never tried).
      In so far as their grips go, that's the first I've heard that they run somewhat large. I'm not doubting you as I've never actually measured, however they've never felt that way, nor has anybody else (that I know), mentioned it.
      Give Yonex a demo and see what you think. I have zero transition issues due to the head shape (like just now moving to this frame), it's just not noticeable at all to me.
      Happy hitting!!

    For anyone considering the 320gm HD vs the 310gm standard racquet: I bought the 310gm month ago and immediately identified often mentioned stability issues , so ended up adding 4 gm weight tape, (2gm either side at 10 and 2)and it has definitely helped. However, how having a 314gm racquet, I may as well have bought the 320 to begin with...l regret not buying the 320 HD, even though the 310 was a major upgrade on my old racquet and is the envy of my tennis coach! My reason for buying the 310 was I have a one-handed backhand and have been working hard on my consistency, so I really wanted that maneuverability, however adding 4gm specifically on the loop has affected that maneuverability on my backhand, so it's better to have more weight, 320gm, being distributed naturally by Yonex themselves rather than having the tape. Yonex should have made the 310gm as either a 315gm with the same balance, or ditch the 310gm and offer a 320gm with either 16 x 19 or 18 x 20 variant string pattern....simplicity, consistency and comparability in these racquet ranges is highly advised (in anyone from Yonex reads this!). So, 310gm is very good, but I suspect the 320gm is great even though I haven't demoed it.

      I have the HD, and I found it lacked weight near the tip and lacked swing-weight, so I ended up adding 1g lead at 11 and 1g at 1. I'm very tempted to get a 310 and try your customisation. Either 2 or 2.5g at 11 and 1. I think this might be just as good or even better than the HD.

    • @Crispy99999
      @Crispy99999 3 роки тому

      @@transamination I also eventually added some at 12, so I added 8gm all up I think. However, it started getting almost even balanced, so the whole thing started getting out of control. I've developed a golden rule now: if you have to add more than 5g to a racquet, you've got the wrong racquet. Simple as that. I do wish you all the best with the 320HD... that's a little strange to hear, but I never demoed it, so I have to accept your thoughts. Reviews of the 310gm said that it is a good racquet to customise....but that's not my preference now. Ultimately, I've ended up replacing the Vcore Pro 310 with a Babolat Pure Strike Tour...meaty 320gm and 315 balance!! It's a bit of a handful so needs some getting used to, but I like the ability to return heavy serves and get shots back on the run. I liked Jona's review of it, and as a flat hitting baseliner wasn't concerned about lack of touch or feel. A very close second was the Head Radical Pro 315gm and 315mm balance and #3 on the list was the Ezone Tour....HOWEVER, if I had my time again, I'd probably get the Head Radical Pro... ;) there you go! :p craziness

    I'm going to have to disagree with the comparison to the gravity pro. The gravity pro feels less stiff despite the ratings. The yonex here is pretty agreeably stiff for such a low RA. Feels several points higher than one might expect.
    I also feel that the gravity pro generates spin better and is a more stable racquet for sure.
    Something about this yonex felt less stable than it should for it's specs but that honestly seems classic to most yonex frames I've tried.
    I do particularly enjoy this yonex for really hard flat shots where you want to tear through the ball but it just didn't feel as good in the ways you might expect it to from the numbers.
