Thanks a lot for the clear explaination. You saved my '72 Tele Thinline from the consequencies of my "I'm not gonna take pictures before unsoldering stuff, I can perfectly remember everything!"

Roy you never stated , the Capacitor has to be grounded to the volume pot !
I noticed it is soldered on at the end of the video.
    Great Clear and informative
    Thanks

Wee Rocky it's in there. Right in the middle of the video I show exactly where both ends of the capacitor get soldered.

Thanks for the video! I'm about to fix the wiring on a '72 Thinline CIJ and this video is going to be super helpful since like you said there are a lot of different wiring diagrams out there. I will say I'm with Wee Rocky, though, as before 19:35 the cap is ungrounded (18:09 for example) but from the "zoom-out" jump at 19:35 the cap is grounded; the cap is ungrounded when you finish the cap by 9:13. Still, really handy video! Can I suggest that you add a little banner or commend to the video (which you can do in the UA-cam editor) to clarify that the cap should be grounded? Thanks again, Roy!

@@roycox4415 i have watched this video 10 times from start to finish. When you solder the cap to the volume pot, you clearly bend the cap lead away from the pot. Is that supposed to be grounded?

I'm a complete beginner and your videos are perfect for me. I've just started wiring a 'partscaster' strat I've been building. A bit scary to start with, but your tutorials have really helped. I thank you sir.

This video is just what the doctor ordered! I'm about to remove a later addition phase switch and return the guitar to its original set up and your method is so clear and simple. I was on a slight state of panic before l found this. Thanks

Thanks for this video. Why not also ground the switch?

Love this vid. Just about to wire a 72 Thinline I've built and this makes the process crystal clear. My pickups have the braided metal wire so I'm glad you gave that a mention as well. Many thanks for taking the time to put this info up.

It was a great help Roy - many thanks! I'm now playing my Thinline. I did have to reverse the hot wires from the pickups on the switch as it's a leftie. Only realised that after the fact when what should have been the bridge position selected the neck pickup and vice versa!

Thank you for this! I have everything done exactly how you've done it but I'm not getting any sound from the humbuckers other than a hum feedback that goes away when i touch them. I also installed two new 500k pots.

Can I follow this procedure for a regular telecaster, with single coils not thin line? Thanks

I'm looking on Fender's site right now, how come they show a 250k pot with their thinline and deluxe models? I've heard they originally used 1 meg, I've seen 500k. #Confused. I am wanting to build either a Deluxe or a Custom, so I definitely want to do it right the first time.

Hello. Very informative your video. Just want to know if this CORRECT wiring will improve the sound of my MIM 72 RI thinline?

I have a Classic Vibe '72 Thinline body on the way from Stratosphere. The guitar repair shop just lost some money on labor. I can do this!!!

Second cap connection didn't take solder. Wire moves at 8:20 when you bend the cap over.

Those that wire these at the factory would likely shudder regarding much of your workmanship!
