Just wanted to let you know that the diagram you sent me for my Squire Tele switch was spot on ! I wired in the Di Marzio 3 way perfectly. Had to move a couple things around but it all fell into place thanks to you. My new Tele plays well and stays in tune amazingly for such an inexpensive guitar. Sounds as it should and saw it's first professional 4 hour show this past Saturday night without a glitch. Thank you again!
It sounds great! The electronics the guitar had were a mess, also it came with an out of phase humbucker. I ordered new electronics and wired them with your tutorial. But I noticed the problem persisted. I did some reaserch and was advised to switch the wiring on the HB (solder the black where the white was and v-versa) and it worked. Thanks again!! If someone wants me to ela borate on how an out of phase HB sounds like, let me know.
You should the see size of the capacitors I wired mine up with. I went through my old radio parts,( 'bout a hour worth of looking and removing wax, so I could read the values printed on 'em) They are large and barely fit in the compartment. I had no idea how a broadcaster sounded like. I plugged her, I am so happy that I did use this old set up. I was doing a repair from my last screw up. ( I could not turn off the volume entirely) This time I took my time and everything now works great. I replaced the two pots and replaced the switch to a CLR switch ( The reverse one, that also took a long look to figure that out, but I did eventually). The guitar, now , can play any in gendre. From old to new. Rock to soul, even Jazz.
thanks again bill, about to change my tele, pickups and all , where would be the best place for a wiring diagram for any combo of switches and pickups, your vids are excellent and much appreciated
great video, my only question is why don't you make mechanical connections when you solder your components? I'm sure it's personal preference but I've seen many occasions where the solder joint fails because it wasn't mechanically connected first. Not at all saying you are doing anything wrong I want to learn too maybe you know something I don't. Thanks for the video it was done very well.
Hi Eddie, thanks for the comment. You talk of mechanical connections for the wiring, an interesting point. the reasons are that on switches and the like it is not always easy to attach wires to switches etc using mechanical means, the soldered joints that fail will most likely be due to dry joints and these will be the result of poor soldering technique. Many thanks Mr.
Very informative! Question: Had you replaced the value of the volume/tone from 500K (Newer style) to 250k (Classic style) wiring? Lastly, is there plans for a reversal video? Where the control plate is flipped around to allow the volume to be first and switch last (A-la Bill Kirchen style) ?
For a Telecaster fender have a great selection url fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/telecaster-service-diagrams Also the maker of your new pickups say, seymour will have diagrams for their pickups. A word of caution the switch can be tricky, I have shown a traditional switch which has two rows of contacts but if you notice the guitar used was a squier with a lower cost switch with a single row of contacts, and would recomend building a new control plate from scratch.
Hi Doug Thanks for the comment. the tape is there to prevent metal to metal contact between the side of the adjustable spanner and the face plate, where the turning of the spanner could cause scratches
Can someone help :)? I assume this is for a standard parallel middle position but what would be the difference to make the middle position in series? Thanks!
I don't know what I did wrong. I followed your instructions and only get Bridge Pickup with switch to rear....Neck pickup with switch to middle. Forward position is silent. Help!( Tele Squire Affinity 2015 model ) removed faulty switch and replaced with Di Marzio 3 way.
Bruce Maier Hi Bruce sorry to hear it didn't work out first time but try this diagram for a standard tele..support.fender.com/service_diagrams/telecaster/013-5102B_SISD.pdf
Thank you so much! I checked out a Seymore Duncan website a coupe days ago and they had a chart like this one you sent. I see th e wiring is totally different. Thank you so much! This will help ! Bruce Maier / USA
HI William, Sorry for the delay you tube are making getting the comments difficult without trolling through ya vids, all the time. Anyway this diagram came from the fender uk site. hope this helps
You know of course, that you are hooked now..... hmmm just thinking aloud.. strats are nice enough, but all those single coils perhaps a humbucker in the bridge to thicken it up a bit? maybe a real mongrel get rid of that wobbly bridge and put a tele plate in...... lol
This was one of the BEST tutorials on UA-cam. Thank you for producing it.

Very nice! Had a little surprise of a warmer tone with a neck humbucker and 250k pots installed. Noticed it and did my reasearch. Thanks a lot
Professional exposition video . Clarity and excellency resume you.
Excellent video, thank you, you've just saved me a few quid! This has given me the confidence to do it myself rather than buy a solderless drop in kit.
Absolutely superb video! Going to be assembling a custom ordered American Fender Telecaster soon and this has helped me a great deal! Thanks so much!
Very helpful, much clearer than all the other videos I've seen on this topic,
Many thanks 👍🏻
This is a well thought out and nicely presented video. It would be nice to have a current style telecaster wiring video also. Thanks

you have made my boyfriend's life better, thanks!
Helpful, concise, and fun...thanks very much, Bill!
Thank you!! Nice job! from Vancouver Island Canada
Thanks from El Salvador! Wired new pots and 3 way switch thanks!
Thanks for the breakdown. The current configuring on the project guitar differs, but I will try your method.
Again, thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Thank you!! from Barcelona (Spain)
Sounds like an ex military instructor to me. love the video, very useful
Thanks Steve, Not Military, but I do lecture in Electrical Science when needs must.
And your video presentation is straight basic and awsome!! Nice
Fantastic video.
Thanks Mr.Sweeney. Very informative.
Thanks Chillertone

excellent video so clear so didactic !!! thanks a lot

I've been looking for this myself. A reverse plate video would be great!
My Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it :)
Question, do you have to de-solder the wires?. Couldn't just cut them off and peel back the plastic?
Excellent!! I am glad the video was useful.. so how does it sound?

can you use 500k on single coil pickups very nice video thanks.
Great video, thanks a lot !
thank you for the comment :)
what is putting tape on the side of the wrench supposed to accomplish? the bare metal if the wrench jaws is still in contact with the pit's nut.

@sixstringthing1 Thanks for the comment :) it is appreciated... Tthey take a lot of work
What wiring is it ?? Pre-67' when Leo(Fender) owned it? Or CBS bought it they cut wiring short
phucket01 the wiring shown is for an American Vintage 52 Tele
Thank you, Sir. :)
isn't this the vintage wiring configuration instead of the modern?
Mrjamesgrimes it is Amirican Vintage 52 wiring

Absolute pleasure, Bruce.......
Where can I find THAT particular wiring diagram?
HI William, Sorry for the delay you tube are making getting the comments difficult without trolling through ya vids, all the time. Anyway this diagram came from the fender uk site. hope this helps
I thought Teles used Solid shaft pots (not splined)
Use the proper non-adjustable 1/2" and you wont need the Crescent w/ tape.
whats the point of the control plate?
You know of course, that you are hooked now..... hmmm just thinking aloud.. strats are nice enough, but all those single coils perhaps a humbucker in the bridge to thicken it up a bit? maybe a real mongrel get rid of that wobbly bridge and put a tele plate in...... lol
The old paper and oil cap will leak. Not oil but current. New in this case is better.
bonjour superbe vidéo merci je me sent un peu moins perdu.
cdlt.
Merci pour votre commentaire. J'espère que votre projet va bien.
