I work on Fords for almost 30yrs and ill say that ive never had a fuel pump cause lean codes.maybe im lucky but what it is.almost always a vacuum leak or a MAF sensor.very nice video
You gotta admit that having such low pressure perfectly explains the fuel trims. Back in the old days (1990 OBD1), we used adjustable fuel pressure regulators to increase fueling during open loop, during closed loop, the ECM would just pull the extra fuel, but not complain unless you were running absurd fuel pressure that it couldn't correct for.
I wish were close to me in Texas,I've been having a ac problem for over two and half years on my 2017 genesis g90 and quite a few guys on the genesis fourum having the same problem and Genesis have not or can't figure it out ,but they call their guys master tech,u are a lot better than their tec,way better, like I said I wish u was closer
This is easily the best video I have ever seen. It perfectly explains the relationship between fuel trims, and o2 sensors, fuel supply, air and vacuum. I just went through my truck chasing a no code misfire and very bad fuel trims. I found a point where my fuel psi would completely drop to zero and spike back up. I found my ACDelco fuel pump purchased one year ago that only has 6k miles on it has a low fuel pressure with random drops. Wiring between the fuel pump control module look better than they should for their age. 😂. Voltage to pump is strong and constant. Now I am waiting for my warranty replacement and trying to burn up all the fuel in the tank. At least when I was in there last, I replaced all the fuel lines. I am going to inspect the wiring very closely when I get that tank dropped. I have heard that can be a problem point for gm trucks. Great video!!!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Oh oh, I was on my way home and thinking about what you had discussed in this video. Short term fuel trims were pretty good but long term wher 14 and 11. I gave it some gas and the long term fuel trims dropped quickly. As soon as I got to a stop light the long term fuel trims jumped. It seems I must have a vacuum leak. At least I have a direction I can look into my next day off. Looks like I am going to use a fluid transferring pump and a cigar and hopefully find my leak. Thank you so much for the video, it taught me a new trick and just may of helped me fix my truck. 🙏😂
First time visiting your channel. You hit some key components that I really like: * You looked at FF data. This helps tremendously. * You suggest OEM. Cannot tell you how many times I (and iatn members) have bashed my head against the wall on a problem due to aftermarket parts. One thing that would be very nice, is to put down a final fix. Yes, your fuel delivery is low, and most likely a fuel pump, but until this repair is completed we do not know for sure. It's like me waving a magic chicken bone at a Cadillac w/ cam codes and say that it is a stretched timing chain. Honestly, I thought for sure it was going to be defective injectors as this ( and MAF sensor) is the main cause of this code off idle.
Hello bro, as always I really enjoy this video because I think am going to deal with something like this some because on one of the car am fixing I feel the car is misfiring with no code but short fuel trim is 0 and long term is over 35 and this video gives me point of where to look first, Bro more blessing I pray to God to keep increasing you in knowledge, wisdom and understanding. One love ❤❤❤ Keep the good job going
This is wonderful. I'm greatly impressed. Diagnosis made easy. I have a 2008 BMW 535i which I have been battling with lean code bank 2. Funny enough the LTFT is high both on banks 1 and 2. But it only reports code for bank 2. Fuel trim doesn't get better with increasing RPM. Fuel pressure on scan tool is normal at idle. What am I possibly dealing with. I have ruled out vacuum leak with a smoke machine. Your big fan from Nigeria
I did see on the scan tool that if the fuel pressure is low, first check the pressure regulator. So you must have been tapped into the fuel line before the pressure regulator. Very informative video. I am a new subscriber and really like how you teach us as you find the problems! Thanks, Tom

Great job diagnosing the problem brother, u got a new subscriber I'm also surprised that customer didn't complain about lack of power due to low pressure fuel because besides causing running issues I'm pretty sure that lack of power would be an issue as well Great job brother 👌
Great lesson . It pays to be thorough in thw beginning . Some places also replace the fuel filter automatically . And the relay . They may tell the customer if the relay goes bad and you are stuck in a month , no warranty on the your old relay . Overkill but careful .
I can not tell you enough how much I enjoyed this video. You two working together is priceless. Thank you for this great video. One question I will ask you. When, regarding fuel pressure, when will you require the fuel filter replaced? Lester
Good Diagnostic. I find the U.S. version of this Toyota usually has a seperate fuel filter ( in addition to the in tank filter on the pump ). The seperate filter is very poor quality and plugs up easily and may be why the pumps fail. Pretty common here. I replace the filter with a better non-toyota part. Of course new pump also.... Note: this version may not have the seperate filter.
As usual my friend , highly appreciated , professional , fantastic explanation of the problems , respected man and very kind , thanks Deo , is it a correct name , greetings from Egypt .

Im learning mechanics at the Alameda School in Oakland California...Ald guy (51 years old )starting a new career ..Could you explain why step on the brake change fuel trins values and the relationship with 02 sensor ? Im taking computerized engine controls classe and this looks a cool trick brot
@user-lb1zg7wb4f Thank you! when You pump the brake pedal while the engine is idling you create a lean condition on a vehicle that has a vacuum operated brake booster, because in the booster there is vacuum on one side and atmospheric pressure on the other, so pumping the brake pedal allows air to enter the vacuum chamber and create a lean condition, since the vacuum side is attached to the intake manifold, when this happens 02 sensors that are good react to the mixture change very fast, indicating good 02 sensors!!

My friend did you know the ase patches on your shirt are on the wrong side? I say it because they are intended to show this while road testing a vehicle for example . Great job on the diag
Fuel Volume Testing is Great , however ; absolutely unnecessary . Having + 35% means there is not the proper amount of fuel in the combustión chamber when he increases the rpm to 3,500 and I see those numbers I would have gone for maf sensoe not fuel , since from 600 RPM to 3,000 rpm you never change the Inyección pulse at all with no loads how the fuel pressure can afecct when you did not demand for Inyección pulse ?0@cbarkwell1000
