K diagnostic thanks for such an informative cool video, you are truly a professional tech with excellent diagnostic skills, my years in automotive as a SAE certified tech back in the day was filled with learning as much as possible so I could be the best tech possible just like you, another way to check for vacuum leaks due to lean running is to use propane gas around the engine as it's running, when you hit the spot where the leak is the engine will Rev up high as long as you keep the propane gas in that spot, we used to do that in the 80's to find vacuum leaks. Love the Video and your expertise, much respect
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair just remembered something else, the EGR Valve is only suppose to open during open throttle and when cruising but at idle it's suppose to close so it doesn't make the car run too lean, but the symptoms would be that the car runs fine when cruising but would shut off at idle cause the EGR valve would stay stuck open and lean out fuel system at idle...don't know if that's a problem with the cars nowadays with all the new technology and computer controls
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I had my nephews 2007 corolla towed home, I scanned it and got this same lean code , I found no vacuum leak but I took 3 spark plugs out and found the plug tips soaked with oil and combustion chamber has oil in it on 3 cylinders, 4th cylinder and plug is dry, didn't do compression test yet but what could it be?..the combustion chamber suppose to be sealed so how can oil soak tip of plugs and get into chamber? @@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_RepairThank you!✌ I was able to get my Check engine light off 👍the next day using your technique. I have an autel scanner but never realized what the numbers meant till your video.
Thanks for your video. Obviously there was a vacuum leak at the PCV hose connector. I also think there are additional problems. I would put a fuel pressure gauge to monitor fuel pressure a idle and at load. In addition. a fuel injector "drop test" to monitor for clogged fuel injectors. My concern was as you increased RPMs past idle, the positive LT FT started increasing. Also , the MAF sensor seemed Skewed a little in the positive direction, as mentioned at idle with a 1.8 L engine MAF should read ~ 1.8 G/s. Also, I would recommend an oil change to the customer since the high fuel trims may have fuel to the engine oil. Once again thanks for your video.
FAUSTO GONZALEZ Thanks for your input!! There was no need to check all of those components since the fuel trim numbers got better after fixing the vacuum leak at the PCV tube, I like the idea of doing an oil change afterwards!!

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair you are too good in your explanation of vacuum leak and diagnosis of fuel trim by interpreting with your scanner tools that is great
@@babatundeajisegiri980 Thank you!
K you did an excellent job...my car has the same error minus the P420(the cat was replaced a year ago) The PO171 is something new I hope once I clean the MAF, That ista a simple vacuum leak that can fix!! Thank you

Great teaching, clear and helpful. Very good and knowledgeable.
raymond ng Thank you!
I’d leave the catalytic converter alone as the efficiency code could be due to the lean conditions 🤔
Have the customer drive it and if it returns, then replace the cat.
turbo8711 Yes the cat trouble code came back when I test drove the vehicle, I replaced it and all was well!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair could you of tested the cat by doing a, back pressure gage test, hooked to the upstream O2? if its under 2 lbs at idle it should be fine.. s
@@daytonpyro Yeah a back pressure test is also valid!
I have the same car and it has the same problems and it had a crack at the same place in the hose.
Guess I need to get me one of them smoke machines.
Great job on the video and explanation. I like to work on my cars, but the issues I run into are usually the first time for that issue so I need a lot of details which you provide. Thank you.

I’m so impressed by the way u explain ur videos , simple and direct .
Where to find how much should be at idealing the reading for the MAF for :
Nissan Titan 5.6 L 8 cylinder ?
Mercedes CLS550, 5.5 L , 8 cylinder ? 26:15 26:15
Mercedes ML350 , 3,6L 6 cylinder?
@essamdalgamouni1536 Thank you! your MAF sensor reading should be close to the engine size at idle
A very good mechanic. Thanks for sharing good knowledge
@nathanderibe9230 Thank you!
will try this method in my car simple explanation. You have a gift thanks for this vedio.

@SantosAlvarez-df8dg That's too bad, Thanks
One of the best diagnosis video deserve million hits
I have AF sensor 4V this means leans mean more air or less fuel
So the STFT and LTFT are low and when I add they are nearly 0
The post Cat oxygen sensor is like 0.9V constant when I rev up it starts jumping here and there
Any ideas mate what is happening
I have checked the fuel pressure it was in limit
Cleaned the injectors
Using techstream for diagnosis
@mikmik7033 what code do you have in memory and how low are your fuel trim numbers at idle!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair
Thanks there is no code what I notice B1S1 is like 4V should b 3.3V
LTFT 9%
STFT 3%
I will upload the idle and 3000 rpm data
I have run the odb tool 0n idle and 3000rpm but I am unable to upload here

I was fining it difficult to read the diagnostics on the screen, because light on your diagnostics screen was not bright. Apart from that everything is well explained and understood.
@naabligay9542 Thanks!
May be a dumb question but at 14 minutes you pumped on the brake pedal to make the O2 sensors react. Hiw does that change the readings of the sensors. You have the best explanation of the trouble codes online, simple and very clear. Thank you.
@davida2043 My Pleasure! when you pump the brake pedal on a car that has a vacuum operated brake booster, the booster causes the engine to run lean, because air on the other side booster chamber will enter the vacuum chamber
Got it! Thank you so much. Keep up the great videos.
Another awesome video! I’m surprised that the rear O2 never really started switching after it warmed up.

Thanks for your educational videos, may I know the best reading of MAF sensor for Corolla 2001 Short term and long term, because numbers stays 1.05 both Short and Long term. I really appreciate your help.
@kaaraa-mardha1977 My Pleasure! you should have 10% plus or minus total trim short term plus long term! and MAF should be around 1.9g/s on a 1.8L Engine!
