    I done similar conversion to my 1.8t years ago. Just I used Febi 06687 tension roller with washer under it, G1283H timing belt, and no small roller seen in this video. It done almost 100 000 km and it just had new kit installed. Works perfectly to me. I also keep checking timing belt tension regularly, but only needed to do it once on the first kit.

      What was the size of washer?

    • @ev-olution8597

      @@normantasstr4451 Unfortunately I can not tell, as it was long time ago. I measured gap between original tension roller and surface where it touches engine, then did same with new tension roller and done the math to calculate washer size. I hope you get the idea.

      abit late probably, but you just have to cash out for a new tensioner, might aswell change the belt at the same time, i had the belt snap on my VW 1.6TD, byebye valved, camshaft and lifters.

    • @IEtuned
      @IEtuned  8 років тому

      You can try tightening a little more and see if that helps. It's common for timing belts to stretch a little as they wear. For that reason we recommend checking the belt tension at every oil change.

    • @kevinp4532

      Checked it, front run was re-adjusted. This time around i used the gates. It is a noisy belt, and i believe it to be un balanced. I should have just sticked with OEM belt. Live and Learn. Also you're idler bearing is squealing something fierce.

    This set up work good for stock engines? Barely did a timing belt and water pump but having issues with the oem tensioner damper tensioner pulley roller and night have actually stripped/damaged the pulley roller. Something like this seems like it would be easier to work on and maintain so I’m considering

      Coming from a Naturally Aspirated Golf 2.0, it's worth it, the tensioner is very straightforward especially for future service. It's uncommon for the tension to come defective.

    So. When tensioning the belt. If your verfied timing marks havent moved.
    You install the belt. And thus begin tensioning. If the cam moves slightly during tensioning. There shouldnt be anything to worry about bc one tensioned the marks will go back or. Should the marks line up after tension applied and snug+torqued
    If i need to offset the marks just enough so that when i have tension and torque the nut that the marks are dead on

      Go look at how to properly time your 1.8t, then come back here. You won't always be able to reference the timing marks on the old belt, eg it broke! Thus you should learn how to set up your timing from scratch starting with how to set your engine to TDC, etc, etc, etc....

      @@emotionalintelligence776 ive down 4 or 5 timing belt jobs now. As well as one on my girls car. Im.more then capable of timing my or any 1.8t motor. @@emotionalintelligence776 when applying the belt you offset crank so when you finally get the belt onto the cam sprocket. The crank TDC mark is right there and your cam sprocket mark should be within a half a tooth either way due to the slight shift with the harmonic balancer pulley.

      @@ItsViirn the twist test is not a proper official test as stated in the service manual. sonic testers that you pluck the belt and test for frequency in hz are accurate and recommended. deflection test is good to use as shown in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/4fva6d3kZas/v-deo.html yes its a ford engine but this guy has got the tension close enough by using deflection test. 5mm deflection is ideal no more than 1cm deflection on the longest run when pressed from the middle otherwise you risk belt jumping a tooth when cold, remember the belt doesnt stretch much over time usually no more than 2mm stretch over the lift of the belt. if pushed longer then intended service life it could stretch more. engines dont expand as much as people think when hot. imagine if you had 5mm expansion, headgaskets would be leaking left right and center.

    it.s a lil bit funny because the camshaft gear it..s moving when u aply tension on the tensioner pulley , this is wrong .. because there is a pin between camshaft gear and camshaft , if it moves u had a bad timing !

      Mine (2000 Beetle 1.8T) did the same thing. The timing belt kit I installed was 3 months old (bought from www.ecstuning.com/) and the tensioner failed. Research, after the fact, shows ECS has a history of the same problem. Replaced the tensioner (10 minute job but another 4 hours and a pain in the ass to get to), and now works fine.
