lol the reason you had to realign to tdc is probably cause you’re rotating the engine backwards causing even more excess slack. If your doing a timing job you should know to only rotate the engine the direction the engine actually runs in!
am i able to just loosen the tensioner and remove the timing belt if im not replacing the cam/crank seals? all the diy instructions have you removing the cam/crank sprockets...ive done timing chains on a q5 and had to remove the sprockets for the cams so wasnt sure. thanks
I don’t know but my grandfa has told me that “ No backward rotations more than 45 degrees or the direction of the engine on TB of vag vehicles “. 😂 Yep, I’ll be going to do TB on 1.8 soon but yes I need so many pros n cons on doing so …

Why are you turning the engine COUNTER CLOCKWISE???
I saw that too. Not a good idea
Yup, agree it was rotated anticlockwise. Good video.
Very informative know wonder my machenic charges 400 euro for new timing belt and pump

Nice trick to just remove one bolt out of the hydraulic tensioner, ty!

I is that tentioner self adjust?
Is this what u do when you lose the timing marks? ie broken timing belt
Don't use a chain on cam gear any bruising will shred the belt ,so many bad idea's on youtube
Good thing ur engine not interference or else wouldn't run anymore rotated backward 😂
Danger.....do not rotate the engine anticlockwise
is there danger if the timing assembly is fully assembled and you're turning with the engine off?
@@andrewthag Nope as long as you’re only rotating the engine clockwise you’ll be fine
