I tell expats moving to Jakarta that this city is like a raging river. If you accept that it is a raging river, keep your eyes open, ride the waves, accept the challenge, you will love it. If you fight it and want it to flow your way, you get hurt. Jakarta is an amazing city filled with amazing people. If you come to live here be respectful.

I was only in Jakarta for 4 days and it stressed me out and I felt overwhelmed ! So big congratulation for you for being able to tough it out for almost a decade !

I’m from Strasbourg not too far from Switzerland and after living for 9 years in Indonesia, now I have a business in Tanzania 😅 if you want to visit I will be glad to guide you
Thanks man you make me feel less alone. Growing and owning our life as an adult is insanely hard, but the more mature you are the more you appreciate every single thing in life no matter how small, even things you've taken for granted in the past. Now I understand why my parents did what they did and made the mistakes they made. Life can get hard sometimes and nobody's perfect including our parents, people, and us. At the end of the day, we're all just humans who try to do our best with everything we know at the moment. If we find success great, if we fail, we learn, no shame in it. Props to you and your journey! Wishing nothing but best of luck moving forward 💪🏻 🎉
That was deep and touched my soul coz the word you were using resonated me as if as it was me saying it. I’m so glad I’m made you feel less alone, and I’m sure with the mentality you have I have no doubt that you will succeed in whatever you are wishing to make out from this life ! Thanks a lot for your comment and stay blessed forever ✨

Patience itself won't be enough. You need to be steadfast as well. Well, that's two different words in English, but we might only have one word in Bahasa Indonesia; which is 'Sabar.' But, 'sabar' itself needs more meaning and more energy to practice especially in Jakarta. Glad you survived all this time. Because for me, I need lots of gratitude for Jakarta. I was building up my career in software engineering in Jakarta, I met my future wife in Jakarta, I rented my first house in Jakarta, and I had my first car (well) in Jakarta. Even when I moved away from Jakarta, I still had my commute to Jakarta. There was a time when I had to commute for 5 hours in total (round trip) from Bogor to Slipi (West Jakarta) in 2019. Thanks to Jakarta, I'm able to build myself up until this very moment. Right now, I'm living in Tokyo. While it's obviously a better city than Jakarta. But I won't forget about Jakarta, I won't be ungrateful for all the lessons I had from Jakarta. Once again, I'm glad you found a meaningful life in Jakarta. And thank you for reminding me about Jakarta.
You’re absolutely right ! I relate to everything you said, expect the car and the wife part hahha. Jakarta was and will be forever the playground that help to become a real man ! I wish all the best in Japan ! Stay blessed mate

Mais it’s worth it ! Best of luck !
As a Jakarta born, raised and living in, I only want to say, get yourself closer to God when you're in Jakarta. Because you really need extra strength to live here
Jakarta = The City that test you to your limit me as a New yorker = bro You haven't seen the worst we New Yorker can offer Me = I'm really thinking hard about moving back to bekasi now. I miss Kuningan City
I came to Jakarta 17 years ago from a small town surrounded by volcanoes in all four directions in East Java. I was outgoing and really curious to explore Jakarta when I first came. I got to know people from different cities in Indonesia, from different background and educations. what I learned in the past 17 years living here is; Jakarta provides you with opportunity, but they wont come to your way in a blink of an eye. you must have that determination and drive to never giving up. one of the people I met is a gojek rider and he said to me (that I am fully agree), that you can turn stones into gold In Jakarta, there's nothing impossible if you refuse to give up and you must force yourself to never give up. Jakarta can be friendly, packed with opportunities if only we know where to look for. but Jakarta can also be really cruel and just like you said, Patience is important. and you are also right that patience is how we deal with situations. during my time living in Jakarta, I encountered so many manipulative and cunning people, they mostly take advantage of a trusting and kindness of those who arent coming from Jakarta. and I was - more than once - became the victim of such people; one of them is related to me. and their goal is only one thing - MONEY. It was heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time, but this is how I learned to read people and be careful. during my 17 years living in Jakarta, I can say that I learned to be street smart, theories are sometimes just BS, most theories you learned in college, wont apply when you got into the workforce in Jakarta. so for any of you who wants to make a living in Jakarta, Jakarta welcomes you and will provide for you as long as you know where to look and able to seize any opportunity that comes to your way; there's no second chances in Jakarta. so once you see and aware of one, grab it because it may not coming back for you...
That’s very deep ! And I couldn’t agree more about everything you said. I felt what you said the struggle the hustle that Jakarta offers you is real. You need to be very strong patient and determined to win, because you are competing with lots of people ! I hope wherever you are now that you are healthy and happy and successful ! Stay blessed mate
I hope you enjoy living in indonesia the country tourist site is decorated and glitter with fake gold and shiny paper object the truth is indonesia is very harshed for native and for expat god willing you have enough money dude Aku harap kamu menikmati tinggal di indonesia situs turisnya di dekor dan ditaburi dengan emas palsu dan potongan kertas berkilau kenyataannya indonesia sangatlah keras untuk pribumi dan turis asing insyaAllah kamu mempunyai uang bung 🎉❤🎉❤🎉

But, 'sabar' itself needs more meaning and more energy to practice especially in Jakarta.

Strong bro ,,you amazing

I hope you enjoy living in indonesia the country tourist site is decorated and glitter with fake gold and shiny paper object the truth is indonesia is very harshed for native and for expat god willing you have enough money dude
🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Ngga juga sih. After spending almost a decade in Indonesia I met lots of Indonesians people who have their dream life in Indonesia, and most of my Indonesians friends who studied in Europe they always come back to Indonesia. There is some inequality indeed like in every country, however Indonesia is changing and moving forward ✨
Relatable
Have you been living in Jakarta as well ?
