Number 2 is so correct, when I was in Europe, at first I thought it was just me that don’t like small talk, I feel failed as Indonesian which known for it’s friendly people. But, when I work in Indonesia with foreigner colleagues, I noticed only the foreigners who will greet and start the small talk first. I got confused if someone ask me how are you, I will really think how I feel at that time, but also think other answers beside I’m fine are unnecessary 😂
It happened to me too, when I studied in Sweden. Not about being friendly or not..but I was so annoyed by the "how are you" or "how was your weekend" questions. As Indonesian, we are more familiar with "activity or achievement-based" topics like "how is your work? Have you had lunch? Have you married yet? Any updates from your crush? Did you know that (insert gossip here)" etc 🤣 So, small talks like how-are-you really triggering because "don't you see I'm standing here, so it means I'M ALIVE?" 🤨 After some months, I took Intercultural Communication course and it explained exactly with Indonesian case story, compared to Germany (and British, if I'm not mistaken)..so then I understand why I felt that way. It's merely because Europe and Asian communication culture just different 😂😂😂
@@mino_bakiI returned to Indonesia for good in the end of 2020..but the small talk difference still hit me the hardest 😅 And European (especially Swedes) love to start talking with weather. It's so funny how in one day, I could paraphrase 3 versions of weather complaint because I had to meet 3 different circles of friends 😮💨
Since we're very diverse with hundreds of tribes, languages and cultures, we're custom to know new things about each other. It helps us being friendly to be able socialize adapt to new culture and not too suspicious with other cultures.
hi im indonesian myself. if you already in a place to understand these things, you are officially indonesian bro. about rubber time, i hate it myself. it often drives me crazy to deal with these people, so i understand your perspective. thanks for making this video
rubber time is only somehow acceptable only in social meetings .. don't do this on official meetings .. so indeed we acknowledged that rubber time is a bad habit ..

about eating worm, it's not only in papua or maluku but also in gunungkidul regency, part of yogyakarta province (yogyakarta special region). but the worm is from different kind of tree since sago can only be found in eastern side of indonesia. and not only worm but also grasshopper, not all but specific species.
Hi Mino…. I am born and raised Indonesian, but I find jam karet is very disrespectful. Granted that I worked as flight attendant in my 20s, and exposed to diverse culture ( mainly European culture ). But you know what I find it funny; when the person is an hour late, and I decided to leave / not to wait for them regardless - they’re mad at me because I don’t want to wait for them 😂. Btw I enjoy your videos, especially the Indonesian nun in Tanzania. Keep up the good work.
I did that too the first year when I moved to Indonesia 😂 but then I just open my laptop and work on my stuff while waiting, but indeed it’s very disrespectful ! Thanks for watching and thanks for your support 🙏🏼
1. We may be late at everything but please note, do not used to be late all the time, there are people, people, and public transportation that is always on time, like train. You have to arrive ar train station at least 10 minutes for checking and entering the waiting area. We use airport system for our train station. Which is we enjoyed. When the schedule says it leaves station at 10.30 then it'll be 10.30
Some batak sub-ethnic are not talk loudly lke that. For example is batak simalungun. Batak simalungun live on the east side of lake toba. Land here are less mountainous compared to other batak region. Unlike people who live close to toba lake, simalungun people live in group in small villages called "nagari", mainly consists of 2 or more families and their descendants Due to how they live batak simalungun usualy talk just like other ethnicity in indonesia. Also, since they live in group which mostly still related, batak simalungun people are more shy than the rest of batak. But, unlike the rest of batak, batak simalungun looks more asian since many of them also intermarrying with chinese merchant due to simalungun location are close to malaca strait

I want to add a strange thing in Indonesia, namely the seasons, there are many seasons in Indonesia depending on what fruit is being harvested.
