Cheers, STL
A lot of English spoken and even on the walls in the grocery store. It looks like a dream to live in a beautiful laid-back place like that. ❤ Everyone seems happy too - many smiles.
If you like beautiful laid back places...check out the Philippines. I just spent almost 2 months vacationing there. Everyone speaks English, they love Americans and the main religion is Roman Catholic; so women are treated with respect. It's very safe. The Mall of Asia has (armed) security guards every 60 feet and they're very helpful. The are the friendliest people I've ever experienced anywhere. They have security at the entrance of every retail store (even 7-Elevens) and they open the door for you with a warm smile and a "Good morning sir/mam." It's like going back in time 50 years ago; when people had manners.
Had never heard of Lombok before....very cheap and looks very appealing...thanks for the great tour, much appreciated! 🤗
Me neither and looks like a place I wouldn't mind Spending Some time in, at least a month.
Its so beautfull
Thank you for filming our real estate office with crepes stand in the front. Kuta Lombok is the best ❤
Find me a tour company want to come visit
I remember visiting Kuta Lombok about 30 years ago. Not much of that there then - in fact, I can only remember choosing between only 2 restaurants / cafes and only one resort which basically monopolizing the whole beach! Wow, what a change!
Thanks for sharing wonderful memories Peter! Ironically, sitting almost alone on nearby Tanjung Aan beach at North end (with just 1 beach hut warung and a solitary fisherman) I was reminded of Playa Del Carmen 20+ years ago. Can see here: ua-cam.com/video/-u2C0ZjfKOM/v-deo.html
Meanwhile, yes, just over the next bay Kuta Mandalika & area is rapidly changing (but still has a village by the sea vibe and waaaaay chiller and nicer than Kuta Bali imho;)
I spent 2 weeks in Lombok in 1991. It was so much nicer than Bali. Virtually no tourism back then, but the people had a fantastic lifestyle because of the rich fishing and farming.
The reason I love Lombok and now I live in Lombok😊
When I retire I’m going to live in a different country every winter and spend summer in my happy place in upper Michigan
I was there in 1989, 1995, 1999/2000. I love the nice Balinese people. They gave me so good memories that I never will forget. This is something you never can't buy with money.
FYI. What you've saw in this video is "Kuta Mandalika" which is one of the popular tourist spot in Lombok island, Indonesia. Not the Kuta Bali one. So basically they're not balinese but Sasak people. Sasak is the ethnic group in Lombok.
@@zein8823there are many Balinese living in Lombok too especially in Mataram many kampung Bali, so he probably not wrong 😂
I am Vietnamese but live in US. I would love to take a vacation to go to Kuta Beach. It is much more affordable than we had a EU trip recently. I love riding a motorcycle.
Im a balinese and i am a motorbike riding lover as well. I guarantee it will be a good experience for you to ride circling the island for a day or two. Bonus trip you can hop to the next island sumbawa by ferry.. beach on your left hand side and hill on the right
Wow, first time watching your videos (it just showed up in my feed) and honestly I’ve never had much interest in traveling to this part is the world. But I’ve got to say, this piqued my interest. Many beautiful spots, nice modern and clean places to stay and eat, and friendly, welcoming people. Not to mention, pretty cheap! Thanks for the insights into a new potential travel destination for me!
wow, looks like Lombok is as good as Bali and many tourists as well. Just Lombok is less crowded, which could be good for some people who dont like crowdness
Wow beautiful !! This seems to be Indonesia 🇮🇩. What a beautiful country with really lovely people. Maybe this could be a place to retire !!
How did the retirement plan work out?
Went to Kuta, Lombok circa 2010. The only thing there was a gorgeous beach and maybe one homestay. It looks awesome now. I always remember how organized things were in Mataram, or was it Ampenan(?). I’d love to stay there for a couple of months.
Kuta beach views in the morning with a coffee”paradise” and it looks like getting around on the motorbike is easy enough…..another great video STL!
Thx MauiHowey, biking all over Lombok is fantastic, decent roads and great views. Apart from Kuta, there's even nicer beaches as we'll see in next vid and also here ua-cam.com/video/-u2C0ZjfKOM/v-deo.html
I was impressed at how well stocked that grocery store was, and was thinking it is better stocked than my current store in the US nowadays.
Been watching your videos for non-stop lately😅. You are really great at making someone feel like they’re there actually travelling with you. Planning my SE Asia in March and got some crucial info from your videos. Thank you🙏
You are covering some details on Bali and Lombok that others miss. I appreciate that. I need to get over there.
The number one problem with staying long term in Indonesia is that its not easy to get a Long Term Visa, regardless of Nationality.. A Business Visa can cost a lot as well as a Retirement Visa, Im unsure of what they cost these days as SE Asia Visas are changing fast but it would be easy enough to find out how you can apply for one, how much it costs and if you have to do a Visa run out of the country every 3-6 or 12 months.
If you visit the place then that sort of information could be found easy.
I showed visa options in an earlier vid (but should have also added here as you correctly point out). So for more visa info, I'll copy n paste my response to another commenter below, hope this helps:
----------
Indonesia Visas? Most just use the 30 days on arrival visa ($35) and renew for another 30 days and then via visa runs to re-start (flight to Singapore etc). There's also a B211 Visa (meant for offshore workers) cost approx $300 for 180 days (valid for 60 days but can be extended twice). Indonesia is also rolling out a 5 year 'second home' visa for those with 130k in the bank. Beyond visa on arrival, most use local visa agents for longer term stays.
I knew people that lived on Bali years ago and they did their Visa Run to Singapore and they calculated the flight and the time in Singapore plus the Visa as one price.
But would be nice to have this information updated as of this week just to give us an idea of the specifics
@@abw48it's still not necesarry to fly HOME and then back again? How much is the flight to Singapure and back again? It's ok to fly back straight away?
I love your content, because you always give a good look about, with short term and long term rentals at all different price points. Plus you get off the beaten path. The bars and resturants you go to are just what I like Thanks for the great work!!!
Cheers Joe
I haven't been to southern Lombok in over 30 years. Same planet different world and looking good.
Your videos are the most thorough out there. I love that you never forget price, grocery, local fare… top notch vlogger, I really enjoy!
Been there twice last time 1995. All I can say is that it has changed a lot !
For the better I think. More prosperous ,cleaner , etc . just hope it doesn't get overrun with tourists.
They do appear to have big plans for Kuta Lombok area but thankfully the village is still fairly chill, plus other chill beaches as seen here: ua-cam.com/video/-u2C0ZjfKOM/v-deo.html
So happy to have come across this video. This is exactly the kind of information I have been looking for. I watched some of your earlier vids too. Very informative. Nice format. I’m your new subscriber now. I’m planning a 6 month trip to SE Asia starting March 2023. Your vids will be invaluable to me 😀
Wow, I just came back from Kuta, Lombok. The places you went to and of course in the background, my cousin and I ate at those places. Looking at your video it took me right back to Lombok. Oh and yes I'm looking at going back in '23. I never thought of going in to the back ( away from downtown, busier area) of Kuta to look for cheap places to stay.
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing this 🙌. I have been wanting to go somewhere different. Looks very peaceful and serein.
What was the cost to go ?
I was there over 20 years ago, can't get over how different it is. Great video, thank you.
This looks less busy and safer than Bali to go for walks without the traffic
Indonesia really is the perfect place to visit except for the 30 day visa. 🤪I’ve only been to North Sumatra so far. Palau Weh, Danau Toba, + Bukit Lawang were my fav spots…palau weh was quiet + dreamy, didn’t want to leave. I would love to spend 2 months on Lombok + Gilis but there are 5 of us, expensive visa runs to KL 😅 but maybe worth it 🤔, thks for sharing!
What do you mean Visa runs? Is one only able to stay for 30 days and then where do you have to go to be able to re-enter and how long do you have to stay away? What is the procedure to be able to stay six months or 3 years
Terima kasih sudah datang berkunjung ke daerahku.semoga anda betah dan senang selama berada di lombok.di lombok masih banyak keaneka ragaman seni budaya seperti tema yang aku angkat tentang seni budaya lombok.
Thank you soooo much. You just described an affordable safe, affordable, paradise holiday destination for us. Just gooorgeous!!!
Brilliant! Straight to the point and informative. Really surprised but happy to see Kuta Lombok compared to my last visit 10 years ago. Literally only has 1 hotel, and few villas under constructions, and 2 (afaik) cafes. Pretty chill and quite.
Thanks Umar. Must have been a great time to visit back then. As you and others have said, many changes since but still a chill vibe, let's hope that remains.
Wow this is definitely not the rustic Lombok I remember from a decade ago. You have inspired a revisit. Thanks eh
Nice, must've been pretty laid back 10 years ago. But still a rustic vibe about the place imho, for sure worth a visit (or re-visit;)
Great video packed with a ton of info and nice friendly people! Makes me want to get out of the freezing and on to
the beach!🏝 Treehouse has my vote.
You have a very easy and kind sounding voice to listen to.
I spent 6 weeks in bali in 2009. Such a great place. Great memories. If I ever went back I'd definitely splurge on a place that had AC. Looks like a lot has changed over the last 14 years.
Thanks for the video upload! Lombok, Indonesia is on my bucket list! 💡
I’ve been to this place in 1990, not many tourists. It was very quiet with only a few locals rented out their home. Looks so different now.
I went there about 4yrs ago and had a great time, people are friendly and dare I say safer then Bali. and looks like Bali did 20 yrs ago
Lombok Not like Bali 20 years ago but Bali 46 years ago..
I stayed at Kuta Beach, Bali fifty years ago. Didn't know about this Kuta Lombok.
Very exciting, my girlfriend and I have plans to move to Bali in 7 - 8 months thanks to investing properly and my UA-cam income... Looking forward to it when I see these videos!
Thank you for doing this. I watch a popular catamaran fam on YT & they used to film the stores & the groceries etc wenever they went to land (all over the globe) but stopped doing that; to me their chan has gone downhill. Thanks for showing us all the stuff we are interested in as travelers.
Was there around 2010 for one month and two years later again. I remember some dusty roads, a handful of homestays and a few restaurants. It has developed a lot.
I like your recording style. It’s upbeat, friendly, and you give just enough info. I like that you explore.
This video was a precious gem about prices, location, contacts. Airbnb actually is over the most people can pay. Thanks a lot :D
Wow, I haven't been there for 40 years absolutely nothing there. Been to Bali many times including 4 this year. Definitely worth looking at for my next visit in March, lets hope can still get visa extension on the 30 day tourist visa seeing as they are changing a lot. Great casual vid glad I clicked on to look.🙏👍
Very chill vibe in Lombok, hope development continues without changing the vibes, finger crossed. You doing great man. Lovely vlog
What a beautiful and peaceful place, that is definitely living life. Enjoy it at best, friend. Thanks for sharing.
I am Ana Jarai live in USA 🇺🇸 love to visit Anak Indonesia country one day
Beautiful place, thanks for the warm views 👍
Thanks. Very nice clip .👍👍👍
Went there in 2010 while living in Mataram. Loved all the places we went on Lombok, but Kuta was a little more rustic than most. It was the overlooked and more rural beach on the island. But we knew there was a plan for investment in infrastructure and development. Good for the people and the economy…but another place built for tourists that lost its character. So it goes.
Wow, seems easy to get around, with so many speaking English.
Thanks for letting me know about this place. I think it's a gem.❤
This is a great travel option I has no idea about ... nicely done! Also, Sweet Baby Ray's sucks, it's mostly corn syrup. Don't do it!
As someone considering longer term stays I like the trips into the grocery stores and seeing real time costs of everyday food items. Don't be shy ablout drilling down into those costs on a few more staple items! Love the location and there's no doubt it's gonna blow up with the Mandalika development and race track et al.
Thx CK, I like seeing prices etc too, will try to incl more.
Why travel anymore? It takes me two weeks to recover from the real world.
Adeng-adeng... Slow down!! 😁😁😁🍺
Just back 25 days pattaya , had to come home to recover LOL ! Kuta looks super I would like to visit !
There should be a t-shirt: 'Pattaya Vacation Survivor' lol. Yes, all Lombok is well worth a visit, for sure!
Where is Pattaya? Can older people have safe fun there? 🏖️
Happy! From 33k subs now to 36k++ Hopefully STL can stay in Indonesia for a long time and explore a lot here. Keep making good content, don't focus on the number of views.... The number of views will follow when good content is created... It may not be immediately obvious, but it takes time and when it does, you can see it from the number of views on this video...and the number of subscribers that continues to grow... Keep spirit... 3 x 🤗
Great video, thank you 🙏 I’m a first time subscriber because it just happened to pop up on my feed. Looks like another place to put on my travel calendar. I look forward to seeing your next adventure/ video!
This only just showed up now, 1 year later since you posted? Anyhow, I want to live in simplicity & this place is at the top of my list 😊
Looks like an awesome place grocery store was amazing.. looks like it has good infrastructure.
Nice vid. Thanks.bring back old memory years ago spent whole month there.
Hiya. STL. A little behind. But will catch it before the weekend is out. Happy New Year.
Thank you for the lovely tour around. Always informative. Great video.
Good vibes. Your food looked so good. Definitely perfect pudding. Have a great weekend.
I love the way you do these videos, all the extra information you include. It's so much more helpful than people posing in waterfalls 😂
Another brilliant video, love this channel I’ve stopped in so many of your recommended hotels 😂
Nice Matthew, thanks!
Glad this video got a lot of views it was great
EXCELLENT VIDEO OF MOBAK, VERY INTRESTING WITH LOTS OF INFORMATION TO MAKE UP MIND FOR ACCOMODATION AND DINING PLACES. THANKS FOR SHARING PRICES AND MENU WHICH MOST OF THE VIDEO BLOGGERS MISS THAT. LOOKING FOR NEXT VIDEO. KEEP IT UP😀
Great video, full of important information and no fluff no fluff! Thanks!
i want to live here
I was impressed at how well stocked that grocery store was, and was thinking it is better stocked than my current store in the US nowadays. Very nice.
You have made my retirement plans easier. I cannot WAIT “to send for the children” and greet them in a giant hat and breezy dress at the airport. Thank you so much!! ❤❤❤
wow. that place looks like a future adventure. 👍😺 looks a lot safer to ride a motorbike than Thailand too
Really is lovely riding around Lombok and outside of the main city of Mataram, usually little traffic (but like anywhere hati-hati / cha cha ;)
Spectacular!!!!!!! Saya sangat mensentaimu kamu kamu!!!!
Thanks for the warm vibe! I need that when -20 is outside🙂
Yikes! Warm wishes Vyacheslav
OK WOW....The video answered nearly all my questions and believe me i had a lot. Definitely A MASTER CLASS in how to do a travel video. You had me hooked from the first shot....Good on ya mate....i am a new fan
Yes I would love to go.
I enjoy videos very much!! Am planning to visit Kuta Lombok soon. Thank you for sharing
Hello from CA & thanks 4 the great video in Lombok!
Thanks Liz
I love the idea of jumping on an inexpensive scooter and just driving the island. You could actually live here on SS alone.
Cool - Since you shared with us, now we don't need to go on vacation. - My wife, will be thrilled? - looks like a great place. ty for your efforts.
Excellent video, lot of info.. very helpful for future travelers. Thank you so much.🙏
Looks so much better than Thailand
Cheaper for sure.
I don't say that Thailand is expensive, though. But this one is cheaper.
No way, you'll have those kind of accomodations in Phuket for 1 month less than 300 Dollars.😂
Lombok is great went by ferry from bali to it food is great also People there
1st visit to your channel. Nice relaxing style, not too rushed, good titles to help understand local things. New Subscriber and liked. Trying to decide on Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand or ??? Happy Trails from Florida (Merry Christmas from WDW)

It looks like a place to go, great presentation.
TY
It's cold in Canada 🇨🇦 and where I am too. 🧊🧊🧊
Thanks BB, sending warm wishes!
Wow I was thinking about Lombok. I wanted to go visit Komodo Island and the Hobbit Cave in Flores :-) Hell yes, I am going now when I leave Phuket.
Love the feel people and. Water. Can’t handle the humidity. It’s a killer.
Cool video; thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the presentation. In 3-4 months I will be leaving Middle East and wondering where next. I believe you have answer my question!!! New Subscriber
146k views in 7 days!! Happy Xmas Mr STL, thanks for the vids in '22.
Wow very nice and attractive place. I never heard of it before. Thanks a lot indeed for the valuable info
Looks fabulous. I would have chosen the Treehouse. Cathy and Kevs x
That Treehouse prob has the coolest interior design of the lot, loved it (went back for a drink and spring rolls after but phone died;)
Great video. I hope your channel grows!
Like your video's with maps in them. Good Job, keep it up.
Been following your vidoes for over a year. Love your vidoes
Thanks Sunny
Glad I found your channel. Really cool. I saw your BKK video first $345 a month condo and really enjoyed that as well. I subscribed 👍🏽
The Gili Islands are just off the north west of Lombok as well. It's a bit of a trip but a few days on one of them is pretty amazing too - as is treking up the volcano, Mt Rinjani, if you're reasonably fit... Lombok is a bit more sparse than Bali too, if you prefer things quieter..
So basically if going to bali. Now one can skip bali and go to lombok instead and have a good holiday? ? And do we have to fly to bali first? ? Cheers
Do many people speak English there?
The grocery shopping options looks much better than the Philippines to me but I’m not good at learning other languages.
If you’re surrounded by tourists you’ll be ok
