What brand door are those? I’m looking for that same exact type/style doors that are slim slats like the one you have instead of those big sheet metal ones
I just installed this. So easy, it took me 1.5 hours to do 2 doors, because I'm a bit slow. It looks great and I'm sure it works great too. Can't wait for the next hot day lol. Also, thumbs up for the great service from this lovely family company. It took only 3 days to arrive !
@@timjamesvella I used brushes which are the FLAT kind and around 4 inches long yet quite cheap at our local hardware. About $75 each, yet I needed 3 as the length was too short for our doors. To stop the crawlies and dirt blowing under I made some long sand sausages out of old denim and they work a treat as we exit via the side door.
We make them from scratch - cut the sheets of metal into strips with a guillotine after applying a thin double-sided tape for extra hold then our son (single dad) has made a special bench to hold the straps while he adds the button magnets . This gives him some income and a royalty since he came up with the idea. The magnets come from China. Quite a lot of work actually.
Hello David, I am in the UK - I will try and source these materials from the builders yard but would you tell me please what is the full and correct name for the radiant barrier and magnetic strap?
@@shdwhealr yep agree just buy magnets on eBay ….2 part epoxy resin …..attach to a sheet metal strip and ta daaa. Shipping from Australia to the UK would be a barstard 😂
nice idea, i guess single magnets would work also. What to do about the air leak above the roller? I'm not sure how to tackle that one maybe some kind of strip with bristles.
I was trying to think how to seal the big gap between the building and the top of the roller door as well. Buy some thick rubber mat from Bunnings and attach it to the underside of the top opening with the rubber just touching the roller door when it is down. When it goes up, the rubber will be pushed up a bit as the door circumference gets bigger, but it will still be a good seal. Brush would work but much more expensive than cheap rubber from Bunnings.
Do some research on insulation and how to stop radiant heat - A radiant barrier is the only way to actually stop heat other types stop it for a short time but actually store it in their mass. www.shedinsulationdiy.com
What sort of R value are you able to get with that? I'm currently looking at roller doors. The insulation value they offer is R4, I'm hoping to do better than that.
I'm new to this, it would be great if you explained what foil and straps you are using and where we buy them from.
www.shedinsulationdiy.com its all on there for you regards Peter
Hi David, when you eventually monitor our comments, can you please let us all know where you got the magnetic straps from.

What exactly are the straps you're using
Keep going David. Would love to see some solutions for top of roller... brushes or large rubber flap type thing
I tried coming up with a cheap solution, unfortunately 90degree bushes are very expensive. $250 per door.

No need to worry about that it wont make much difference once you stop the radiant heat which is the biggest problem Peter Shedinsulationdiy

I'm trying to figure out how to stop noise coming in from outside.....
Would this technique work well for keeping heat in? (In addition to seals)
Yes
I take it these are magnetic strips? Sounds very expensive. How did you insulate the huge gap at the outside top of the door?
no need to do than it makes little difference
no mention of where to purchase the straps and barrier?
The straps are easy to make, get 1 inch wide metal straps and bulk button magnets. Put a button magnet about every 8 inches on the strap.
Where do you get the straps from with the magnets?
What is the R rating for this kind of insulation?
@@jesusgonzalez8437 It can't be much because it's only a radiant barrier. There is no insulation. This would probably reduce wind infiltration.

Yeah I've seen some of this stuff and the r value is like R1. Probably works better as a sound deadening material.

Why use an uninsulated roller door instead of an INSULATED garage door?
That's a lot of work for very little return.
