Hey guys! I put together some footage from this year's (2019) Desert 100 race in Odessa, WA. My GoPro let me down once again and died just after and hour into the race. It's unfortunate because my second lap was ON FIRE and I was really hoping to show you guys. I still captured some fun moments though!
This was my first year racing the 100 miles! I knew that second lap was probably going to suck and it truly did haha. I finished in 4 hours and 12 minutes (I think I spent 6 to 8 minutes in the line up before crossing the finish line) to finish the 100 mile.
The full length, uncut versions are available on my Patreon page.
Holy hell that dude almost took you out in the first 10 seconds of the race!
Can 5.34 drive well?
That looked totally intentional to spook the girl
Your positive and enthusiastic attitude and personally for the sport and fellow riders is inspiration for all that ride !! Keep ripping Meg
I totally saw you and thought, “Holy crap! I think that was Megs Braap!” I had to check the results to make sure but it was totally you!? Awesome job! I just wish I could have gotten your autograph!
Hi Megs. I last raced this race 10 years ago. What a fun race it is. We had the fortune of running it in the dry with 1 foot deep silt beds. We also had a lot more technical stuff and funnels to go through. Anyways, enough about that, I saw your video come up and had to watch it. I've seen some of your videos in the past but this one struck a special spot for me. Nice pace and great job with no goggles. I remember getting passed by the overall leaders a lap in and I was absolutely blown away at how fast they were riding. I will live vicariously through you. I don't think my body will tolerate desert racing anymore.
Meg you are both a beauty and beast! Keep rocking it and showing us guys how its done!
Thanks a lot Mike!
Love watching your races! Thank you for proving time and time again that women are just as competitive in this sport as men are. You rock!
We get such a great feel for the sport from your videos. Keep having fun!
Your videos are so intense to watch, holy crap! Your riding blows my mind, you’re SO good. Much respect to you for your riding skill, remembering to wipe the lens mid-race, and for the positive pep talks you give yourself. I hope your goggles work next time!
Thanks man! I always appreciate the positive feedback! I was thinking of you guys while I was out there racing. I knew the lens was probably getting coated so I did my best to keep it clean :).
What an absolutely bonkers goat romp of a race... i was fully clenched just watching! Wishing you had roll-offs the whole time... incredible riding. Truly inspiring (and scary) stuff!
Thank you! I was wishing I had roll offs as well. Maybe next time! Although if I show up with roll offs, it'll be dry and dusty...
100 miles of whoops and rocks, that's a brutal course. Camera flattens out how gnarly it really is. Good job Megs!
DAMN, you were tearing it up... I was on the edge of me seat all the way through that! :D
I raced in the second heat what an amazing day it was with the perfect amount of moisture so it wasn't too Dusty or too muddy it was a really great day I'm glad you were there
Agreed! I expected way deeper mud with the rain all night but it was PRIMO riding condition.
What a crazy race! You go megs. Killing it
It's sooo nuts! Definitely the craziest race of the year every year. Thanks man!
I just recently subscribed to your channel and all I can say is WOW! Great riding. My girls are just beginning to ride and I think we’ve found their inspiration 👍😁 YOU ROCK.
OMG!! I wish I could have made this! You rode amazing and your comments of surprise at different spots in the trail are exactly where I would have been saying them too. Whao, crap.. LOL!! Awesome race!
100% Beast mode engaged! Killin it! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Wow!!, Congratulations on a great race. Soo awesome to you your race footage again. Really cool to see you tool through the pack. Pass after pass, hopefully many of those passes were people that have been talking smack on you recently.
Great job Meggs!!
Thanks for the support Phillip! I had a ton of fun and it definitely felt great to get out and race again. It's been a while. I felt fast and fresh out there so it was a good confidence booster!
I have watched this vid 4 times now. Watching her tackle the hill at the 4:00 mark was spectacular.
Awesome vlog. Such a strong rider. Above the average, no doubt. Dig your commentary. Makes the watcher understand the terrain and situation better. Get it girl.
you tore off a tear off just as I was about to complain!! thank you!! haha
Awesome video! Really cool watching everyone take all the different lines. Great ride!
You just keep impressing us megs great job
Thanks as always Steve!!
That start was crazy... I’m sure there must have been a few close calls.. loved watching you pass so many of these riders..
Oh yes, I think a lot of racers wrecked off the start. It's nuts! I like to take it easy off the start. I always tell myself that I have plenty of time to catch up to anyone who is slower. The race isn't won in the beginning but it can be lost in the beginning...
Nice save at 24:38! 😎
Clearly one of those "I almost died" moments in my book 🤣
Hahah yep! Thank you!
Great to see you run your own race, was great to watch.
Way to go, Megan! You wanted it more than guy in front of you. Also, way to go on keeping your GoPro clean. Btw, you should try a pair of Stegz Pegz. They really help prevent arm pump, especially when pounding through whoops or on hard accelerations. I know they are expensive, but I made my own with some aluminum plating and a couple of skate board wheels.
Megan! Kicking ass, picking 'em off. That was exciting!
He’s wearing a snowsuit!!!! 🤩 That was awesome to watch, it looked brutal and with no goggles! You’re an animal Megs!! 🤙✌️
AWESOME job Megs..!!! Well Done !!!
Guys can learn a lot from u megs ,, not just from advanced skills but attitude as well ,,, keep rippin, from Australia.....
I’m watching your vids for the pre-pre race phase. I think I wanted to be critical of line choice, but I really can’t, your line selection is really solid!
Meg was in Odessa!
Looks a little wet for the desert. Also looks like a really fun event!
I just moved two hours away from Odessa and had no idea that this was a thing. Can hardly wait to race it next year.
Djeeezz! You're a fast fighter, girl! A beautiful flow! I love watching your videos.
Thank you!
I kept waiting for the wipeout that would send u to the hospital. Way too fast for me girl. You’re amazing.
THANK YOU - VERY EDUCATIONAL & ENTERTAINING !
Frickin awesome! Meg you were tearing it up! I wanna do it! Better get my condition up to snuff....
Good job out there megs I blew my suspension and hit a rock and landed on my hip when I was out there!
Awe I'm sorry to hear that!
Ah man! This was my first year where I didn't either hurt myself or my bike. Second one I finished the 100 mikes though. You gonna be back next year? 50th annual is gonna be a big one!
I haven't rode in 22 years and bought one of biggest bikes you can ride on motocross or endro 450! I use to ride 250 in the 90s track and trail but wow I ate shit ...I need to ride more and exercise totally want to go back to the desert 100.. but I'm gonna ride alot more and train for it.
@@randystebbins8925 a 450 is a hell of a lot of bike for that race. my first two years I was on a 450 after last year I said screw it, sold it and bought a 250f and havent regretted it at all. The fatigue from trying to wrestle the 450 around for 4-5 plus hours is just way too much and I spent all year in the gym training
@@jblob5764 I rode a 250 Honda four stroke in the iron man wasn't bad pretty easy I'm use to two stroke back i the day i had a yz 250 and rode also 125 cr in 94 but this new 450 is wow I've gotta train for it I love the power but it kicks my butt
I have arm pump just from watching! Great Job!
Me too..lol my old hands would be numb after the first 10 minutes.
Thanks!
Great job Megs 👍.
Don't think I could hang onto a bike that long!
Increíble Megs te felicito un ejemplo a seguir me has dejado impresionado.
Great footage as always!,
If the gopro hadn't of failed and had infinite batt, what size gb required for whole race on gopro?
Looking for info before buying a camera 👍😘
Go Megs, you are smokin those dudes:0
Wow, you're an animal!!! Great job Megs!
Thank you!
That is a long race. It looks like a race from one state to another. How long the gas last on your motorcycle?
I watched every second of that video. You are an amazing rider. How long have you been into the dirt bike/enduro?
Heck yeah! Thanks Luke! It's so good to know that people do actually enjoy the long videos once in a while :). I've been riding for 11 years now. I didn't start really riding and pushing myself until about 2012 but I've been pretty focused on it since then!
Awesome. I started riding on a Honda Z50 monkey bike when I was about 7 years old. My dad had to cut some foam off the seat to try to get it low enough lol. Had my first taste of the 2 stroke life a few years later with a well used Yamaha GT 80, then my favourite of all was the 1983 YZ 80. Upgraded a couple of years later with a 1990 model RM 125. They’re yellow because they’re made out of cheese.
Got out of riding due to life and financial stuff for a good 15 years until my grandma left me some money in her will. I bought a very cheap Husky WR 300 and tried enduro single track for the first time. It’s one hell of a learning curve and so much fun. The bike has always been extremely tall but I think we’re getting used to each other. Have a great day and thanks for the reply.
Every once in a while, as I'm tearing up the trails, I think I want to start racing our local hare scrambles. Then I get passed like I'm standing still and I realize that I'm still slow as shinola.
Hey the best way to get better is to try. That's why there are C or Beginner classes. Everyone starts with their first event at some point as a rider. Helps you see what other people around your pace are doing as well as the ones who are slowly getting away and gives a chance to learn better technique
Start racing. You'd be amazed at how quickly you start getting faster. My skills started increasing exponentially when I got into motocross
I was getting arm pump at the 10min mark - did you not have tear offs Megs?
At 10m in I got arm pump , At 17m in I got tunnel vision !!!!.... SO I sat back and let you ROCK THE RIDE !!!!....
I won't lie, I was definitely getting tunnel vision near the end!
Glad to see your BACK AT IT again !!!!.... RIDE ON MEGS !!!!....
You make it look so easy, good job keep it up👍👍💪💪, respect 💪💪👍👍👏👏
Thank you!! :)
just added you to my patreon account. love your vids, and look forwards to many more. braap on!
Glad you were there, it was just perfect.
Heck yeah! The conditions were unreal!
That looked tough! Well done.
Thanks! It was definitely a tougher race than most. 100 miles was hard on the bike and body!
Is this race still run in 3 loops starting from a central location? I remember in the 60s each loop wad about 30 plus miles. The coarse looks similar.
No, it is 2 laps of the same course. Each lap is 50 miles long.
Thanks for the cool video I really like to watching you ride. Your videos are always instructional and just great riding videos. I’m using your videos to get better on rocks and objects and they are helping. Let me when you do a double blip when riding toys the object when you get 2 foot away or so popped to give it a little gas then let off the gas and let the clutch out correct then when you’re bouncing on that rock, you do the same thing again little gas, let off the throttle, but go to clutch go up and over
Sick Speed shredder. Picking them off one at a time. Do you train outside of shedding? Wadz
Taking out Zebras like a Lion!
Megs....You're a monster on that bike!!
Thanks man! I'm very comfortable on this bike for sure!
@@megs_braap Maybe when I move to BC, You can teach me how to ride.
great stuff, enjoyed it. thanks for posting.
Flying without wings, Meg!! Bleep your own words? LOL!
Haha I try not to post swearing. But in a race like this, I can't help myself sometimes.
Well Done ! You were permanently passing riders the whole time :)
The zebra man hahaha. Amazing riding looks insanely exhausting
Almost had a Joe Rockstar moment at 24:37 nice save!!!
Hahah thanks!
Loved it, thanks for sharing...🏍🧡💯😎👍👍🍺
No problem, thanks for watching!
@25:03 arm pump has got the best of me, had to click pause and will finish watch in the morning after a good nights sleep, I am whooped out.....
😂😂😂 Hahaha awesome.
I am in shock
Anti fog goggle lense and roll offs with fishing line looped around the roll off canisters so the roll off doesn't stick to the lense will solve all your goggle problems I raced enduros over ten years and that setup never let me down no goggles didn't seem to slow you down at all outstanding job.
Yeah I should probably look into using roll offs. I always run dual pane lenses because I can't stand fogging... But I don't race often so if my goggles get muddy I usually just stop and clean them.
Keep it up Mel ! Thanks for your videos 👍
Thanks for watching!
This made me miss my racing days. Guess another dirtbike will be in my future unless I get a dual sport instead of a supermoto
Heck yeah man!
13:40 "come on zebra man!". I was Ling OL
Ironwomen Megan in beast mode again does a 100-mile race with no googles on. 👍 Unreal
Hahaha, well they got covered in mud! I didn't have a choice 😂. I did get a fresh pair when I came through for my second lap though.
Love watching your vids.
Okay, So what happend to the goggles? Did you have tearoffs? pull offs? Any way to clear your goggles or did they all fail? that just seems very dangerous. Being that you ride often and have much more experince than I do what when into your goggle choices?
Tear offs are not allowed in this race but roll offs are. I don't use roll offs for trail riding so I didn't have any. This race was a last minute decision for me. I took my goggles off because they were covered in mud and couldn't see.
@@megs_braap Got ya. Thanks for the reply.
Sick race Megs did you Win? Looks like you were putting on a clinic till the end of this videshow. Keep'n me hang'n with the finish.lol..
Hey! I got second place in my class and 50 something overall I think!
@@megs_braap you are amazing! But I'm not surprised. I've learned you can't judge by color or gender in my old age. It's only the size of the heart! Congrats and thanks for the moto-vation!
don't follow kept going forward ! Meg well ridden from Oz
Thank you!
Amazing race. What a nice place! Congratulations Megs. When will you came to Brasil? We have some of the biggest enduro biker’s meeting in the world. We apprécier have your presence here.
now at 18:50 I am riding with my left eye closed, c'mon Megs!!! TEAR OFF PLEASE!!!
I don't think the camera is inside her goggles haha
@@chaziztheman Her GoPro has tear offs too, she is "fancy!!"
@@unoefxz ahh, didn't realize that haha. Thanks for not being a douche about it. That's kinda rare in the comment section lmao
How are your arms after that one? Great stuff.....
My arms, back, legs, neck, hands and pretty much everything else were completely mangled after this race haha.
What was your tire psi during this race?
Brooke Day I don’t run tubes in my tires. I use nitromousses. If I’d have been running tubes I’d have had flat tires.
Nice riding Megs! What class are you riding? Passing everyone wow!
Thanks Steve! I was riding in the women's 100 mile class.
Doin great mate good riding 👍
My congratulations!
it was cool!)
Thanks a lot!
Imagine being a Deer somewhere in that field only to realize there is a massive herd of dirt bikers headed your direction! RUN!!!!! lol
ripping! nice flow
Thanks George!
2 weeks away from this year's event, I won't be racing but will be doing the poker run with a bunch of friends
Amazing!!! Did you win?
I got second place in my class.
11:03 "What's the hold up"? Ha ha.
Nice pace
Are you no longer riding for Husqvarna?
That is a Husqvarna she's on it's just blacked out so I'd guess not since she just raced on a Honda and I doubt they'd be cool with that ..
Yeah, kind of what I was thinking. I’d be curious to know why. I thought it was pretty cool that she got to ride for them. Pretty awesome on the channel.
Good job meg.Hey don't they still make goggle tear offs?
Yes they do but they are for closed forces were they can be picked up after the race, this is on privately owned land and there not allowed.
They aren't allowed in this race. They allow roll offs though. Maybe next year I'll try them.
I respect your skills.
That dude that almost took you at in the beginning...Holy shit!!!
Yeah he was a wee bit out of control haha.
Great race.
Thanks!
all I can say is wow
Thanks for cleaning your visor!
cleanin the lense while overpassing made easy
Are you attending 2020?
