When I was learning to ride my CR250 , I kept to to the right denting my expansion chamber and braking my front clutch lever. I can;t remeber how many times I had the pipe cut and welded and than finally replaced by a new one. I finally bought a chrome plated expansion chamber and decided if I was going to fall over it would be to the left . i finally stopped following over.
6th :P While you're making those adjustments using the front brake, are you still applying the same amount of throttle? so it's throttle + front brake?
Good question. I’m backing off the throttle as I get more aggressive on the front to initiate more lean angle. But backing off very easy, not just letting off the throttle completely
@@AjCatanzaro Thank you, AJ. So in a deep sand turn where backing off the throttle can cause the front to dive in the sand, does it makes sense to give a steady throttle during the turn (after the braking zone ends) while applying the front brake?
Exactly what i needed. I can't wait to get my RM125 out and try using the front brakes to cornering and learn to ride a rod. That's something I always struggled with. Also i have to be better to lean the bike. It's not a big issue on a MC but i struggling with it on a MX. Good videos 👍 keep it up 🥳
Good video, I need to take your class! I've been caution flagging at the Nationals and Amateur Races (High Point, Red Bud and Crawfordsville) and I noticed the pro's use that front brake a lot and the majority of amateurs don't use it at all. Your video helped me understand the need and the benefit of using it and now I want to get good at it. Thanks Aj!
I have a hard time believing that the majority of amateurs don't use their front brake. It seems like everyone would be blowing through the turn at the end of a straight.
@@jridenour31 It might be fun to for AJ to have the students do some exercise and then place himself so he can watch that right hand. All the pro's use one finger on the clutch and one on the brake (I'm ole's school (vet) and we use two or three fingers back in the day, no more) the pro's they modulate that clutch finger like it is a throttle. Cheers!

Yep, but if it’s tight enough to the bike it doesn’t matter if your inside foot is scraping on rut! Now there’s some situations where if the rut was created by a slow rider, the inner wall of the rut will be very steep, which maybe then you would need to get inside leg high and tight. But the more you lean, the more your footpeg should eat away at the inner wall of the rut
He would never tell someone not to use it, but he stopped using them because of the limit that it put at the back of the helmet in the attack position. There might be more to it, but I know I've heard him say that.
@@kings17court I still use mine even though it does feel like your head is fighting it, but I REALLY like the idea of protecting my neck so it’s one of those things that doesn’t bother me too much since it’s really good protection. I’d say for anyone who is not a pro rider racing for money that using a neck brace is a great idea.
@@spreaddeezhazelnutz7511 I'm with you. A lot of pros have made the decision to not wear them, but there are some elite pros that do. Villopoto ALWAYS did and still does. You don't get much better, or accomplished, than Villopoto. Musquin and Barcia are 2 others. I like for my son to use it, because I too think it's good protection that makes sense. But it's a personal decision.
I stand somewhere in the middle with them. Same with knee braces. I just had a good friend break his c5 c6 and was extremely lucky he didn’t get paralyzed. He didn’t have a neck brace on. In fact, his doctor said that based on how his head was impacted by the bike that ran him over, If he had a neck brace on he would’ve been internally decapitated and 100% paralyzed. The same obviously cannot be said for other types of impacts where the neck brace will save you. My view is the same on knee braces. If I had knee braces on this weekend when I crashed into a vertical embankment and crushed my leg in between the bike and the dirt, I am confident the carbon braces would’ve snapped my leg. But my softer foam guards saved me. In that situation. I personally feel like I’m a more safe rider when I have the freedom and flexibility on the bike, which is why I choose no brace. However, I wouldn’t push that view on someone else. I just urge people who wear a neck brace to make sure it fits properly so they can actually get into the correct stance on the bike
@@AjCatanzaro Thanks for sharing!! I agree that more people need to learn how to properly fit neck braces in order for the neck braces to be helpful instead of harmful :)
