When did John Waite first realise his voice was his ticket to the big time ? Talk about a natural gift.
The picture of the band @ 3:00 Second from the left is Jonathan Cain, who would shortly after join Journey and go on to the rock and roll hall of fame.
The background singer in the striped shirt is Melanie Chartoff, who was in the comedy tv show Fridays, and later was the voice of Didi Pickles in Rugrats.
Melanie was also a very underrated total SMOKESHOW
I learned something new today. I had no idea she was a singer, I just remember Fridays. Larry David and Michael Richards do too.
No Angela! no no no no no . This is not any 60’s throwback! This is pure 1979!
The lead singer is John Waite. When the Baby’s’ broke up, John started a solo singing career in the late 80’s, I think. His best known song as a solo artist was “ Missing You”. Much later he joined the band Bad English, and became their lead singer, they had one hit song a power ballad called “When I See You Smile” so beautiful. Will make you cry. 😢😢
Angela, the Baby’s’ had a collection of hits in the 70’s. They can crush. Plus give a listen to “Missing You” & “ When I See You Smile” (in that video John let’s his hair grow out, may be unrecognizable. Until he starts singing. Hehehe.
Great Reaction! I’m so happy you liked this track!
Have a great day. ❤❤
More Babys: "Isn't It Time" "Head First"
The 70s was absolutely the best decade for all music genres
Criminally underrated band.
Such an underrated band with so much talent John Waites voice is amazing.
" Isn't it time " is another super track by this vastly underrated group. Many great songs
And "Head First"
Masterpiece.. better than this
Ascoltato 3 volte
It did well in Australia. Number one of the charts here, remember it well, great song.
The backup singers take this to another level!!
John Waite (lead singer) had a huge solo hit in the 80’s with “Missing You”, plus he was lead singer of the band Bad English in the late 80’s and early 90’s. And keyboard player for the Babys, Johnathan Cain, would go on to be the keyboard player for Journey.
Beat me to the punch!
Thanks for the info, I didn't know John Waite was in the Babys. Till now. 🙂
I heard johnathan recommended to change or recommend some songs to produce a different sound for the Babys. Then John Waite recommended that he needed to find another band to play in.
Interesting about John Cain. I saw the Baby's open for Cheap Trick and Journey at a summer festival at the L.A. Coliseum in the late 70's I believe.
This is Okay.. I think Mr. John Waite's "Missing You" is a great song; he states that he is not Missing her, but he is fooling himself.. ☺ ♠ W.G.
That voice!
I will always remember this one.
The Babys opened for Rick Derringer at a little arena near my hometown. Didn't know the Babys or particularly cared. I went to get beer when they started their set. When I came back they were just starting this. It was amazing. Been a fan since.
The Baby's are so overlooked!
Another Babys hit with a similar vibe that you might like is _Isn't It Time._
Yes...isn't it time is my favorite
Midnight Rendezvous is another rocker!
John Waite has one of those distinct voices that you can't mistake like Lou Gramm of Foreigner or Steve Perry of Journey 💯🎤🎸🎵🎶
I like their backup singers. They also add greatly to the Baby’s song “Isn’t it Time”
If you do another Baby's reaction, the song "Isn't it Time" is a must...
Soundtrack to my life
John Waite also sang Change. It was on the Vision Quest movie soundtrack. One of my faves. I also liked Restless Heart alot too.
That is John Waite. He had a pretty good solo career in the mid 80s also. Been awhile since I’ve heard this one. Thanks for the memories young lady. Good job
This type of music is sadly gone now.
Back up singers are always underated like on drives seat by sniffin the tears
That backup singer was amazing. I remember noticing her on the radio the first time.
While it’s Annie Bertucci in the video (a GREAT vocalist in her own right) the audio of that part is from the studio recording and that was sung by Marti McCall.
@@BoltManiac, Marti was one of three backup singers on this song. Wikipedia credits Myrna Mathews, one of the other two backup singers, as the “lead” on this song.
@@straycatttt2766wiki is wrong on that. Trust me
One of my favorite love songs of all time. Love the passion.
One of the best songs of the '70s and my favorite song of the babys John Waite lead singer was great fantastic
Boy, that takes me back.
I owned this "cassette" back in high school. Props to the back up singers that did an incredible job!
"give me your love" best Baby's song
Wow, that song brought back some memories! Probably been 30+ years since I've heard it.
The guy playing the piano is Jonathan Cain. He left the Baby’s and went to Help discover Journey!
You would love the song "Isn't It Time" by The Babys. That one is just as good.
Baby, there are so many great Baby's songs. Midnight Rendezvous, Sweet Seventeen, Postcard, Turn And Walk Away, She's My Girl, Back On My Feet Again. And the whole John Waite Ignition LP is amazing!! Neil Geraldo!!
When I first heard this on the radio, minutes later the brand new 8-track tape was in my player in my 1969 Mustang. Great song on a great album!
her voice makes the song.this is 70s
John Waite was in the band Bad English..
Love this song!👍
You should react to "Isn't It Time". You would love it.😊
yeah good song as well.
Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips also joined. Journey lead guitarist Neal Schon and drummer Deen Castronovo also joined. Meanwhile, Greg Rolie and Ross Valory formed The Storm. They broke up in 1995.
'no matter what'
Other "The Babys" songs I recommend: "Back On My Feet Again", "Turn and Walk Away", and "Midnight Rendezvous". Also, John Waite's (lead singer) solo song "Change".
My favorites from The Baby's were "Head First" & "Back On My Feet Again".
One of those rare occasions where the backing group nearly outshine the band.
I haven’t heard this song in years. Thanks for taking me back. What a great song.
I was 17 when this came out. I still love this song.
I forgot how good this tune is!
The great John Waite. John had a solo career after The Baby’s, then later formed a group with Neil Schon of Journey called Bad English.
The Babys were very underrated and this is one of their best along with Isn't It Time. Another great review Angela!
Loved this thanks for posting, I was watching “Bridges at Toko Ri” and one scene had this playing on the radio in the background and my closed caption picked it up , so now I know and here I am , thanks again
Head First was my fav Baby's song back in the day
I have all the Baby’s albums on Vinyl.
One of my favorite bands. Union Jacks was a fantastic album.
Finally someone reacts to The Babys! Splendid!
Jonathon Cain is the keyboardist on the Babys. He went on to greater fame with Journey where he co-wrote many of their hits.
Great fun fact! Thx- I didn’t realize that- and I ABSOLUTELY love Journey!!
Just as interesting, lead singer John Waite, along with Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain and Journey guitarist Neil Schon were in a band called Bad English.
Cain would appear on their subsequent album. Studio musician Kevin Kelly played piano on this track.
John Waite is the singer, and after he went solo, after The Baby's scored a few hits with " Missing You ".. If you've ever seen the movie, Vision Quest.. he has a popular song in the soundtrack called "Change".. check out the movie video.
Saw them live around 70-1980..... good live band
wow this is a nice surprise.. not many react to the Baby's
At times you discover songs that are amazing and i know there are many more waiting to be discovered.
Angela - Watching all of these old hits from the 70s brings back so many great memories, but watching you react to them is just GOLDEN!!
Been a big fan of John Waite since the Babys and his solo career. Was lucky enough to see John around 2005 when he did an acoustic tour. It was in a very small club in Napa, CA with only about 100 people attending and it was just John and a guitar player. He did a wonderful acoustic version of Missing You and several Baby's songs. It was truly a magical night.
Saw them in high school
I seem to recall blasting that song in my first car around 1979 or so 😎
As others have already said, lead singer was John Waite, who had a successful solo career after the Babys. Could you react to "Back on my Feet Again" (also by the Babys)?Baby's? Also, "Midnight Rendezvous?"
This song is so great, I got more of an 80s feeling. But one thing is for sure , they don't make music like this anymore, we must treasure it.
Love this song. The bassist Ricky Phillips is now with Styx.
"Head First" is a real banger.
Wow, great choice, the Babys were excellent and lead singer, John Waite is a legend, I saw him in the Babys, in Bad English and solo several times, the man can flat out sing and is a fine song writer. From the Babys try Midnight Rendezvous, Looking for Love and Dying Man. They Rock! Enjoy pretty lady, you brighten my day. 🎵
"ISN'T IT TIME"! PLEASE..
I'm 60 play it since day one
Saw them in concert with the Kinks and Pat Travers in Portland , Oregon was an awesome concert.
My fave too! The second guy in the 1st pic is Jonathan Cain who has now been in Journeys band for 40 years now!
had a solo hit that reached #1 on Billboard. was also in a band called Bad English. name is john Waite.
John Waite. He had a solo hit with Missing You. He also sand in a band called Band English with When I See You Smile
Love your reactions Angela, not only do you pick cool music but YOU are Absolutely Adorable !! Your smile your movements make it impossible not to watch
Give "Head First" by the Baby's a listen too 👍🏽
Great request Chris.
Thank you Angela! An underrated band - that gets too little play.
Wow. Literally have not heard this song in over 40 years. Here's another one for you from around the same time: Charlie Dore singing "Pilot of the Airwaves" Ignore the fact her name is Charlie, she'd be a great choice for Female Friday. ua-cam.com/video/SGKrgJZhpzk/v-deo.html
John Waite is one of those guys that has a classic voice, when you hear it, you know it. Fun fact, the last I heard, he was dating Alison Krauss, great Blue Grass singer/fiddle player/all around artist/massive Grammy winner. They did a re-make of one of his old songs and it is awesome. Can't remember which one off the top of my head though. Looked it up: "Missing You" is the name of the song. Great song of his to do a reaction to also.
John Waite has a great voice and with the backing vocals wow! Thank you Angela love it !
Love, love that song!!! Thank you!!! Haven't seen anyone else do the Babys. Been waiting. Now you must hear their other hits Midnight Rendezvous and Isn't it Time. He had some solo hits also with Change being the big hit. 🙂
I love the Babys. This is the first song of theirs I ever heard, back in ‘79. I wore out this album, Head First, as well as their previous album, Broken Heart. John Waite has one of my favorite rock voices of all time.
My first concert was in 1980. The Baby's and Journey. Can't get much better
I met the blond background singer not long ago... very sweet lady... this is a great tune... thanks for sharing.
Just love your reactions and your dancing in a chair hahaha great just great
The Baby’s had several hits. ❤️ them. John Waite is awesome!
Awesome song I remember this song from the late 70s when I was a kid , wow they don’t make fun songs like this anymore !
Aahhh John Waite! The baby’s timeless!👌🥰👉♥️👍I still have this album 💿
I have always loved this song by The Babys. The singers , the piano , all of it. Lead vocals and part time bass player John Waite - Next by them - "Isn't It Time" Another great love song . - Then for more throwback sound "Beach Baby" by First Class.
I luv this song!
His name is John Waite and he went solo after the Babys. He sang a song called "Missing You' which was hugely popular (to the point of being overplayed on the radio!). That may be where you recognize his voice from.
LOVE THIS SONG!!
Thank you so much for not pausing during the song!
Essa foi a melhor época das músicas boas.
The Baby's singer is John Waite who had a big 80's hit with Missing You. He then was in Bad English with Baby's keyboardist Jonathan Cain who had joined Journey and then Bad English with Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Baby's bassist Ricky Phillips was also in Bad English and has been in Styx for awhile now. Bad English drummer Deen Castronovo ended up playing in Journey and sings and plays in his band Revolution Saints.
Wow!!! Never heard them or this song!! Superb!! I enjoyed it. Great voices!!
Isn't it time for The Babys "Isn't it Time" from 1977!!!! 🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, thank you
Yes, major classic throwback- iconic! Love it- as you know by now, that’s John Waite singing-💖
@@mattbecham597 Hey there Matt! Great request!
Great reaction I saw these guys in 1980 as an opening act for journey and man I really liked their sound they had a number of great songs me and baby was another as I saw most have said isn't it time another, is back on my feet again, and midnight rendezvou, thanks for your reaction keep spreading the music around God-bless.
I love this song...try Isn't It Time...it's great too
tremendous song
I went to my very first Journey concert when the baby's open for them. I left there a huge Journey/Steve Perry fan. These guys were good. Several huge songs.
I saw The Baby’s open for Journey here in Chicago at The Rosemont Horizon back in ‘80
How about "When I see you Smile" by Bad English (John Waite)
The Baby's were Tour February 1979 promoting their album Head First, they played at Cobo Arena February 16th and the 17th with Alice Cooper!!! I worked at a Head Shop back in the mid 70's until Mid 80's, (The Station )which also served as a gas station, I just filled up a car and on my way into building i had my head down counting how much money I had on me,all of a sudden I literally ran into John Waite of the Baby's ,almost knocking him down, shook hands and all was good,he had bought an Ivory coke tooter, which also was a earring!! Thought I would share my story!!
John had a great voice with this band !! they had a few good ones ! Cheers !
Your best pick
