Right. Matera came up around Sonny Franzese and was in his crew for a long time. Always at Franzese's side. Jimmy Nap was a Genovese and was said at one time to have the biggest book in the US. Neither one of them were ever Gambinos as far as I know. Matera was killed by the Colombos in Florida in 1981 and Napoli died a Genovese.

I had heard, maybe Michael told the story, that when Johnny Irish disappeared, someone called Sonny to tell him and he got a bit upset about it. Someone asked him what was wrong and Sonny said "They just killed Johnny"

Tony, Johnny Irish Matera was my dad's cousin. Gradma Materas sister Angie had johnny out of wedlock. I met him only once when I was 14 at our house in Hackensack NJ. He wore an olive green suit and sunglasses. He got his name from the green suits he wore. Family lore says he led FBI unknowingly to a meeting where Carmine Persico was. That was the reason he disappeared as his bodyguard Billy had taken him somewhere one last time. My paternal grandfather associated with these mob guys as they ran the ILGWU and grandpa a union delegate had a garment factory.

Not sure if you ever spent time in the Gold Coast Restaurant in Hollywood Beach? I spent a lot of time in the Gold Coast in my 20's. My dad's joint was right across the street in the Hollywood Beach Hotel. I didn't know Johnny Matera but I came up with the crew that did the work.
