I use Honey Teck and I really like it when applied but after one winter, the color faded so much than it looks almost like the treated brown lumber you buy at your renovation store. It cover well the old green treated lumber also. The second year, I tried the Jarreg Brown and it was quite dark brown and it accentuate the wood node or default as it stain darker in those place. After a winter, it looks like cedar color and much more uniform. I will probably applied every 2 years ...it’s quite expensive per gallon but the only fact it doesn’t required any sanding, it’s great. If one day, I’m am done with it...we will switch to composite.

April 29, 2021: BEWARE! I have used Cabot (Cordovan Brown: solid stain and other products) for 15-years with no problems. I decided to do some touch-up and bought a gallon. The color was WAY off and didn't match at all. I contacted Cabot and they said "we changed the formula." They would not give me the old mixing formula ... so, I would have to re-stain 250 feet of heavy redwood fence and 300 sq feet of deck. This "change of formula" is a tactic to sell more product. Nicely, Home Depot was able to exactly match my color (Behr) so I'm going with that product. I'm no longer a "loyal Cabot customer!"

Cabot has a VOC formula with a blue top on can, everyone says it's not like the regular top can...maybe it was the blue top u bought?

    • @ElectrologyNow

@@kellie5434 I wish that were the case, and thanks for your kind comment. (The stain you're talking about is a clear stain, and I have used it for redwood.)
Actually, I was in contact with Cabot. They said they "changed the color formula" and they would not give me the formula for the "old color." Basically, “screw you!”
Amazingly, I went to Home Depot with a color sample from a tiny piece of the deck ... and, they matched the color exactly ... mixed up their Behr Solid Acrylic Stain and I found it to be a perfect match and a high-quality product. Cabot is "off my good guy list" forever. They were no help and couldn't care less about their very loyal customer (for more than 15 years).

I had a similar experience with Cabot Bark. Bought some from Lowes in semi-transparent and it went on like a dark-brown/purple solid stain. No relation whatsoever to the original color.

I have a very old entry way deck that I just coated with the Australian timber oil. The old wood really soaked it up. Used way more than I thought it was going to take. It does look nice and hopefully will extend its life a few more years

@@jcardosa02 it has some color but not dark brown it’s like the product looks but it has a nice shine after you apply 2 coats. Looks like hardwood illusion, it’s been 2 years and I’m applying another cost this year with out sanding it and see how it looks. But I live in Chicago with a deck on the second floor. The top is weathered but underneath where I also applied it looks new still. So I think it just needs a yearly maintenance of one coat I’m not sure but I’m going to use the same one and depending on my siding which is t11 siding I might go with it also and maybe go with sunlit or mahogany flame for the deck so it can match the trim on my windows.

If you put any one of these products on a different wood such as redwood pickets or planks the color will be a couple shades darker.he is using it on light wood so don’t be fooled. if you’re using any other color of wood besides light wood it will be a darker shade.

Yep. I used Jarrah Brown on Doug Fir and it was a nice brown, but on Redwood it is a very dark brown. I think I'll try the honey teak on the redwood to look more like cedar.
