I would use the brush first. Then you don’t have to reach or step on existing stain.

Great technique although Just a tip always check the moisture content of the wood with a pinned moisture meter. Make sure you got below 12% moisture content. Ideally 10% but never above 15% or the stain will not absorb. You will also trap moisture in the deck which shortens the life

Looks like the boards were spaced during installation so when they shrunk the gaps are too big.

Thank you for this video! I have Cabot solid oil-based and haven't used it in a few years, so it is a bit thick. Can I add mineral spirits to thin it out a bit?

Pretty good job. Pretty uniform. Also a fairly crappy color. Not much you can do about that though. Thanks for the video :-)

Unfortunately Cabot does not penetrate the wood as they would lead you to believe. I just stained really dry wood then sanded it off😂

    Why not 2 coats?

wood can only absorb and hold so much stain... a second coat will end up sitting on top of the wood instead of "in" the wood. That will lead to peeling like paint would.

Latex stain does not penetrate wood, especially pressure treated crap wood. Even a thin oil based stain doesn’t penetrate that much unless you’re using soft pine, which would be useless for decking.

Yeah, it's super streaky on the sides, maybe the boards were still wet from pressure treating?

@@travelswithtrekkers1326wrong. He wasn't rude. Just stating his opinion. He didn't attack anyone's character. I also agree with him. I think it looks pretty crappy. Has nothing to do with the way it was applied. It's just that the stain is kind of blah and not his fault.
