  • What's the significance of how Good Night and Good Luck uses a real speech by Edward R. Murrow as it's thematic bookends for its plot? Could it be that director George Clooney is offering us a meditation on the current state of cinema?

The music playing so loudly during this scene distracts from what is a powerful message we seem sadly to have forgotten. And in the forgetting, we have allowed Murrow's words to come perilously close to truth..

Well it was true then too but there is lots of material from films etc. cut and re-edited terribly which not only adds distraction but alters context. I get all sorts of film clips suggest to me on you tube I don't like because I haven't seen the whole film and they lack relevance. Censorship and broadcast standards etc.

Finally got around to watching this and loved it! I haven't seen Good Night and Good Luck, but now I'd like to watch it & read Murrow's entire speech.

The ambient background noise makes this very important message difficult to listen to.

Well "cancel culture" because they knew some shows influenced people communism is just one of many concerns. If people now want to watch politically correct sit coms or superhero films and be ignorant of reality they do so too. How many even know Robert Downey Jr. from this film instead of immediately think of Iron Man when they hear his name either? Now I saw this film in the theatre I guess I was 26 in 2005 but I only saw it because a friend of mine was an extra in it and wanted to go because yes the majority of people think historical and educational material dull by comparison to fictional action adventure etc. likely.
