Austen Salcedo wrote, _"Moral of the story..."_
Do not try and extract a moral from the story. That`s impossible. Instead only try to realise the truth: *there is no story.* Then you will see it is not the story that offers a moral; it is only ourselves.

One day, I was very very young, I hid in the closet because I realized my mother would die someday. I was not crying, I was shocked, so shocked I built everlasting memory of that episode. Power of life can only shine in the darkness of being aware of death. The fact that we desire to live knowing that our body keeps aging, our bonds with people will all be broken, is fascinating. Our intelligence is so delicately balanced, no creature could ever hold the burden of consciousness without something as powerful to balance it: love, curiosity

That’s what you don’t realize, because we cannot know ourselves. We just do. Go with the flow, and everything works. That means letting go. The ship guides itself. When I was eight, I realized for the first time I wasn't going to live forever and that life is just another terminal illness. No matter how perfect or imperfect one lives, it will all be the same in the end. This realization filled me with deep sorrow and hit me with a depression from which I still haven't truly recovered from. I would even say a part of that exuberant kid died that day.
Even though I pushed that thought away and tried suppressing it so I can live like a normal human being, I always end up questioning my existence and never actually lived, just hanging on and getting by. There is no moral to my story, no silver lining. I wish I could say I had found God or a purpose, but it just wouldn't be true, and that's something I have to accept. You just go on breathing until you don't. I do have a lot of admiration for people who continue to go strong despite facing the same dilemma.

I also, have had a cynical and almost nihilistic view point of existence. I truly understand.
At some point however, it finally clicked for me...that life brings on the meaning I assign to it, and I have to strive and work for that meaning. Also, that maybe I have been wrong, this entire time. Maybe, just maybe there is some inherent meaning and truth. Maybe, just maybe, life does not have to be just suffering and sadness.
Yes, we start dying the minute we are conceived...but the flip-side to that coin is that there is time in between those two events, and that I am responsible for what I do in that time. I didn't appear in this life to waste it. I didn't appear in this life to just suffer. I am here to live, to the best of my ability at any given moment, in order to help, live, learn, and love. It may come off as cliche, but there is a lot of truth in that for me.
Hang in there. I believe you can find meaning. You just might have to let go of some attachments to things.

When my father died in England I was living in the states, he was 87 and it wasn’t unexpected or sudden, but a few days after I was sat on my sofa thinking about him and suddenly I felt a reassuring presence around me, and while I have no strong or certain beliefs in what comes after this life or not, I felt absolutely certain it was my dad, I even said out loud “I know you are there” and laughed a little at the thought of it. Of course I can’t say what you experienced, but just maybe it was something similar!

It was very sudden and it felt so divine that my eyes teared up.
After this very sudden thought and feeling, I wondered if he had somehow visited me at that bus stop.
He had been dead for years at that time. It is like what you told in your story.

I see my dad on a bench, rolling a cigarette, laughing and joking with his uncle and other relatives that has left their life behind. They are surrounded by roses and greenery and flowers and now and then he looks down at me making life too serious at times.

Relaying on hope is hopeless, it's just another tweak of the mind to look for something else, a rejection of what is. Believing and hoping are mental escape mechanism, the minds inability to comprehend and accept of what is. There is a meaning and a message in all we encounter and experience. When ones heart is open to what ever happens, there is never any hopelessness or need to create a believe.
The mind works in mysterious ways to find some conceptual key to see fleeting glimpses of our true nature. When you are home, their is no need to create anything anymore. Hope and believe are not needed anymore once we leave the plane of mental delusion. Everything will be clear from the illumination from one's true nature of mind.

Man. Parts of this speech hit hard for me. I've not taken a listen to Alan Watts in quite some time. Several years. Though I did listen to him quite frequently then. The two lectures I just listened to from this channel, I don't think I had heard before.
I've had a difficult go of things for the past 5 to... Well, 20 years probably if I get into technical detail lol. But, starting in late 2018 things started getting really bad - with many similarities to my late teenage years. My parents heavily abusing alcohol and drugs, constant fighting amongst them, with me and my brother caught in the middle. Being involved in their quarrels when we shouldn't have been and sometimes involving ourselves because things were clearly getting completely out of control between them. My dad passed on Xmas Eve 2021. Many health complications. Some no fault of his own, on one hand he adamantly refused to seek help with his medical issues. On another, the standard and quality of care when he did was very subpar. On yet another, his drinking was way out of control and played into his refusal to get medical help as well. Life and the people in it are complicated.
I've since 'gotten over' his death and hold what I feel is an unpopular opinion about the way things went. My mom's health was very poor around that time as well. Though it (and she) has gotten a bit better over time. At least to the point where I'm not constantly worried if she's going to pass out or fall when I'm not there. Or that I might find her laying on the floor when I arrive. Very grateful for that. Though I still worry a lot about her current state, my mind is no longer in constant agony over it.
Shortly after my dad's passing, my grandma's rapid development of dementia became apparent. While struggling with the loss of my father, digging for answers pertaining to the cause of his death, grieving heavily, taking care of my mom and trying to get her the care she needed, I had to step in to help her as well. Going over to fill her new automated medication tray, taking her to her hair appt's... Her car was stolen around that time as well which added a whole new level of stress on everyone. She was eventually blindsided by my aunt who is PoA. She took her on vacation while my uncle and the rest of the family moved all her belongings into a nursing home. Dropped her off there when they returned and that was that.
My mom and I had to continue caring for her because the quality of care there is just sh*t, but my aunt won't hear any of it. And my uncle would never step up to assist us in caring for her to relieve some stress on my mom and I so she could actually get to doctor appt's when she needed to - even while she was still at home.
I've been through points in my life over the past several years where I didn't recognize any of the people, blood relatives, who I consider family. My dad. My mom. My brother even. My aunt. My uncle. My best, and only close friend. I read an article which made me realize that, though they were all still alive, I was grieving over them.
Like I said. It was a lot in a relatively short period of time. Things are still bad, but... better. Life has it's odd ways of working itself out, some way or another.
When you realize and accept that bad things happen, have always happened, and will continue to happen, in a very strange way it makes it easier to deal with and just go about living. Everyone's got things they're going through and reasons behind why they are the way they are, which for the most part we're unable to see. Unless we take the time and show genuine interest to let them reveal their secrets. Or simply sit and listen.
❤ Be kind to others, and to yourself. We're all just out here doing it. Experiencing what it means to be alive. And if things are really difficult right now, have faith and stand strong. No matter how strong the storm is, it doesn't rain forever.

I have a form of social anxiety disorder brought on by the environment I grew up in. My father was verbally abusive to me and to some of my other brothers on a daily basis. It left a mental scar which I carry to this day. I became very self-conscious. I couldn't be natural anymore. Conversations would be tense and awkward with embarrassing silences. People would become uncomfortable around me and begin to avoid me because I'll be busy thinking of what to say next instead of listening to what was being said to me. I'm getting better but I still keep thinking I'm not good enough. I have good days and bad days.
Even on a good day especially when everything is going swell I'll hear my father's voice. And I begin to think that maybe I am a loser.

In the name of Allah, all praise for Allah Who has honored man and has created him in the best of forms.
All praise for Allah Who has endowed man with the ability to speak with his tongue as one of His greatest bounties. I bear witness that there is no God, no Creator, no Sustainer, no all-capable and no all-knowing but Allah, the only God Who has no partner and I bear witness that Muhammed p.b.u is the last and final messenger to mankind, the seal of prophethood until the last day the day of judgment. I bear witness O Allah that you have sent down the last revelation the Quran and through your selected messenger Muhammed p.b.u we mankind have received the message.
God has clearly stated our purpose being here, some will except it and others will arrogantly laugh it off as though it be petty matter.
Allah the All-mighty says in the Quran: And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength. And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me. And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised. 51:56-60
Are you from the ones who can hear, see, contemplate and reflect or from the ones who will leave this world to an eternal hereafter of regret, once our soul leaves our body I swear by Allah there is no return. Its eternal Paradise or eternal Hell may Allah guide us all. Allah says: Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion. Quran 3.185
I bear witness O Allah that I have delivered the message here and everyone who has read this is now responsible for their actions. No one here can say to you O Allah on the day of judgment they did not know. May Allah guide all the lost souls who are marching blindly towards their death with no purpose, ameer. How sad..

@gmoore04 long story short. I was shown the gases and energy that started it all by what I can only say was a star man. As he had the body of a star with a pointy head both front and back. He was warm and welcoming, even funny at times. After showing me thousands or millions of years of creation, he told me there is no heaven or hell. The universe is in all of us and duality rules. When I asked why does there has to be bad or evil, he said without it, there would be no good. It's all action/reaction, push, and pull. We won't remember coming back or all the things we learnt this time so just have fun and live in the moment. Once we die, we become the energy that reforms life. So, to the meaning of life, there is none, so enjoy the time you have. This is the crazy part. When I asked how I would remember all this he told me to watch Avecii last show and left it at that, wouldn't comment on it anymore and when I asked again he said I told you already. So I watched his last show and the name at the top of the stage stood out to me. Anyway that word is from the language of the Fuegians of the southern most tip of Argentina in a place called Tierra del fuego. And what you know, there was, the star man. Look it up and that's who I talked too

Such was the extreme joy of my life during those years that the word suffering did not exist. Had you come to me when I was 30 and asked me about suffering, I would not have replied because of the wonderful state of bliss I was in. Now as from 47, I fell seriously ill and I have spent many years suffering, but the suffering is easing all not all gone for good. So I have had 47 years of bliss, and 16 of suffering, so the majority has been great years.

@A damn smart guy The issue is that during those times I was not aware I had a life. During those years up to the age of 47, I did have some physical problems such as having an inguinal hernia, but not emotional suffering. The truth is that I've never been married, nor have had a girlfriend. So I did not have relations problems that cause emotional problems. Up to that age I trusted everyone, and when I mean everyone, I mean everyone and got on well with everyone. For many of those years, I used to be a university lecturer and got on will all the students, and other university colleagues. I also got on well with my family that is my parents and my three siblings. During those years I was in a wonderful state of bliss. Then the bubble did burst at the age of 47, and then I did have serious emotional problems with my siblings in particular. Suddenly I realized that my sister was sadistic, and later on my best friend was also sadistic. Then my sister wanted to grab all the family money for her and yes I did go through some horrible time due to the animosity that there was amongst my siblings. I also found out that they hated me. I currently suffer from GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), but this has been ameliorating. I do accept that human relations do cause huge emotional problems and consequently suffering. We also get attached to pets and their passing away also causes us suffering. I wish you well.
