    Surprised you advocate a 2.0 or 2.5 liter swap over the 1.6. I went 1.6 L 16V because I had read from others the opposite. Maybe if or when I blow this one up, I’ll look for something beefier.
    Oh, and your tip on buying a donor vehicle rather than parts is an excellent one. I bought a rusted out, low-ish mileage Tracker with a for a grand, pulled the engine, harness, ECU and a few other small parts out of it. I sold it to a pick and pull for $455. My swap was a breeze.

    Thank you for the informative history lesson. I may disagree with the Dodge-Aisin relationship. The first 5.9 3-speed Autos were Mopar 727 Torqueflights, then they went to the Mopar 4-speed overdrive trans. None of these would put up with a Cummins' torque and didn't last. Aisin transmissions (far superior) did not appear in Dodge (Ram) trucks until the last 10 years.

I'm looking to have a little bit of a lift and a bit of a bigger tire. 31" at most. If that. I found a 86 tin top for $5k, but he's an hour away so I've not looked at it yet. It is worthwhile upgrading to the 26 spline front axles if sticking to stock sized tyres and not a huge suspension lift? Do you recommend a parts supplier for this?

    You said Aisin made parts for Toyota, but in reality Aisin is a drivetrain company that Toyota owns. The same as how Jatco trans are owned by Nissan or how GM owned Allison Transmission for the better part of a century.

    • @Zuksoffroad
      @Zuksoffroad  2 місяці тому

      Your generalized statements are inaccurate and out dated. Currently AISIN being part of the Toyota Group means Toyota is a minority owner. I was referring to back when these cars Suzuki and Toyota were being manufactured that AISIN made the engines transmissions axles and t-cases. Should you find error in my statements don’t make comparisons give me details to change my erroneous summation.

    How to get better power out of a 1.6 16v engine?

    • @Zuksoffroad
      @Zuksoffroad  3 місяці тому +1

      It’s a closed loop system unless you turbo it and that’s iffy at the moment because the rods are weak. The ecu is not programmable. No aftermarket cans because it’s not programable. It’s all about compression and gearing. What car is it in? What size tires? What transmission? What axle gearing? What is your purpose for this vehicle?

      About the same here. Lost three 16v myself, building an 8v turbocharged pane engine now. Then will build a Suzuki car around it.
