5 Ways To Add Electronic Drums To Your Acoustic Setup

  • One of the best ways to expand your drumset's sound pallet, is to add electronic drums into the mix. Here are five ways to do that:
    1. Add a Multi Pad
Multi Pads let you use whatever sound you can think of with your acoustic set. Most of the multi-pads out there like the roland SPDSX let you import samples, so whatever sound you find on sound-cloud and suddenly be right there at your fingertips.
    2. Add a side snare
Acoustic side snare's are awesome, but you only get one sound out of them. If you get a small rubber or mesh edrum pad, you can assign whatever sound you want to it, including cool Dubstep/EDM/808 sounds.
    3. Drum triggers
This is one of the most popular methods out there. Drum triggers can be connected to a multipad or a drum module, every time you hit your acoustic drum, you're also getting another sound. Mix them together to create really cool sounds.
    4. E-Cowbell
Belive it or not, there are electronic cowbells out there, or just bar triggers. These are great because they don't take up much space.
    5. Electronic Kick Drum
If you don't want to mess with drum triggers, and all you need is a cool electronic kickdrum sound every once in awhile, get somthing like a Roland KD9, put it next to your acoustic drums, and now you have a dedicated kickdrum that can make whatever sound you want! :)

Always liked the way David Silveria, Morgan Rose, John Otto, Joey Jordison and a few others incorporated electronic pads and triggers into their acoustic kits

One of your best videos yet, I’ve utilized old equipment and added triggers, now not only do you have sound flexibility but the cool throwback look of old gear with an modern edge. It’s become a hobby.

Awesome and very informative video. I recently added a "cow paddy" to my Alesis Crimson and love it. Since watching this video Im kinda thinking about the Alesis sample pad! thanks for sharing this valuable information. Greatly appreciated!

Wow, even if not incorporating acoustics, ideas 2 and 5 I think could help me expand beyond the limitations of the TD-20!

The issue of FoH latency and monitoring are two key topics in accepting e-solutions and therefore hybrids. I would enjoy a similar breakdown on options/solutions on those fronts in addition the ongoing suite of great talk-thru’s to date.

Thanks for this video. I have a custom electronic kit that i want to incorporate into my acoustic kit as a hybrid. My challenge is getting the TD 10 module to produce sound through my focusrite interface. Any suggestions? I am stuck. Thank you in advance.

The blue drum kit behind you are converted to electric correct? What pads did you go with? I'm looking at drum-tec and perhaps converting a kit. Thanks!

I have a double bass kit with a full Gibralter rack and rack side extensions on both sides, and was thinking of buying the Alesis Nitro Mesh kit,but instead of using the provided Alesis rack could I hook the nitro mesh kit toms to the rack I already have and add electric drums to my acoustic kit that way?

Hey I have something hot for you. How can you reverse the Roland TD50K to sound like real acoustic drumset? I have a client that whats to really hear the sound of an acoustic drumset.

So if I just wanted to add 1 single V-drum to an acoustic set, I’d need both the electronic drum and drum module correct? Is it possible to just use the electronic drum or trigger connected to an audio interface and use it that way?

Is it possible to add a drum trigger on to a practice pad? For example, the Sabian Quiet Tone Mesh Pad has a real mesh drum head on a real drum hoop. Would it work on that? I'm guessing probably not a typical gum rubber pad?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  6 років тому

Yes, a good trigger for that would be the Simmons trigger piezo.

What drum module would you recommend for such a setup (i.e. maybe a couple practice pads plus 2 of those yamaha kp65 for foot practice)? The Yamaha DTX 502 seems like it could be good but I have very little knowledge.

My Alesis sample pad pro is becoming non functional due to both age and damage
I’m pretty sure the main reason is the plastic inputs
Does anyone know of a multi pad with metal inputs, pad inputs, ability to load sample, and a fast kit loading time

    • @65Drums

I would look at a Roland SPDSX if you want something really tough
