Using The Roland SPD::ONE Pads on Acoustic Drum Kit with Jordan West | Reverb Demo Video

  • Jordan West came by the Reverb office and, with her, she brought the new Roland SPD::ONE pads. In this video, Jordan showed us how she would use three of the pads in combination with her live drum set. The Percussion Pad contains more realistic sound samples, the Electro sounds more like a drum machine and the WAV Pad is for user samples, click tracks and backing tracks. Watch how Jordan incorporates this gear into her setup.

      because you know you want to buy a drummpad. I did. A KAT. Affordable, has some interesting sounds. Good to record into a looper and use as either a metronome or a raw idea to play on top of.

      I catch myself watching Synthesizer videos and I don't play keys either. Although I do want to buy a synth to play along with the guitar and bass... and the drumpad. I need more cowbell.

      That's exactly what I do. I play guitar with a kick and a wav. On the wav, I have either tambourine, hi hat or snare sounds. Obviously, my "drumming" patterns are primitive, but it's a great way to put some surprising moments into a performance. @@VincentSebastianMusic

    is it recommended to put it through a PA or is there some amps that are good to run them through?

    • @Reverb
      @Reverb  6 років тому +1

      Great question. We put it direct in and monitored from a QSC k10 powered PA speaker. That's a great option for a single speaker. Other powered PA speakers from JBL and others, any keyboard amp like the Roland KC series, are all good options. Running it into a guitar amp isn't the worst idea, but those aren't particularly well equipped to handle, say, the subharmonics of a kick drum sample. Bet you could make it sound cool, though.

    • @TotinosOtherBoy
      @TotinosOtherBoy 4 роки тому

      Not everyone needs 9 pads and has 900 dollars to spend dude. Some people just need one pad for a couple sounds and thats it. 200 is a pretty decent price for a single drum pad that you can store any samples you want. I swear all yall crybabies in this comment section dont get what its meant for

    • @Mudge07
      @Mudge07 6 років тому +1

      Innovation and flexibility are only two plusses, electronic drums aren’t everyone’s preference but their range is only limited by the samples they retain. Maybe you differentiate drumming with percussionists, these roles merge more and more in certain genres. Akin to calling a guitar a lead or rhythm, it can do both; it’s all at the flick of a switch and down to what and how they’re played. If you still don’t want to call someone a ‘real’ drummer because they employ this hardware then its a limitation on your appreciation not their ability. Yes, there’s something great in seeing and hearing the boom of an acoustic kit played, or a snare drum crack and pop in a marching band, I don’t see these pads replacing them in their traditional realms.
