I love these shop videos where you work on so many different pieces of equipment. When it’s cold outside, it must be so nice to have a deluxe shop like that where you can work in comfort. 👍🏼
As a non farmer, retired construction worker, it's great watching the chores a farmer handles besides being in the field planting and harvesting. Please thank Dougo, Big Sweed, Brody and, of course, Mom for sharing your day to day challenges!!! God Bless, stay safe.
I work for a Cat dealership. Take oil samples, if they come back clean, don't change the oil. Change filters regularly, but no need to change oil as long as samples come back clean.
Yes... absolutely true. IF you dont have your oil analyzed you should really look into it. the price where I send mine in Ft. Wayne, In are very reasonable. with oil especially all synthetic oil on the rise.... pull sample, mail it in, with one week results back, oil good, change filter, if oil is bad change both and investigate reason for. Bottom line... Low priced maintence.
29:10 in reference Brody suggesting to go combine the last 100 acres - Feb 2/24 I happen to drive by a guy out combining corn (looked to be 80 to 100 acres) just outside of Fergus, Ontario.
@chrishann5714 project farm rated that company's battery packs as the best. I have one and it started my backhoe like the battery were good when it did the sane as Larson;s tractor cranking. Best $300.00 I ever spent. Mine is the NOCO Boost Pro GB150 3000A
That wasn't ether you was smelling from the start up of the tractor. That was the burning of the DEF fluid in the exhaust smoke. That Def fluid will freeze. Read the label on the storage of it.
for loosing heat there trugh the garage door there are solutions. one is a plastic stripe curtain you can drive trugh. The other is a airblower type above the opening. crating a moving air curtain separating the cold and the hot side.
Hydro don’t go bad like engine oil take a oil sample and every time you change the filter you put on a higher micron rating so it cleans the oil more and more every time you change the filter it should tell you in the book how often it should be changed I would say 9k hrs is way past due
I wait eagerly for each new video. Here, or on Mrs Larson's channel (Chet's mom, not Jean, I don't think she has a channel yet) I follow several different farming families from coast to coast and north to south. No other farm keeps their equipment as well maintained, and as clean as the Larsons. That tells me that in every aspect of life they take pride in everything they do. Keep it up!! ♥️🚜🇺🇸🤍🚜🇺🇸💙🚜🇺🇸
Was watching your video on changing the filters on your excavator when you pull the cover off the return filter for the tank it’s not uncommon to see Oil sitting on top of that cap It usually means the seals might be leaking but in your video it look like you’re missing a plug in the top of that plate. You might want to check that. I think you guys did a pretty good job for never working on that before.also a good way to check real quick If your ECM is not working on a truck engine is to just by watching the dash to see if there’s an engine RPMs while you’re cranking should show 200 rpm or so and the dash receives that information from the engine, ECM

Just a FYI thats not how you replace return filter on your 320. And the amount of oil on top is an indication of issues. You remove the breather plug on top, lift up on the handle a bit and turn it than lift up a bit more and turn it then put the whole canister out. Then on the bottom open the port and drain the oil then remove your snap ring and filter. Check the bottom on the canister seal that probably the reason for the oil on the top.
Thanks for another great video Chet. It was most interesting. That digger you have take a bit to change the hydraulic oil in it. Quite a few filters and hard to access areas. Believe you said 36 gals of hydraulic oil to replace-wow. Amazing some of these machines. I hope they can figure out the big oil leak on Air Force one. Hopefully it is an item under warranty. See what next week brings for it. I hope all of you have fun on your snowmobiling trip out west. The one you did last year was lots of fun. Safe journey all of you. Getting some of your shop jobs done and moved out it seems. Waiting on parts for a few of them I believe. About it I guess. Thanks for everything Chet and crew. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Little different but we run 1300-5000 horse power engines in the oil field with a big day tank full of oil that constantly maintains the oil level. So if you have a leak or they use some oil they dont run out. i have engines i haven’t changed oil in for 2 and half years and they run 24/7 aside from maintenance or a shut down. We throw new filters in it every 2150 hours and run the valves. And take oil samples. Fire them back up. They are also Natural gas engines. Not Diesel. So that makes a large difference. But im sure i have units with 10,000 plus hours on the oil.
I have to agree those dimpled surfaces are a pain on your knees you can buy a rubber mat, just about anywhere that will make the kneeling a lot easier and a lot softer on the knees I use them all the time
My son's pickup wouldn't start so we put a new battery on it and it still wouldn't stay running so we put a new alternator and still had to be jumped off , Whenever you removed the jumper cables it would die and that's what it was , The big main fuse in the box under the hood
Why don't you use an oil analysis program. I used the heck out of it on my Fishing vessels. They can find problems before they destroy engine/hydraulic systems.
I understand on the fuse. Had the same thing happened years ago. Thought I had an alternator go out. Didn't help. Was going to carry to a mechanic and was just looking and putting things back together and found a blown fuse. So now that's one of the first things I check
Simple diagnostic for trucks that ECM is alive is the CEL should come on with the key and go out when it gets done checking everything. No CEL with the key means it’s dead. Check wiring usually on the battery harness or fuse.
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR BLOCK HEATER BEFORE YOU CRANK IT !!! You can shatter the block heater while its hot and gets hit with the cold water from the Radiator !!!
Pete, as you know, wear isn't always immediately visible on the components itself. This is why we mechanics pay particular attention to drain pans. The fine gray or black matter is normal provided it's not an inch deep in the pan. When you see large bits, then theres problems, & of course you already know this. The input shaft needed replacing, so it had to be done. I was surprised you didn't check the end play movement with a dial indicator 1st (unless completed off camera). Will definitely need to check it upon reassembly to see where the bearing preload is. Looking forward to video 6, have an awesome week.
I commented awhile ago that those big knipex pliers are great for filters👍👍. And as someone already commented, build a cage for the hydraulic pump on the trailer. Maybe even a spring return break away for Dugo 😂🤣
I worked at our Road Comm. for 40 years and had a salt truck guit one snowy icy night and after 3 mechanics looking and checking found a simple 10 amp fuse that needed to be replaced so the truck would start again
It’s a multilink fuse on your peterbuilt. One large fuse base with 4 or 5 fuse links built in. That’s why you will have certain functions working. Toyota uses the same thing.
You can get a laptop and a plug in box and software to connect to all semis, and 2nd box and software for your tractors. It's like 4 or 5k for each connection box
Most mechanics pump it out from the top. That’s how we do it and it’s not bad if it’s never changed you always fill some up overtime most books say 5000 hours at least Volvo says.
when I was about 18 my father had a great idea to clean out an auger , I'm 68 now and Dad died in '08 , we were growing alfalfa Breeder seed , and to clean the auger out Dad had a bright idea instead of spending a hour blowing air threw the"New" 8" auger to clean it out on changing vriatity
Great videos, so enjoy watching your content. Watching farming practices similar to here in Alberta with different crops. Erik, two videos in a row pulling off your headgear and showing your wave, not sure if it’s good or bad, but if one didn’t know better Donald Trump is moonlighting at Larsen Farms! Take care guys continued success.😊
We ran the material handlers year round and put over 2,00 hours/year on them. AW46 oil was used in the winter and AW68 in the summer. We used a filter cart to transfer the oil into 300 gallon totes. The tank was wiped clean and filled using the filter pump. The oil was tested monthly and reused if it passed testing.
“Park the machine on level ground.” They both turn to the trailer and look at the trackhoe! Priceless!

You guys ate so darn cute and funny you feed off each other. Now if you could get Chris back. Your videos are great
I feel for Doug. Seeing Chet and Brody now, I can only imagine what they were like together as teens!
They are not brothers , Brody is married to Chet's cousin ,Randy's daughter
@@AlbertaBoy745 I knew they weren’t brothers, assumed cousins. Thanks for the info.
The big swede's hair color and style are the same as what my grandma had
The young man needs a haircut!
Time to call Nortwest Hairlines-😉@@TheJimbob1603
His hair could use an oil change. Lol
Not to mention the swede, I think he uses snuff. Watch his bottom lip.
Every time I see big swede I think of a young Robert Redford the actor. He looks just like him LOL
We never changed hydraulic oil where I have worked. Change plenty of filters and add good oil because when you blow a hose you change the oil
Installing the Lancota, “Might need a prying tool.” Look in the grain hopper!

Just an algorithm comment. Thanks for the video, gents, always a good time.
Can't wait to see the snowmobile trip guys have a blast
Always enjoy the adventures of Dougo, Chet, Eric and Brody. Thanks for the rides and hope you all stay well and safe.
Another great video. Was Dougo happy with the oil change on the excavator?
That battery pack impressed the heck out of me!! Nice
@chrishann5714 project farm rated that company's battery packs as the best. I have one and it started my backhoe like the battery were good when it did the sane as Larson;s tractor cranking. Best $300.00 I ever spent. Mine is the NOCO Boost Pro GB150 3000A
Watching the Larson family makes me miss growing up on a farm
Better check your geringhoff gearbox on left side when you get it back out….oil drains out of your breather when stored folded up!
That wasn't ether you was smelling from the start up of the tractor. That was the burning of the DEF fluid in the exhaust smoke. That Def fluid will freeze. Read the label on the storage of it.
I suggest, put the pump on a frame that can be bolted/pinned and _also_ sized for a truck bed.
Always fun to watch

It always takes a lot longer than expected, Chet.
You all are so good and funny.
Gotta ask...where does Dougo get those black/camo shirts and jackets????
Band of brothers, thats how I describe you guys ..awesome work.
I love how you post content a lot. Always new video to look forward to. Thanks

Love the Brodie action figure in the atv!
keep up the good work be safe god bless
You gotta love the big machines 😊
26:28 cold weather will finish off any worn-out or low on electrolyte. Every time guys.
✌️👍🇬🇧
Wonderful to have great equipped farm shop. Sure beats working on gravel outdoors. 😊
The thing about Hydraulic Oil, as long as you change the Filters like your supposed to then that many hours are not Bad.
According to the operators manual for your 8r it does in fact have automatic ether injection based on the ambient temp and coolant temp.
you should light the grill up on the wall just like it was on the truck
Chet love the content. Ur videos always make my day man. Keep up the great work
Dougo’s new toolbox maybe should be CAT yellow.

I was taught the same Chet always tighten but not over tighten maybe supervise the BIG SWEDE if he is putting filters on lol
when you blow a hose off an lose 20 gallons of hydro fluid every couple years isn't that the same as changing the oil ?
Yes, yes it is! 😉☺️
But I didn't see them fill the new filters before they put them on
Another great video thank you Chet and crew!
It is a one-day project…… one day it will finally be done!
Chet Dougo Eric Broodie great explanations and great video thank you for sharing and your time was really good can't wait for next video thank you

Ditto, I had been wondering
Good stuff guys
I worked at a Deere dealer and we always pump the oil out the top with a filter caddy then we would clean the tank before putting new oil in.
You guys sure have fun working and I have fun watching you work.

Not alot of equipment likes to start in the cold shed especially after sitting for awhile!
Love watching your videos, but really wish you could put mics on each person. It is hard to hear you and the others.
I was hoping for a nibbles sighting
Hey. I enjoy your channel and congrats on your new bride. Larson Rules. Thanks for your content
Hi Chet.. How is Toby? May God Bless you and yours!
You should build a cage around that pump to protect it some from duggo
I thought it should be mounted on the front part that stays with the truck
@ramshackleshack751 the way that trailer is made none of it stays with the truck from what I've seen. The king pin area is also part of the ramp.
@@kylebuckner7374 that's right. I forgot it's not a detach. The front folds down for the ramp. Puts the kingpin into the dirt .lol

If a Deere dealer installs a part and it fails, warranty should pay for parts and labor,
If YOU install the part only the part is covered by warranty…
Thank you for telling us about the combined and silver bullet finally that really does hurt 850 bucks for a blown fuse
This dosent relate to this video, but I'm curious why you quit wheat and why Chet is so glad they did.
Love this episode keep up the great work that you all do.....😅😊
