Pretty slick install of the hydro pump on the trailer but were I you I would think about taking it by a local upholstery shop and having them make a heavy vinyl snap-on cover for that bad boy. If you don't it won't take long for it to match the underside of the trailer with mud and dirt blow-off from those back wheels. Brody will have to blow the carburetor right off that thing in order to get it clean and you know Dougo isn't going to get his hands dirty pulling on no filthy rope handle. Just thinkin'...
So back in the day, my heavy truck mechanic father would just take the center hub nut and bearing out and remove the wheels and drum all at once! (Get a wheel dolly, makes life easier without removing the tires every time you do a brake job)
18:10 "get the air out of the hydraulic line - do you know?" With a pneumatic vacuum pump, that's how they do it in the factory on all brake systems. You would need to devise a way to hook the pump up to your line system tho.
The reason for the type of wheel on lo-boy trailer is strength. Budd style wheels are bad for cracking from lug to lug and tearing centers out of rims. Most all extra heavy duty applications will have the Dayton style hubs(what you have now)
Yup when the lowboy trailer is up, the big holes near the bottom hinge are where transport lock pins go. So they lock the neck up vs. Hydraulics holding it.
21:53 Chet, if you did want to move the pony pump off the back of the trailer, find a spot on the semi tractor, perhaps on a couple if you use a couple with that trailer, and put a couple of hydraulic ports on the absolute rear end of the trailer. That with a pair of say 30’ lines to connect those rear ports to the pony pump on the semi tractor gets the semi out of the way of the loading zone, and gives you full use of the entire deck of the trailer should you need that at any point.
That’s cool I had to see where in Canada these guys where From and I see it’s rosenort Manitoba they are only a hour and a half away from me that’s very cool to me
I would look into putting fenders over your axel. Keeps everything cleaner and if you need to load something onto one of the pillers it is easier to stop than to try and stop with out them.
The hydraulic vale should have some time of markings on it. Some hydraulic systems are self bleeding. Might have had to loosen the line fittings. I am an ex Aircraft Mechanic and the hydraulic systems on each plane are different. For instance, on an F-4, if I was going to bleed the brakes, I would put the land gear handle in the up position. But remember, the Aircraft is on Jack's, gear cylinder locks in. Once you apply hydraulic pressure with the handle up, it is Appling hydraulic pressure to the brakes so the sp the tire quots spinning before retracted into the wheel we'll. A C-130, y p u could run the utility system hydraulics and just keep pumping them, then switch to the Auxiliary hydraulic system and do the same. That usually bleed the system. It might to actually be bleed to pass Antiskid operations. That is what doesn't alow you to loke up the brakes. But it appears that you guys figured it out on your own. In my business, I have Technical Data must us provided by the Manufacturer. We are issued a laptop to access this information and are required to follow it step by step. GOOD JOB GUYS
We have a couple 2 track deeres in 144" track spacing, we carry a 24 row 36" mounted planter with no lift assist, awesome planting setup for us gravity irrigated guys
For the garage openers as far as i know there is basically old and new style of radios in them. My vehicles worked fine on my old one but when it failed the new replacement would not work with my old vehicles any longer. I also got some keychain ones for my motorcycle to have so when i was coming home i could reach to my keys and open the door as i was pulling up. There again i had to choose the right remotes for the new motor.
Another awesome video. You can turn the recoil upside down on the, so that it's pulling downward or more of a straight pole with your right arm. Also for about 200 bucks you can have a electric start kit to those.
Wheel seals, drums, brake shoes, bearings, tires. In the fall dougo will trade the old girl for an rgn and be done with the old crap. Those hubs are dayton and the lugs are shovel lugs. When the drums are inside the hubs they are called inboard mounted, when you have a hub pilot wheel and the drums are outside they are called outboard mounted.
Chet, about those hyd hoses in the trailer and zip ties, you should put some sheathing at the zip tie because over time the zip tie will cut through the hose.
Oh and I feel the pain on door opener programming, we bought 4 extra ones for the new shop truck and other equipment. After a friend showed up and made us feel stupid by showing us a learn button we kept missing. We looked at the lower control and up on the motor. I’m sure it’s something simple, it was for us at least.
Hey Larson farms Rev. Paul, Eustis Florida. If you spread some yellow corn meal down before removing the tracks on concrete floors and spread more replacing tracks save time plus safer.
I changed out a pull start motor a while back and replaced it with the Chinese knock off version. If you get the one that looks exactly like yours (I think its Loncin but might be Lifan) it is all good as the Chinese manufacturer used to make the Honda engine to the point you can buy the Honda parts and they fit exactly. I think Lifan make a copy that isn't as good tolerances but don't quote me on that. My one works really well and my fingers now do not get ripped off when it kicks back as its a 16hp engine! It was worth every penny and was about a third of the price of a Honda.
Hey Chet, if you don't want the small Dayton hubs you should be able to go to a low pro 22.5 hub pilot hub. We done it to a 1970 something step deck with the same size that you have now.
I see you use alot of zip ties. If you have a problem with them breaking right out of the bag. You can add water in the bottom of the bag so all the ties touch the water and the next day they won't break when using them. The zip ties are made with plastic and it will absorb the water and make them flexible. Especially the black ones because they are made with a regrind mat. I've worked with plastic for 30 years.
Grab a piece of plywood throw some grease on it pull the cap remove the nuts and bearing and slide the wheels, hub and drum all out together. Replace the seal clean the drum replace the brakes if necessary and shove back together, there is also a jack assembly made to pickup wheels and drums and to roll it off the spindle.
The trailer brakes, you don't have to take the wheels off the hub. It comes off the spindle all in one. Just take the bearing nuts off and outer bearing off. You will need a wheel dolly to do it.
I’m a Canadian and I seen a porta power like ten years ago when I was working at a local auto body shop is and after school job went to the patch and bought a set cus I thot it was cool and had the cash it’s in my shop unused to this day lol
Love everything you do! But I'm pretty sure you want to build some sort of steel cage around that little motor/pump. The first time it gets tapped it will be a goner. Of course the cage won't save it from a big mistake. After a long day, it will happen! But it is a great idea adding the pump to the trailer.
Doug should make sure he has the correct series door transmitters for the opener. We had the same issue and drove us crazy for a bit. Needed 1 revision higher to work when the control board was replaced after a lightning strike.
Would have built a platform and then mounted the engine to that after changing the configuration of the engine and mounted it under the front of the trailer. Shorter hydraulic lines and the motor is out of site out of mind. Before you say it’s easier said than done, I’ve done it several times in my dad’s shop. We even added a remote control that would both start the motor and actuate the hydraulics. There was still a manual valve just in case.
Nice install, but do you have to stand on your knees in the mud to be able to operate the hydraulic, perhaps a valve with remote would be more useful🤔 Perhaps some kind of cover on the motor in the back also would be useful
Good video! Now here's some great advice, grab a few of your favorite 5 gallon gasoline cans, and go to a small local airport and buy aviation gasoline, use that for all your small engines on the farm, such as this hydraulic pump engine sprayer transfer engines etc That aviation gas just doesn't go bad fast like gas station type pump gas does.
Those trailer rims are technically called Dayton Wheels, laymans terms are sh-t spreader wheels, Budd wheels are much easier (and expensive) to work with. You can rotate the pull starter in any diection you want, the recoil part is separate and contained, I'd rotate it clockwise where the cord pull is at 2 o-clock, pulling level towards the front of the trailer.
you may want to add a pilot operated check valve or counterbalance valve to keep the trailer from leaking down. But they won't work directly with a float feature.
Can you have Doug make a video of programming the remotes after he figures them out please get. We are getting ready to purchase some for same openers at our school district . Would love to see his explanation
On the planter, consider widening the 30” on-row centers to 32” between planter units #10&11 plus #14&15 to allow for the 30” track belt compacting right on the crop row. Plus, second thought - keep the 9X ready to go as a backup option, due to the known mechanical unreliability of 13.5L JD 9530T.
@@lynwessel2471 what is the soybean planter that Brodie has been pulling with the 8370RT. I guess if you want to really know ask Randy. He's the money guy.
Why does the wide stance kit not have dowel holes on the outside of the spacer? Typically dowel pins are used to carry some of the load, but now you are just relying on the bolts to hold/take all the force, which is now higher than from the factory due to the track being spaced out.
For future reference rather then repair links and zip ties, go to the surplus center and get some weld on hose clamps, cheap and makes it look professional.
Chet Dougo Eric and Broodie great job loved the explanations and thank you all for sharing and your timethe only thing didn't get a good enough explanations from Dougo on the door openers could he go into more detail might be helpful mine is a manuel slid but I could up grade some day
Thanks for the video Chet. Most interesting and informative video. The kit to widen the tracks worked well for you. Now you can use this tractor to plant with. The crew knew what to do and how to do it. Nice work everyone. Sorry about the cut on the head Chet. Hopefully will heal ok. The hydraulic pump system is working fine that you put on the digger trailer. Nice work everyone. The hydraulic come alongs will work good for that crew from Canada. Nice tools you showed them. Dayton wheel style. Do not remove the tires you only need to remove the hub then either use a wheel dolly or fork lift to cradle the tires then pull complete assembly

You can definitely take the pull start and rotate it. The spring will stay coiled.
