Yes mount it on the truck. Much better idea and way less work and smarter place to put it. You could even make a mount for it and make it portable to go on any of your trucks if needed. Thanks for the video.
Then why not just put a wet kit on the truck. The reason they are going with this set up is so any truck they have can pull it and it's not limited to one

Chet tell Brody to watch his power washing hoses, or he might hit that switch below. I was starting to scramble over the edge when the electrician ran over and hit the switch luckily. Good times...
Why not paint a line on the floor. Then when your backing equipment over the pit, you can line against/along it. Not having to worry about dropping into the pit.
Have a class on the man lift!!!!! Make sure that if you are operating close to an over head object that someone is on the ground knows without delay how to take control of the unit. may I suggest to you all, keep a maintenance logbook for piece of equipment. So when you guys are working on multiple pieces of equipment at one time, you're not flipping back and forth on one book. Also when you sale a piece of equipment its easy to sale and could add more value, because of all maintenance records are kept. If you really go nuts get some digital tablets with maintenance manuals loaded for the equipment, then when you sell print records, and keep tablet for replacement equipment. You can set the tablets up for all kinds of inspections and maintenance issues as well as trends of inferior parts breaking too often. It does take time to set them up, but when its done I believe you're going to love it.
You don’t even know the difference between sale and sell and yet here you are telling them what to do. I wonder how they ever became a successful multi generational farm without you telling them what to do?
Cut the deck plate out over the rear axle. Then build a bracket for it to sit on above the rear axle and in between the frame rails. That way you can reach it from the rear to start the motor.
Chet you made Brody a happy man with that lift, also love Dougo comment bust out another $1000. The end is never in sight! Mount hydraulic unit on the truck that usually pulls that trailer!!!!!

FYI the 120 volt outlet is just a fancy extension chord built into the sissoring frame. You have to plug it into an outlet in order to have power up in the basket area.

Make a skid that will mount in the position of the deck plate on the trucks. Mount that pump to it so it wont be stuck on one truck and wont limit you on the use of your trailer.
I know you are probably done with this project already but here goes. UA-camr Cassey LaDelle has a trailer that looks like yours. His pony is mounted under the deck. He turns a key by those back tires and the engines starts.
You stole my thunder! I'm thinking the Larson's unit may be too tall to fit completely under the deck though. Casey's was manufactured like that as far as I can tell.
@@ridingwithairbubble1694 what's funny is when I see the way the Larson's unit operates Casey has that on his Western Star. He should plumb that ramp to run off that truck. Keep the pony as a backup.
You guys should paint some guidance lines on the outside of the maintenance pit. A stripe on either side immediately outside the wheel tracks will give everybody a quick visual indication if they're centered over the hole.
Was an Aircraft Mechanic forbover 20 years on C-130 Aircraft. We had to use that size alot, and thevnext size big, band Snorkel liftsthat would also to to to the top of ehe vertical fin. A lit advice, make sure you use the chain on the back where you climb up. It will save a lot of pain.
You should take the new pump apart and make a box for it to fit in. Under the trailer in the space closet to the deck by the brake chambers for the first axle. It looks like enough space to put a shelf to hold the box. You should measure the space and see. From the top of the trailer cut an opening to start and access the pump.
Back in the 80's I pulled a LoadKing like that one. The engine and hydraulic pump was mounted between the frame rails in the floor of the trailer right in front of the rear axles. We had several of those trailers and they worked pretty good.
As a person who uses those lifts all the time they are very sturdy at full height and yes you can stand out on the extension at all heights usually about 400 lbs I do believe
I used to take new guys at work up on those things all the way up and just stand on the deck and just shake it back and forth and just watch a freak out have we had a I believe ours was a 50 ft it seemed like 80ft, big one 5x6 deck
Make sure you get a good cover made for that unit. It's going eat a lot of dust and grime back there. Nice unit, could have many uses. TAKE CARE GUYS AND STAY WARM !!!!
You have room left on the trailer deck in front of your equipment. Make a low profile wheeled dolly, or cart. Start it, hook up your lines, lower ur neck, wheel it down and off the trailer. Can be wheeled to a safe distance and out of the way. Or simply mount it to the truck.
Definitely recommend getting a Marine mechanic to rebuild and reinstall the lower unit. Also get a new prop. Any dents in the prop will translate to vibrations inside the engine.
Yes Eric you can stand on the extension platform with that 19’ lift. Coming from an industrial electrician that has spent years on that same model lift. Been there, done, got the T-shirt. Great video Chet
I can see a scissor lift sized door between the shop and the wash bay now. You know, for drying out. Its a just a matter of time. Congrats on your new very useful tool. 👍
Can confirm, hire out the lower unit re-install! Did this with an 87 year old grandfather in-law, a 58yr old uncle in-law at the top of a dirt driveway in northern New Hampshire with FAR less tools and know how. It seems simple until you need to get the trans, motor, and both shafts into the same gear while holding, twisting, turning, persuading all of that together at once. Ask me how I know. Also would have loved to have had a seat like Erik while holding all that!
Brody definitely deserves the lift after all the hassle he gets put through, but he always takes it well. And he knows you are all so well. You guys are fun to watch. And I am with Eric on going up high. The closer to the ground I am, the happier I am. Keep warm.
Suggestion….the lower unit is touchy going back in and doing it on a tilted motor is more touchy. Going back on….back it over the pit so you can go straight up with it. It will need to be set to same gear as boat control cable or you will be doing taking it off and on (don’t ask). Shouldn’t be any wear point on the shaft other than gear threads at top. If splines are good and greased and not bent, go for it. Change impeller (water pick up) while off. I would thing they have some plastic covers for the electronics you can get along with a skirt cover….i have no idea, but would think they make em.
As far as maintenance records, if you want to keep track verbatim and extensively, have a record book for each piece of equipment which is always kept with that piece. Any time a maintenance procedure is performed, always log it in that record.
Put the shifter in reverse so it's easy to turn the prop and get the drive splines aligned. Tilt the outboard back. Remove the cowl, hang a ratchet strap that hooks on both sides and runs under the lower unit. Easy controlled one man removal or install.

We had these JLG scissor lifts at the airline I worked at. Great for working on regional jets with high mounted engines and t-tails. One evening I decided to get a picture of the sunlight hitting the mountains just right from the other side of the airport terminal, my coworkers did the same thing and turned off the basket control. Left me stranded fully extended for a while. At least it was a nice view.
Lift your boom up high. Track on till the machine wants to tilt on the deck. Then boom down. The machine will sit level. Best way to load in the winter
Thanks for another great video Chet. It was most definitely interesting. The look on Brody’s face when he saw the new lift was amazing. He was so happy. He couldn’t wait to get it inside to try it out. You were great to do that for him. He will get a lot of use out of that. Make a cover for the technology part of it to keep water off of it. Nice power unit. Might want a cover for it. Dougo and his boat. Oh my. Looks like it took a heavy hit. Putting all that lower unit back together is not easy. If it was me would have a boat mechanic come and inspect it and put it back together. Dougo that is too bad it has issues. Sorry. Thanks for everything Chet. You all take care. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
We had a bunch of the drop neck trailers in the military. The pony motor was up front centered on the neck just behind where the neck pivots. It had a legit 1/2 steel door to lift up. All the controls and key start were up by where your hydraulic inputs are now. You’d have to pull it off its pallet. Only thing I can see is at the rear all the dirt a debris getting all over it. Up front it was in its own case. Regardless you guys will come up with a great solution that works for your operation.
I was loading my 336 on a lowboy last week. The trailer had no ramps it was about a 12” drop I had to get my tracks up on while sitting in a road that was straight ice on a lowboy deck that was a sheet of ice. The flattest spot within reason was about 4° slope. I slide most of the way off the trailer twice and needed to just leaving it in the crooked which really annoyed me but no one died and no machines were on their lid
I usually do not comment but unfortunately i feel the need here. I am all for just jumping i and figuring it out however those lifts do not like side load, especially if you have a large hose hanging off the side of it, that said, arial work playform training isnt overly expensive and worth the knowledge along with a fall arrest (harness) training for using those lifts. Fall arrest can also carry over to your bin site work. As for the trailer, over the tires you can just run some of your old rubber matting over the tires creating a "mudflap/fender" per say that can flex and you can drive equipment over it. Great video as always Chet! Keep up the great work s always!
Living on the Atlantic shore all my life and being around outboards and inboards I'm crackin up watching you guys. You can fix anything related anything inland but this mysterious piece of water kraft got you. Talk to your dealer about converting to a jet drive and be done with props.
You may need a new lower unit if that prop shaft is bent. For future reference trim the motor all the way up when you take the lower out, makes things a little more easier. And always drain the lower unit oil out every year and put new gear oil in. Because moisture gets in there sometimes.
I love when you all make longer vids. It's my laughter for the day. my favorite one though so far Hass to be when your mom's car was stuck in the driveway last winter and your dad was over it. He was done messing with it.
Make a naugahyde cover for the controls station to keep most of the water off the control panel. And you can get a pressure washer hose up through the center and put a plug-in on the platform. They're included in the Towable versions of the lifts. And a plate for the gasoline pressure washer, too. 🎉 14:40
Nice to see the yellow vest on Brody...Thiers a reason people are required to wear them..The farms today are like comercial job sites and family lawyers will meet you in court if thier loved one is hurt or killed ..PERIOD
One thing I've noticed, is Dougo doesn't use the boom to move the excavator. When he was having issues loading, I was expecting him to extend the boom for stability.
mark the line aligned to the trailer rear wheels. mask it up with paint tape....spray white paint and there.... you got new lines you can align the trailer into the bay. same as parking lot lines

You can mount the pump on the truck that you use to pull the trailer the most. That way it won't block any of the trailer bed.
But than you have to connect the hoses, lift the trailer, disconnect the 5th wheel, put the truck close to the trailer to connect the hoses and lower the ramp. Then you decide if you want the truck close while loading. 7 things you have to do for loading or unloading.

great stuff love safe surprises be safe god bless
We had a bunch of the drop neck trailers in the military. The pony motor was up front centered on the neck just behind where the neck pivots. It had a legit 1/2 steel door to lift up. All the controls and key start were up by where your hydraulic inputs are now. You’d have to pull it off its pallet. Only thing I can see is at the rear all the dirt a debris getting all over it. Up front it was in its own case. Regardless you guys will come up with a great solution that works for your operation.
I’m with DougO, you should have waited and bought an RGN. I have seen several really good used ones for sale cheap the last few months.
Best video yet. Love Doug O’s projects lol. Drop another 1,000
Another great video.......the look on Brody's face was priceless
Brody looked happy he deserved it he does a great job cleaning equipment
I love when you all make longer vids. It's my laughter for the day. my favorite one though so far Hass to be when your mom's car was stuck in the driveway last winter and your dad was over it. He was done messing with it.
This was a fun one.. You guys do it all..
Make a naugahyde cover for the controls station to keep most of the water off the control panel. And you can get a pressure washer hose up through the center and put a plug-in on the platform. They're included in the Towable versions of the lifts. And a plate for the gasoline pressure washer, too. 🎉 14:40
Make sure your cords are grounded
Nice to see the yellow vest on Brody...Thiers a reason people are required to wear them..The farms today are like comercial job sites and family lawyers will meet you in court if thier loved one is hurt or killed ..PERIOD
One thing I've noticed, is Dougo doesn't use the boom to move the excavator. When he was having issues loading, I was expecting him to extend the boom for stability.
He was holding a spare bucket already.
Brody was sure excited for his surprise
Dougo, two happy days for a boat owner. The first day you buy it, and the day you sell it!!. Sold my Skeeter Bassboat over the summer.
The Larson’s toys and you couldn’t smack the grin off Brody’s face, I luv the comment the Larsons never go shopping and come back empty
glad to see you can get your hired man threw life
For your trailer I'd build an extention off of the back to hold motor and relocate the tail lights
The Brody Mobile!!!!!
Chet I am so glad you are feeling better and I am glad you have a wonderful wife to help you
You could use that lifting up motors or parts for the bin site.
Have watched a lot of UA-cam loading
Track equipment on trailer
Would bolting used rubber tracks on trailer edge rail give any kind of traction
mark the line aligned to the trailer rear wheels. mask it up with paint tape....spray white paint and there.... you got new lines you can align the trailer into the bay. same as parking lot lines
