- Don’t get caught paying for fruit trees, when you can easily clone them for free. Today I will show you how to grow a fig tree from a cutting that you can plant in your own garden. Fig trees are one of the easiest fruit trees to propagate, if you follow the right steps and exercise patience you will be able to clone your own fig trees, and there is nothing better then free fruit trees.
Thanks for the kind words and support 😁🐕❤️

Hi James!!! Thank you for the pruners!! If you could autograph them that would be GREAT!!😍🤗
I have cloned fig trees by the "air layer" method. Those, you do in the spring, when the plant is coming out of its dormant stage. Its rooted while still on the tree, and cut off after you see roots developed.
Thank you again for the shears!!😍
You’re welcome Toni!! I sent you an email already notifying you. Congrats!! 🎉 😁😁😁
Congratulations Toni!

Lol!! I think I responded a few minutes after recieving the email.👍

Thank you!!🤗
@Truelove
Thanks!👍
I used to live in Woodbridge and Edison,NJ but I was born in Perth Amboy, NJ. My mom used to grow fig trees, before the winter her Portuguese friend would dig a trench, cover the soft tree with burlap, and bend it into the trench and bury it with leaves and soil. In the spring dig it out, and support the tree with tie stakes. Now I live in Puerto Rico. I have 3.5 acre property. I grow passion fruit, bananas, papaya, orange trees, vegetables.
He’ll ya man what made you move to Puerto Rico much love from southern cali
To the point information, no useless talks
Thanks 😊
Definitely different from my region on propagation. We take a large bucket, throw some soil and water and just stick in the sticks. I’m in the south though so plenty of humidity and doesn’t get too cold.
I hope you guys are enjoying a nice break and that you and Tuck are okay!
Maybe your recommendations are the best fro NJ. But in TX, I usually cut only 3-4 inch branch tips, and they propagate like gangbusters!
Often longer tips are unduly stressed by the quick Spring heating up of the temperatures here.
I started our food forest by planting a Sam Houston peach and a mulberry I'd been growing from bareroot in a pot! I watch your videos and learn so much, which I in turn am teaching my grandsons. Tree farming is the gift that keeps on giving! Thanks James!
James,
Cheers from central NC. New subscriber here and I absolutely LOVE your channel! I am binge watching your older videos and gonna be rocking my Food Forest tee proudly when it comes. I am so glad you are able to spread this message and teach people around the world how to grow their own food. You are so right, anyone can do this.
People tell me all the time that they want to garden and "just don't know how." If I can do it, anyone can. I am nurse with no formal training in gardening or horticulture whatsoever. I started six years ago with a few pots on my patio and have been steadily expanding ever since. I now have a green house and a 2000 sq ft garden plus ten fruit trees.
❤❤❤❤❤❤Love seeing Tuck in your videos. He just has so much personality ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just found your channel on rooting fig cutting and really enjoyed your “How it all began” video. Thank you for sharing. It’s very inspirational. I’m getting ready to root some fig cuttings and will try your method. Keep my fingers crossed that they will root. Have a wonderful day 😊
I hope your not quitting youtube james. I just discovered your channel and you inspired me to start my own garden. Hope you keep making videos because I learn more and more from them.
I'm in South Jersey so I'm invested in your content my 2nd year fig fruited this year and this is exactly the video I needed, thanks bro
Love the giveaways! It definitely adds another level of interest for us UA-cam watchers.
This is right on time. I live in Las Vegas and just came from a cutting party yesterday. I have a black mission at home about 4 years old. Your info about tip pruning is gold!
Dude your channel is money. My Sweet B will have so many fig trees know - one of her favorites.
So happy your doing a video on Fig trees! I've been wondering about them for a while...thanks!
Let’s Gooooo Joel!!
@@jamesprigioni lol...love your style, putting in a food forest this summer and your channel was one of my inspirations!
Hi James, I'm a Jersey girl here! I've been binge-watching your awesome videos. You've got me all pumped up for Spring. I just found your channel a few days ago. I hope you're doing okay and will come back with more stuff soon!
Yea same here. Great channel
I live in a flat in a big city, and i' living vicariously through your videos. There's only so much you can grow in a pot :)
Thank you for also showing us the outcome. Lots of videos out there telling us “How To” but never showing results, so it’s hard to know what actually works beyond hearsay! This was so helpful!
Love the giveaway idea! Thanks James (and Tuck) for all you do. 🌞
Could you do a video about best ways / how you wrap your fig and other trees for winter?
I had the sound off and captions on - all of a sudden the hand movements and words synced up to a beastie boys song playing in the other room. I wish I could repeat what just happened - it was awsome
Beautiful figs! We had a couple of them at our old house! They’re so easy to grow and delicious to eat!
My Croatian grandfather had a fig tree in his yard in Jersey City, NJ. He’s long gone but I have a Croatian friend who has trees from there and I can get some cuttings from him. Thank you so much for showing me how to do it!
You are an urban permaculture farmer, a true inspiration.
Can’t wait to see you and Tuck again. Wish you are well and many blessings to you. You are missed.
What a wonderful idea to use the clear tub! Thank you for that tip!
Happy Spring James + Tuck.... been waiting to hear the first video of the growing year from you guys, hopefully soon brother
Just love watching you kids. Including Tuck. That little doggie eats better than me. Praying for you all Robin in Texas.
Hey you guys !!!
I can see you guys are all ready for the next planting session, specifically beautiful Tuck.
Blessings from: California you too.♡
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m going to take some cuttings from my dads big fig tree. Love your little baby Tuck! I had an Emma almost identical to Tuck for 14 years. She crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge January 6th. I really miss her. Thanks again. 💞🙋🏻♀️🙏🏼
❤
I love, love, love that you talk fast and get to the main points! (I have seen some 'snore fest' videos)
I always wanted to plant a fig - my father (total Italian) could not grow them in this weather - so never gave it a thought - now, definitely going to give it a try. Tuck, oh my Tuck, makes my day, makes me smile, love that little guy and the way he attacked that bok choy!!! hahaha. We are going to have warm weather for about a week - ok warm in the 40's - rephrase, warm weather for us - maybe another video?! There are a lot of commercials in your video, don't care, still hang in there. Are you writing a book about the knowledge you have - you make it a lot easier (definitely in a good way). Thanks for being you. Yes to the giveaways.
SO easy! I used to do this as a newbie to trade and sell fig trees when I was building my collection. I didn't know all of this stuff, but I did know about the rooting hormone. I didn't need it for my figs though. I just did mine outside but near the house. Very very easy!
YES! I've got a started "Golden Riverside" fig that is potted and rooting out. I'm grateful for how easy figs are to work with, compared to more temperamental types of fruit.
James, I hope that you and your family are feeling well. A number of people in your Gardening Channel family.wish you well.
Hi James and Tuck, I did your seed saving for tomatoes, I purchased an heirloom tomato and followed your video last fall, stored the seeds in the refrigerator until 8 days ago when I put 5 seeds in worm castings “ home made “ and 5 seeds in a moist paper towel to see if they will sprout, well both ways were successful Thanks I’m going to have some great tomatoes this summer. Love your videos and give Tuck a❤️ & 🥒
I've done this method (but with potting soil) and now my fig cuttings have now got their green growth!
Awesome!!! I just planted two fig trees here in NC and will definitely clone !!! I love figs!!!! Thanks for always providing such great info!!!! You and Tuck are the best!!!!!
Tuck's the best! Nice that Tuck shares in all the hard work, makes harvesting easier LOL
You rock... All your videos are awesome and very informative... Last year was my first garden and you were a really big help. Thank you
Tuck, you are so cute, I just hope that Leon loves veggies like you. I love watching both of you ❤️
Thank you so much for your videos, they are soooo helpful. We love Tuck too he is the cutest! God bless!🙏🕊️❤️
A few years ago, I decided to try using pallets to create a grow bed. I do not have most of those tools and trying to get the nails out 🤦🏽♀️!!! I used my dad's handsaw and decided it would take too long. You were able to build the bed I want. Niiiiice!
Thanks for this video. I didn't put the plastic over my cuttings. I don't think it is too late to try again. 😘 for Tuck 😍
Kudos to you James... Your content is great and your videography is Spot On! Your intro and how you moved through the garden - viewing you through the branches, your chosen backgrounds... Fantastic! 'Love learning from you and your approach is so welcoming; 'find myself "jumping" on each new released video. Awesome Job James... and yes, I love Tuck as well. 'Had 3 Yorkies - great breed, wonderful buddies. All the best to you!
you are a good hearted man, god bless you
I’m rooting them now🤗want those cuteass baby figtrees!Ow and you better be something, something or mute A.A.Ron!!🤨😁
Hi James. I love watching your videos. You cover a wide variety of topics and what you've been able to accomplish is astounding. I work with a community garden program and will often watch a video or two to make for an educational lunch break. So much to learn! I was wondering though, where does all of this food go? It looks like A LOT. About how many people does your food forest feed? How many people work on this project with you? And I am curious how this affects the amount of spending you do on other, supplemental food items. I hope to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your passion for fresh food with us! Your videos are an inspiration and your taste in music is A++. Take care.
Thank you! I have been wanting to try propagating an old apple tree. I am not that successful but keep trying. Today I learned something new. Now maybe it will work.
Thanks friend! I'm getting a fig tree this year to add to my perennials. Hi Tuck! I love my long sleeve t-shirt.
You’re welcome my friend! Good stuff. Tuck says hi back, and sends his love. Thanks for grabbing some mercy too, me and Tuck are glad you like the shirt 😁❤️🐕
Thanks for the how to, my neighbor has a fig tree that yields fruit and made a fig tort which was amazing. I had no idea a fig tree would thrive in Virginia, but I will give your method a try.
James ty so much for all your encouragement & advice. I sure hope I can do this, I live in Maine, my sister from RI just sent me a big branch from her fig tree, I'm very excited to try maybe a few methods you suggested as the branch has like 7 little extensions. Also wanted to let you know I put up hoop house following your instructions & I'll be damned, it's 11/15/22 & I have celery & actually just planted kale I just noticed I've got starts. That's with only 1 hoop house in plastic, gonna get the plastic over to 2nd hoop house this weekend. This is the best I'm so happy. 😀😀😀
Really enjoy your channel there James! Lots of good information and your enthusiasm!
Hello, I took some cuttings when I was moving last month. I put them in the plastic bag on the refrigerator like you said and they have started getting little white roots. so pumped.
Great video! I can hardly wait to see what you have planned for this year! The giveaways are a great bonus!
Love this video! Very informative and easy to understand! I just got into growing fig trees and this video taught me all I needed to know! Your dog is so cute eating that bok choy! LoL
Very impressed, you farm like I do.. extremely proud of your accomplishments with soil. Keep up the fantastic work!
You really inspired me man , I've now built my first garden with the green house top , just like your other video .. much love
Been growing fig trees this way for 3 years now. I have 100 trees now. 25 in rooting as we speak. Everyone should have at least 2 fig trees. I’m zone6a so I keep them in pots stored in garage during the winter. But come spring... out they go.
I am new to watching your channel and am new to gardening! I have already learned so much from your videos and truly appreciate your insight so much! I can't wait to really start my garden, eventually turning it into a food forest! I have two areas on our 5 acre property in OK (zone 7a). One in the back with 4 different pear trees, a black and red cherry tree, 2 peach trees, 5 Japanese Loquats, 2 different apple trees, and 2 Persimmon trees. In the front in an old coral is where I'll be doing my garden. My question is, how often and how heavily do you water your food forest, now that it's established with the multiple layers and heavy layer of wood chips?
This is great info. I have a fig tree in the backyard of my new place. Doing this now!! And yes - its Happy Frog!
Thanks for all the great information. Love your videos.
Great video. Just found a fig tree on the abandoned property next door. Now I’ll have my own. Thanks!
Thank you very much! These videos are sooooo helpful! 💙👍🐕 keep up the awesome work!
Thankyou, I tried to watch three other fig growers and your video is the best!🌱🌿🌳♥️
James are you doing okay? Haven’t seen a video on the forest in awhile
2 cup method. Red cup on the outside...clear cup with a few holes in them to sit inside the red cups so I can see any root growth. Awesome. Did cuttings 1st week in Feb, and just a few days ago, i noticed two of them had a lot of white roots, so I up potted them into 4x4 pots and now under the lights. Yehh, first timer here and i am so happy for the two. Theres more, so I shall wait and see. These are Desert King variety, great for lower mainland Vancouver BC climate. Cheers
Hope your ok it’s been a while since u uploaded , always look forward to your videos & advice u give in the process of buying a house & your food forest is what I plan to model mine after, thanks for all the flgreat & entertaining info
my father carried a branch on the plane from greece now we have 5 giant fig trees in NY and NJ i been wanting to cultivate some of it and make more so this video was really helpful!

ur a chill hombre and very informative+concise. rly good stuff man thanks a lot ,keep it up
You tube must be telling me something. They recommend your high energy videos while I’m having my first cup of coffee.
More than permaculture gardening. Really you could branch out into having a mini plant nursery business. James and Tuck Entrepreneurship Co. 😊🌱
Hi there it's been awhile since you posted this. I know your a new Yorker if my memory is correct. I hope you are well. I love your channel and will anxiously await your future posts. 💖Long live the food forest and you.
jersey. not New York. jersey.
Fabulous as always...
Hey James, hope you are going to post soon, I miss all the enthusiasm that you have in abundance and of course our little Tuck...hope all is well and that we are going to hear very soon...greetings from Australia
The number one point that really struck me is… wait weeks or a month! I had no idea that my expectations were so far off. Thanks, that really helps!
I started propagating my figs by cuttings last year. This year I bought cuttings for at least 12 different varieties and will start them this weekend. I think I went a little overboard, but, you can always give extra plants away to friends. There's only a few that'll survive zone 6b (i.e. hardy chicago), so most of mine will stay in pots (they go dormant and then hang out in the garage). It's pretty easy to become a fig-fanatic ;)
I love your canine helper!🐶🐾
Hi James, Terrific and informative video! Thank you so much.
I'm pretty sure this is the first video of yours I saw.. big fan ever since!!
Thank you so much family love your energy and your wisdom figs gods fave fruit 🙏🏽🌱🌳🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great video I like taking cuttings from everything.
I have figs but I will now take cuttings.

I like your videos. You explain things very well. TY
Amazing tips.. Hope to watch more and more 💕
Thank you for sharing this knowledge and the abundance that we can create from it:)
That's really helpful just received some cuttings from a friend cheers 🥂
Thank you for sharing this great information !!😊
Love your videos!
He asked if I was a Christian; I said, "you tell me." You're a good egg, James.
I've been watching about a year; your passion is contagious. Like you, I now have an obsession with buying plants. I just purchased $300 more because I just can't wait until spring here in 4B. Thank-you for the encouragement in propagation.
From Philippines here practicing sustainable gardening/farming. As always nice video.
You should try growing Chicago Hardy figs in NJ. It may be the most productive variety with the biggest crop, and it does well in cold weather. Delicious, too.
