100% successful METHOD for rooting fig cuttings and many other types of fruit trees.
Complete guide with step to step instructions and recommendations. If you have questions, leave a Comment, and I will try to answer as many as I can.
Muito obrigado JSacadura. I have successfully propagate local variaties of figs with your technics. I wanted to buy some good variaties of dark figs with juicy red or purple inside. Do you suggest an specific type? I am in the Algarve Portugal. Do you have a supplier in portugal? Thank you again!
Alguns viveiros nacionais comercializam algumas boas variedades de figueiras nacionais e estrangeiras (viveiros castromil, viveiros, albar, viveiros valter).
Please make a video on selection of cherry, kiwi, peach and apple variety for hot climate(zone 11)
@@JSacadura obrigado ! Vou conferir!
What temperature while waiting for new roots and leaves?
You are the most talented person I have ever seen handling trees and vines. I have a lot to learn from you. I'm 63 years old so I feel I'm quickly running out of time to produce outstanding crops like yourself. I thank God I found your channel. I look forward to the days ahead.
Blessings,
Louis
63? Me too. Ha, we better get busy!
63 is young . Wish you both good health ❤
@deg6788 Thank you. I pray all the best for you.
I had tge Same feeling i am 44. :)
I cut a horizontal branch off my Olympian, removed a few leaves from the cut end and stuck it in a pot of dirt. Kept it watered and about a month later, I had another fig. A lot easier! And 100% rooted!
Thanks for your videos, you got me motivated to start grafting again after a few years off. I did a dozen or so apples and pears this year with about 90 percent success, and started 30 new fig varieties with great luck also. Your videos are very motivational and informative.
That's wonderful! I'm glad my videos helped. Thanks for the comment.
Awesome video as usual. I would love to tour my fruit garden with you. 1 hour of your time would be the equivalent of 50 years knowledge. Keep up the great work.
You're too kind! We are all learning all the time. I'm sure if I toured your fruit garden I would also learn something from you. Everyone has different experiences that will always add something. Thanks for the comment.
The best channel on fig propagation, and it is getting better every time new video being posted. Thank you @JSacadura.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the comment.
Exciting to see kiwis being rooted like that, gonna have to try that next spring. I rooted some kiwi cuttings a few years ago but just in water and they took forever and ever. This looks way more practical, thank you!
Great video. Not too long. Not too short. Good detail. Good tips. Thanks!
Nice start to the morning from Down Under, thanks Mr Sacadura.
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment.
Another great video Mr. Sacadura. Thank you!!
Thank you for you inspiration. I did 17 apple grafts this year and all look like success.
Love your videos! Thanks so much!
Awesome video! Can’t wait to try this on my fig cuttings.
Great work! It is impressive to achieve a 100% success rate.
I have just recently grafted apple scions on a wild seedling in this hot summer. I protected them with aluminum foil. I hope they'll be a success.
Thanks for sharing.
Maestro! Thanks for Sharing Your Knowledge.
I continue in this fighting with my unsuccessful grapes grafting!
...without knowing the reason of my failures.
Thanks for your video!
Your videos help people realize it IS possible for them to do as well. Great work.!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for the comment.
Good tutorial for rooting cuttings and can be applied for grafting I believe!
What a good find, your channel is awesome. Agradecido!!!
I have never tried coco coir before. I have great success in my propagation frame using sand. This makes me want to purchase coco coir! Your knowledge and experience is a goldmine! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! God Bless!
Very good sharing 👌
You make it look so easy, its inspiring - when I heard about grafting in my early gardening life I thought it would be very difficult. You've inspired me so much so I'm going to try air layering my grandfather's apple trees this June. Thanks so much!🌳💚
Figs and grapes are one thing, but other fruits are much more difficult to marcot.
Love this vid! So helpful!
Great video, I've learned much from this!
Thanks for your time to share with us 🙏🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment.
Excellent i love how you always show results it helps so much when learning!
Thank you my blessed Teacher
Great job. As always- great informative videos.
thank you for giving us such an easy to follow step by step guide
Thank you for sharing this unique method. I learned a lot.
Great info and vid. thanks.
Wow. Video yg bagus,, saya akan coba
I broke all the rules in this video and I tried (and failed miserably) to grow a few clippings from a fig tree from my aunt. My clippings were overwatered and they all rotted and grew moldy. I think based on your method I can do it successfully. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed.
Habe mit Parafilm sehr gemischte Erfahrungen gemacht , würde Wachs favoritisieren.
Gracias por el vídeo.
My pleasure. Thanks for the comment.
Good job!
Thanks this video.
Shame I didn't see your video sooner , next year I definitely be using this medium & method thankyou.
Thank you so much
Your videos are the best resource on fruit propagation, hands down! I rooted about 150 grape cuttings this winter using these same grow bags - I found that a heat mat (with a spacer) greatly accelerated the rooting process. Quick question: When should you move the cuttings into full sun? My grapes leafed out about a month ago but they haven't done much shoot growth since. I did give them a light fertilizer and they are still in part shade. Since grapes like full sun, I am wondering when/if I should move the bags into that environment. Thank you!
First confirm that the cuttings have well developed roots by sampling some of the bags. If they don't they won't be able to support the rate of water loss by the leaves and I would still keep them in partial shade until they do. Thanks for the comment.

Looks good.
I watch all your videos and I’m still terrible at propagating trees. Great content keep it up!
In my first batches, several years ago, only a few plants survived. There was always something wrong (too much water, to much humidity, not enough light, not enough nutrients, etc). Practice makes perfect. Keep trying and good luck.

Nice video
If you rinse the coco coir from the salt the roots will grow fine and being an inert medium has several advantages over the use of black earth.
Muchas gracias.
Thanks!
thanks for the video, very helpful. unfortunately at my place the conditions of cocopeat are different. I also use it for cuttings or grafting, and I've also uploaded this on my channel, but for some conditions and types of plants, using soil that has been mixed with other ingredients gives better results than using cocopeat. 👍
I always say that growing fruits has a very important local component. What works for you doesn't necessarily works for someone else, who is in an area with different ambient conditions. It's true that coco peat isn't a medium that works well for all plant types. A soil, sand and peat mix, for instance, will be better in some situations. Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience!
Where can I get the bags? Looking forward to trying to root some cuttings from my grandma's fig tree. I really enjoy the videos. Thanks for the time and tips.
I have to say your work is exceptional, so clear and precise, I thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge here. You mention not disturbing roots, once you remove the cutting/plant from the bag, do you leave the coco coir in place then when you pot up?
No. I meant, with the individual containers, we don't need to disturb the roots to separate the plants, which you have to do when they are rooted together, in the same container. Check this video - ua-cam.com/video/awnZADNJ8mI/v-deo.html - at min. 10.00, to see what I mean.
@@JSacadura I thought as much, but I just needed to clarify it. Thank you sir, your help is very much appreciated.
Can you talk about the varieties of fig and identification please. Good video by the way.
Thanks so much for sharing your precious knowledge! I'd like to confirm if I get your instruction perfectly. You collected the branches in winter and store them in the fridge. Then in early spring you cut the bottom close to the last node, lightly scrape the bark, apply rooting hormone and plant it. Hope I get everything right. Thank you JSakadura!
Yes, correct. Good luck with your cuttings.
@@JSacadura Thanks!
👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can I ask when you say put the cuttings in the shade do you mean in a shade house or indoors like in a shed. Thanks in advanced,
This is so inspirational! I just bought some cuttings to try this but is there a way to start the cuttings in the winter time inside, under lights? Space is very limited in spring when everything needs to be started for the season but I have time and space in the winter. Would this be a mistake?
Great video, thanks. Just need to know when you transfer the medium plants size from the plastic bags to a much larger pot, do you still use coco coir or just regular garden soil? Thank you.
I really like your videos thanks. I have successfully rooted raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries which seem really easy. Cut, poke in the ground, watch them grow. to my surprise I have had the same experience with red and blackcurrant which seem very willing to root from cuttings. Blueberries on the other hand have been a challenge but to be fair before I watched your videos I just poked any branch that happened to break or from what I had pruned into the ground and thought 'well if it grows great, if not so what'. But I will try some of these techniques with blueberries although most commercial cuttings are done with soft wood and kept in a mister. Not sure how hard wood cuttings will do?
Softwood cuttings are easier to root with those fruit types. Thanks for the comment.
I want to use this method for pine tree cuttings
❤
💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍

Could you please make a video on rooting olive cuttings?
Great content as always!
By the way, I heard pomegranates were very hard to propagate, maybe it was wrong?
Olá. Hoje dia 11 de junho fiz umas alporquias. Este mês é o indicado?
Obrigado.
Bom canal!
It really depends on how hot is this period where you live. In my area it's best to do the air layers a bit earlier. Otherwise, I have to check them often, so they don't dehydrate.
Hi JSACADURA. Thank you for sharing this video with us. Obviously these are Fig tree cuttings which they are easy to root from cuttings. My question is can you apply same method to Plum, Apricot, Apple and Pear cuttings?
In the video you can see other fruit types being rooted with the same method (kiwis, grapevines and pomegrantes). So, it will work with other types of cuttings (it just takes longer). But, in most cases, you wouldn't want to root plums, apricots, apples or pears as they will grow much better when grafted to a robust rootstock.
Boa noite.
Obrigado
Can you root fresh cutting during the growing season?
Thank you for this video. Why do the plants need to be dormant? Could one just cut from a say cherry tree in the spring and then plant from there. I would remove the buds.
Hi great videos! Could you tell me please the size of bag.
Hi, I just found your channel and subbed :)
I have a fig tree with a lot of offshoots from the ground. I pulled one out and it has some roots. If I plant it, will it produce the same fruit as the mother tree?
Also any videos on English walnut pruning? can I cut the leader branch without killing the tree? My plants are in containers and I don't want them to become too big. Thanks.
When you get ready to up pot do you knock as much of the coir off the roots before planting?
@JSacadura
Thank you for the video & I have a question:
would it work if I root a kiwi in the autumn
when temperatures range from 15°C (59°F) to 21°C (71.6°F)?
Thank you for your expertise. Where are you located, and what is the climate in your region? I try to do the same in Belgium, in a moderate sea climate, but most fig trees struggle to get their fruit fully ripened. Do you think I can substitute the tape with a wound healing wax like compo lac balm? Parafilm and Ugro coco coir is very hard to find in the euro countries. Online shop tips are very welcome.
Hey J! Sorry to ask this on a video that doesn't discuss it, but is it possible to tbud graft early summer and get some growth during that season?
What size grow nags are you using?
Thanks
I grow a large fig tree in a container, and every year i prune, root, and give away cuttings. I usually use water and dirt, but i use rooting hormone to clone cannabis, so i moght jist have to try that this year.
Thanks.
Can you recommend the natural root hormone like aloevera?
Can cherry graft on plum?
Can this be done with cuttings that were taken in the summer?
I have purchased plum, apple, and peach cuttings but I have no rootstock prepared.
My original plan was to root the cuttings simply to preserve the genetics, then worry about the rootstock later. After I watched the video, I was thinking I could place my cuttings in the fridge and wait until I have prepared rootstock, and graft them late summer or next spring...
What do you think my best option is, considering that I purchased the cuttings in the summer?
Thank you
Where do you get those bags where you put the cuttings in ?
I tried rooting fig cuttings early last summer zone 6B,they just rooted a month ago, I put them in the garage for the winter, is this recommended ? They are in pots.
thank you so much for all your videos but particularly this one. a question please - about the timing for when to do things, given our climate/weather. When is the best time to root figs from cuttings? we are in the tropics - Philippines. we have 2 seasons - rainy and summer. we are now in the summer, really hot, so hot all schools, just about, have gone online. this hot period started March. Rains will come towards the middle to the end of May. climate change of course plays a role - sometimes rains don't come in earnest until mid-July and will continue to the end of October. occasional rains over November and December which brings cool weather up to mid-February...so i repeat my question - with this kind of climate/weathher, when is the best time to root figs from cuttings? do grafting? marcotting?...mygreathanks and blessings
Where do you buy parafilm? Is there any special grafting kind? I bought some which seems like cheap plastic and doesnt strech as it should. I have seen some Parafilm M which is used to sealing labolatory equipment but it's pretty expensive.
You can find Grafting Parafilm in Amazon. Its more adequate for grafting jobs than Parafilm M.
2 1/2 inch rolls will cost around 12 USD or 8 USD for 1 inch roll . Search for "Parafilm Nursery Grafting Tape" but beware of plastic knockoffs.
Where can I get grow bags like the one you are using?
Thank you so much for this. Will the same technique work with rose cuttings? And is it ok to use cling film or aluminium foil instead of parafilm?
It will. Be sure to use softwood cuttings. If you improvise a humidity chamber (using plastic bottles, for instance) there is no need to use parafilm or other types of wrapping.
@@JSacadura thank you so much for taking the time to reply and helping us all, really means a lot. Really excited to give this a try! My dad has been trying with rose cuttings (without rooting hormone) for a couple of years but most of them failed
What exactly are you using for these grow bags?
rooting figs is easy, will this work with japanese mapkes ? I doubt it
What type of bags are these
