My (I think) great, great, great, great grandma who was born and raised in the middle east brought a fig tree from there when she came to America and that tree has been following my family for generations, when we move we cut off a branch and grow it, currently the fig tree that is growing right now has been in my backyard for almost 30 years and it is humongous and to be honest I don't know how it has survived cuz we do not take care of it at all, we just left it to do it's thing, and it has gone through an attack of an invasive vine in my yard, freezes, and droughts but always produces delicious fruit and I'm currently trying to grow the fig tree since we are most likely going to move again, so wish me luck on continuing this tradition❤

Omg 🥹🥹❤️ I have a pomegranate tree that came from my grandma’s- by the time I was a kid it was already a beast! It was so dense and stood incredibly tall! The fruit would weight the branches to the ground. I’m so happy to hear about those lucky trees- I wish the same for our little pomey ❤

Yes, growing fig trees from cuttings are so easy. Living on the Gulf Coast of MS ,many homes have fig trees because they are just so tasty and so easy to start. When we plan to start another tree ,we will locate a lower branch in the spring an press it to the ground with a large rock or multiple bricks. By the time the tree has put on fruit, the branch will have sprouted roots. The branch is then cut and the section that has sprouted is transplanted to its new home. Our grandma tree has many figlets spread far and wide with family and friends. Thank you for demystifying the process. Easy for anyone to have a fig tree !!😊

Thank you for your video tutorial. Have you tried to start fig tree cuttings in just rain water? I have had 90% success with it and made a couple videos as well. Also, what is your favorite fig tree to get cuttings? For me it is the Brown Turkey Fig, but I am going to try Nero & Celeste next.

I'm in Adelaide South Australia,I start my fig cuttings in 60%vermiculite 30,%core file 10%perlite in clear plastic cup's tall cup's are best i scratch the base of the cutting, dip in hormone powder and water in ,l place all cuttings in an old fish tank and cover the top with a sliding piece of perspex germination so far is 95% pot on in late spring when the roots are visible in the clear cup's enjoyed your video.

Hi Jag, I have learnt a lot from your videos. I like this video too and I have some questions to clarify with you. I am trying to grow the stem cutting in water now as I failed twice growing them in soil.
    1) Is there a difference to put fig tree stem cutting in water or soil?
    2) What is the reason to score the bark of the cutting?
    3) How about watering? Do you water it before putting the plastic cover and water only after 7 days after your remove the plastic cover? Then how do you water after removing the plastic? I always have issues with watering.
    4) How about sunlight? Do you put the cuttings in the sun, near the window with indirect sunlight or in shaded area? And for how long before you allow it to grow in the sun?
    Thanks so much!

I had literally just told myself yesterday that I needed to look up how to do cuttings from my fig tree! I’m going to have to check out your other info too - the growth you achieved in a year is impressive. Mine has done really well, but I think the record snowfall we got here in southwest Arkansas the end of winter last year took a toll on it. I did get a decent amount of figs this year, but not as much overall growth as I expected. Thank you for another great video. 🙂

You recommend having the figs under the plastic bag 'dome' for only 1 week. Why only 1 week? And what kind of environment to you have them in following that, order to promote root growth. I just bought some fig tree cuttings and put them in the potting medium (per your 'recipe') a week ago. I want to ensure the best success for rooting the twigs, so I am interested in your advice. I live in the Sacramento area.

Ive searched long and hard for a real detailed method. When do cuttings need to be taken? Do you place them in the refrigerator? How often do you water and what amount of moisture should be in the starting cups? Once it has leaves how long until you transplant. How long should they be in the starting cups until you determine if they worked.
these seem like normal questions people claiming to teach growing figs should explain

Just want to mention this in case anyone else didn't notice-- ONLY DO THIS WITH GREEN WOOD AND NO HEAT. If you do it with dormant cuttings or when using a heat mat, the compost rots, the humidity causes the cuttings to leaf out without growing any roots, and overall you will have a very sad, sad experience!!!!! Leaves before you have roots are bad news.

Very concise and comprehensive, thank you for making the point with regard your percentages of potting mix, compost, and coconut matting. a lot of information packed into a very few minutes. Big thanks :) (John, Perth, Western Au')

This is so clear and easy to follow, thank you very much! I’m cutting some of these starter twigs from my mother’s fig trees here in Maryland.

I was going to buy 4 pack of different kinds of figs off Amazon...... But jus now when I was leaving a friend's i saw a fig tree on the side of my friend's house.... I jumped out the Uber car and took some cuttings. My friend knows that I'm that weird person that's gonna play in random garden... My friend and my Uber driver had a good laugh at me. I'm gonna use your methods to toot them. Thanks.!

I have an awesome fig tree and the figs are huge. I wanted more trees and was wondering how to propagate stems. Very timely video, thank you!
