Yoruba: A Niger-Congo language of Southwest Nigeria
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лип 2024
- In this video, we talk about the Yoruba language, an important language in Southwestern Nigeria, some phrases in the language, grammar features such as its tonal system, aspec/mood in verbs and others, and then end off with some longer sentences. This language may have even contributed some vocabulary and grammar words to some creole languages. This language has a lot of rhythm and may even contribute to some dialects of American English. It also contributed a great deal to Lucumi and other West African derived religions practiced in Cuba, Brazil and elsewhere.
Question of the day:
If you speak or have studied other Niger-Congo languages, then what similarities or differences does Yoruba have with this other language in grammar? Those who speak Yoruba and have heard some of the Yoruba-influenced lithurgical languages, can you understand it, how different is it from modern Yoruba?
For those who don't speak Yoruba, what parts of its grammar did you find familiar or unknown?

Nice video! One extremely key aspect of Yoruba is understanding how age/status influences how to address people. Without this, you will not be able to communicate with people trust me! Very similar to Chinese or Japanese in that respect
