Lukla Airport dangerous?

- The shown movies gives the impression that the airport is dangerous. Otherwise there was only one accident with dead passengers since the airport opening of 1964. Since this time there were round about 300.000 landings and take offs.

In Lukla nutzen die Piloten aber den Schwung, da die Piste bergauf geht, und da der Flughafen sehr stark frequentiert ist. Sie rollen nur deshalb so schnell bergauf um den Weg für die nächste Maschine freizumachen.

It's obvious why it is so much more dangerous than other airports.
On other, regular airports, if something goes wrong, you can always try to land at a different runway if the main one is blocked, go around and try again or divert to another airport, in worst case make a crash landing in the direct vicinity of the airport (example, Turkish Airlines that crash landed in the vicinity of Schiphol in 2009).
In all those instances, the airport's emergency services are close by.
In the case of Lukla, if you can't land at the runway, you're out of luck.
Fly back to Kathmandu if you got warning in time or if you have to abort, try a suicidal go around.
And no crash landing on flat terrain in the airport's vicinity.
At Lukla, if something goes wrong, everything goes wrong.
There’s actually video of a pilot that made a go around at lukla, it was intense!
What makes this airport dangerous is marginal weather, especially low cloud as it prevents the pilot from being able to accurately align the aircraft with the runway. This increases the likelihood of a missed approach which in any event is limited by the terrain. So long as the weather is fine and the crew are properly trained there should be no problems.
There is no "go around".
Other than the standard precautions for mountain flying, this airport is not dangerous when flying in adequate VFR conditions.

It's still pretty bad with 7 accidents in 7 years, even tho not all had fatilities on a such small airport.. Like compared to my closest airport wich have like 5-6 million passengers each year, the most serious thing that happend since it opened in 1980's was a drunk student hijacking a plane, first demanding to speak with the prime minister, but then later agreeing to let them go for more beer..
Since one week only 2 accidents with dead passengers at all.
most of them occur due to weather not faulty machinery but overweight plane.

The road got as far as Jiri. It took a day to drive there from Katmandu and a further week of walking to get to Lukla. A road might well benefit the locals but it would tend to harm the tourist trade who don't want to simply be in another motorized community like the one they left behind at home. Part of the reason for walking in the area is the feeling of remoteness that you can get here.

That is false. latest happened just 2008 and 18 people were killed. And six crashes alone in the past 10 years.
