      @@livingsurvival Yesterday I saw some guy cleaning off fatwood goo using hand sanitizer(HS).
      ...yeah, the silly rabbit's whole fire looked fatwood, and his kit looked horrible. But the HS worked.
      I wonder how it works on just soot? ...even fatwood goo off an axe sounds great.
      I'm getting some for my pack.
      tips me hat ~

      @@livingsurvival After using it for a few years, I really love it, lightweight but the metal feels strong despite being so thin.
      Was expensive, but doesn't feel like a waste of money.

    Strong push down the home stretch on your daily reviews! Great idea from start to finish so far! Nice way to show a variety of options, not only for weight, but the efficiency as well. That was one quick boil!

    My name is Terry and I'm a Kayak Fishing Guide and Avid angler. I also film with a web based Kayak Fishing show called 30 Miles Out. I've always used a Camper to camp, on our trips but I had a divorce and had to sell my diesel and trailer. I have two boys 15 and 7 and my 7 yr old has a kayak and goes with me on most of my trips. He is an amazing fisherman for a young kid. Anyway, I changing tactics to get the boys more into the outdoors and teaching them camping and survival skills. I've been purchasing tools based on your reviews and wanted to say thank you for doing this channel. Too many products out there to not be armed with information before purchasing. Hopefully I can get a channel up this year to teach skills and review product uses in my arena. Maybe when that time comes you could give me some advise. :)

    Titanium is stupid expensive and although very good gear, it is little more than a fantasy for most of us and show off gear for those who do have it.

      +TurtleWolf Pack lol. when cutting weight for backpacking for example it is a necessity for me. I'm taking a trip in Feb where we are backpacking in and i am taking a tipi and titanium wood stove. If it were stainless it would be too heavy.

      Greg Letter nothing wrong with stainless, i have plenty of stainless kit. but with a full on backpacking pack for multi-day hikes you will be thankful you cut weight wherever you can. people cut tags out of items to save grams. so might not be for you but I don't do videos just for you now do i?

    Great tips, but one question... Instead of using the moss to clean the soot, why not just rub it in the dirt where you cleared for the stove? "Natures Scotch pad". I am looking at the Emberlit Fire Ant, but the full size looks good too. Do you have any videos on a comparison and do they hold an Olicamp nesting cup well?

    As you said, it's not cheap. But I think it's brilliant. But when it comes to customs duty, it is much more expensive, even if you live in europe. But I have this kit on my wishlist and maybe someday I buy it, if I saved enough money. Thanks for sharing.

    So I have been thinking about picking one of these up for a while I pulled the trigger on it and it's great the only thing that is weird is there an internal lip that stops the last bit of water from coming out like the neck of the canteen comes down past it's shoulders by almost a centimetre you can feel it with you finger (by feeling the inside the bottleneck, the very bottom part) , does yours have that or is mine a lemon? Keep up the good work

    I avoid burning cedar for cooking due to higher soot production....choose other hardwoods that burn cleaner (although most any wood will soot up the cookware to an extent).....thumbs up!

    Another reviewer did highlight a possible concern with canteens that have a fold/join in them, like this one does. Over time, it could be a good breeding ground for bacteria, maybe it's best to boil water in it occasionally.

    At $163 retail and $158 on their website for this canteen, I think it's extremely overpriced. I understand its titanium but do you really need titanium? I'll stick with the reasonably priced Self Reliance Outfitter, Dave Canterbury, bulletproof canteen at $59.99. I can't rationalize spending so much money on a water container like Heavy Cover.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  8 років тому

      +CAPTBIZZARRO when backpacking i always go titanium everything. when you can save pounds with an entire cookset it is well worth it. plus it will never rust, easy to clean. nothing wrong with the pathfinder version, just depends on how crazy you go cutting ounces and grams.

    • @captbizzarro3141
      @captbizzarro3141 8 років тому

      Heavy? Pathfinder canteen is 1.9 lbs. Heavy Cover is .69 lbs. I would rather carry the extra 1 pound instead of paying $100 more for the Heavy Cover canteen. In the scheme of things, I don't think the 1 pound difference is worth the extra money. Did you return your leaking canteen? Rusting? Really? I never heard of stainless steel rusting. My Pathfinder canteen has held up thus far, so has my Pathfinder bottle. I have not experienced any of your complaints. Nonetheless, I think $160 for any canteen is outrageously priced even if it's made of Titanium and lighter than stainless steel.
