@@iankingbass I like your three preamp system, as a fellow doubler: my solution has been the RMI Basswitch (built by Lehle and discontinued), and now my GR acoustic combo is getting the job most of the time. Giving the PA a pre-blended and EQ'd signal is vital. By the way, love your playing! :)
Very cool! I'm a drummer/percussionist and always enjoy seeing how bass players think about things. Who was on drums + perc here? A real lesson in rhythm section + click playing every time you cut to a performance video.
Hi Aidan, thanks for getting in touch, great to hear from you.. The drummer is Justin Shaw, such a top bloke to have on a gig like this, he holds the drum chair on MJ the musical in town.. The percussionist is Aisha Djidjelli who plays drums with the Hans Zimmer Live touring band.. She’s just won a couple of ‘Modern Drummer’ awards actually.. One for her work with Hans and the other for her playing on the film ‘Dune 2’.. She’s wicked! Cheers, Ian

Hey Christian. Yeah, bit stressful! But my mate Andy on guitar did me a solid and helped put the double bass in the stand whilst I faffed around with pedals! Got there with a bar or two spare…. Just!
@iankingbass yes good job everyone. While not being a professional, I even need time adjusting to a different set of strings. Can imagine smoothly switching between instruments.
Great video thanks Ian, can I ask what stand you use for the upright bass ? I've just got my daughter an electric upright for Christmas but not sure what stand to get that's trustworthy. Thanks Again. All the best
Hello the bass monster! Thanks for the message. I’ve got a Stagg one. It’s pretty sturdy and didn’t cost hundreds of pounds! (Around £65 from what I remember - I’ve put a link in the description below). I tend to gaffa the ‘feet’ to the floor, just to be a bit ‘belt & braces’ about it all, but overall it seems pretty solid! Cheers, Ian
Just found your channel Ian -and very happy to have done so! Absolutely fantastic playing; perfect blend of solid groove and unbelievable chops! 👌Playing at this level do you ever stress over having just the 1 five string on stage -incase of malfunction? I've seen a few videos lately of that 3 Leaf pedal and it sounds great (and very expensive!) 😁 Very nice work Ian, thank you for making this video! 🙏
Hi Rob, thanks for that, very kind of you to say! I know what you mean re. the 5-string, and I always change the 9-volt battery out before a gig like this. But overall, I know that I’ve got the passive 4-string to use if anything goes wrong with the 5-string. That 3 Leaf pedal is great actually, and while v expensive, I think I’ll always be pleased I got hold of it. I’m going to do another video featuring my smaller board soon, and I even wondered whether a video on putting together a more affordable rig would be useful to bass players. Lots to be getting on with in 2025! Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, great video and really informative- I’ve not seen the Caveman stuff before, if you were using a backline rig would you always choose BP-1 over say the DI output from an Aguilar AG700 for the FOH send?
Hi Gunsfreddy, that’s a great question. I would always choose the Caveman over the D.I. Output from an amp (even a high quality amp like an Aggie). The Caveman D.I. is … how do I put it… super awesomely posh in the extreme! Cheers, Ian

Thank you that was very interesting it has to be amazing to play in wembley arena
Hi JHardy, thanks! Yeah it’s quite something I have to say.. Thanks for checking out the vid, Ian
Great video, you need to keep this going!
I shared the video on basschat today
Also, I bought a 5 string sei bass off you years ago, had Chris McIntyres name on it, oval inlays, you remember it?
Keep this up please, it’s a good insight into the real life of a working bassist!
Hi @@TonyShep65 Thanks for the message and great to hear from you! Thanks for sharing the vid on basschat, very kind! I’m gonna do a few more of these type o’ vids yeah. My next one will be a ‘mini-board roundup’ kinda thing, and then I’m going to look at a more affordable way to put a pro-sounding doublers board together. Anyway, yes I remember that bass, it was a good un! One of those ‘why did I let that one go’ basses! 😆
Very cool! Thanks for sharing this!!
Cheers for that!
Great video and explanations
Thanks James, much appreciated! 👍🏼
Outstanding work mate. ❤
Thank you my friend! 🫵🏼 🙌🏽
Wow, that's some smoking bass playing there. Great video.
Hey 68Goldfish! Thanks so much, really kind of you to say!
Excellent stuff Ian , hope you're well brother
Cheers@@alexcarter66 It’s been a while yeah! Hope you’re doing good, hope to catch up at some point 👍🏼
Fantastic video, thank you. You have a touch of David Gilmour about you.
Hi there, thanks.. Ha, yeah a few people have said that… I wish I had his cash! 😆
Good work, sir!
Thanks very much! 👍🏼
Great video Ian. Have a great 2025
Thanks@@alexkidd4144 and a happy new year to you too!
9:00 amazing how you can stay focussed on your playing with those vocals sounding like someone's strangling a herd of cats 😂
@@user-kb2zv5be8x 🤣🤣I’m sayin nothin! 😆
Thanks for sharing man
@@CuchoCanton cheers 👍🏼
Great rig tour from a working pro (like me 🤓), thanks!
Thanks Laurence! Hope you found it useful. All the best, Ian
@@LaurenceMollerupVery cool, the GR gear looks GREAT! Are you happy with it? Thanks for the kind words 👍🏼
@@iankingbass So far so good!
Very cool!
Thanks JTthunderbass! (Great name) 👍🏼
Cheers, Ian
@@iankingbass Thanks for your response Ian! I'll definitely be listening to them both more. 👍
Great 🔥 Thank you
Hi Giuliomolteni, thanks for that! 👍🏼🙏🏼
Thank you !
Thanks for checkin out the vid 👍🏼
Beautifully presented video with great explanations of the rig - delivered in a calm non-patronising manner. Would be great to know what strings you were using on the BBP34? Loved the show clips - you absolutely nailed Dancing Queen!
Hi GSquared! Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot. Really glad you enjoyed it. I use Elixir Nickel wound coated strings. Gauge 45-65-80-100 on the 4-string. I love them! Smooth feel, nice warm, deep tone and they last forever! Cheers, Ian
Yes it is Ian " You can't blame Louis" 😊
Love that tune! 👍🏼
Nice, I wonder how the 'synth-y' sounds without the chorus pedal on
Hi @mojito6629 Good question! It’s still pretty phat, but does t have the ‘shimmer’. It’s a bit more - straight dirty n subby kinda thing.. Cheers, Ian
Ian pure wow! Your synth sound for Olly Alexander tune needs explanation please! Deary me what a bass tone! Thank you in advance chief! 🤙
Hi acidbass, thanks so much for that! I’m definitely going to shoot an ‘explanation vid’ where I talk about the settings for the FX on this board. watch this space! Thanks again for the good vibes, Ian
Oh no, a magic tone wood aficionado.
Mate, your synth sound is FAT. Love it!
Switching from double to electric mid song .... Crazy
Cheers, Ian
@@iankingbass yes please Ian, your take on a more affordable rig would be great to see
@@KiatHuangRight, I’m on it! 👍🏼
Cool video, thank you! Anyone ever tell you that you resemble David Gilmour?
Hi@@mikevonhohenstein5587 Ha, yeah a few people have actually! I’m probably a fair bit shorter than him tho! 😆
Great Vid 👌
Thank you@@DJFisherBass 🙏🏼
Hi Ian, great video and really informative- I’ve not seen the Caveman stuff before, if you were using a backline rig would you always choose BP-1 over say the DI output from an Aguilar AG700 for the FOH send?
Hi Gunsfreddy, that’s a great question. I would always choose the Caveman over the D.I. Output from an amp (even a high quality amp like an Aggie). The Caveman D.I. is … how do I put it… super awesomely posh in the extreme! Cheers, Ian
