Back in the late 80's early 90's we would travel to Calabogie, Canada to hunt deer and the guides used dogs. Some of the best hunting I've encountered. They brought out some massive Swap Donkies! We would be placed early mornings on watch lines. I doubt that outfitter is still in business. Good luck Mr. Dennis!
In another note. I got my new blind put up, it’s not as nice as yours, but it’s nice. I got out and done some squirrel hunting this morning, I got two, my buddy didn’t get any. Squirrel for supper.
@ it amazes me how many idiots doubt your decisions and 70 years of experience.I would think rather, they would learn from a professor of the woods like you.
Hard for me to argue with you when I agree with everything you said. No deer hunting with dogs here but I sure had some good times hunting yodel dogs with hounds. The lazy guys sat in the trucks. That wasn't me, I most often was the walker and that is were I wanted to be. Walked the dog into the woods and let them go. It wasn't long and the dog was gone to wherever but would occasionally check back as I walked long enough to say hello and be off again. When I'd hear that first yelp It would stop me dead in my tracks and just listen. Then a second yelp and a third, as they got closer together and more frantic you know the track is getting hotter and it's game on and the hart starts pumping. A lot of the time the coyote would make a big loop and come back my way. There were times when the yot crossed the road and my driver was waiting for me as I ran across the fields with snowshoes on. Nothing lazy about that. A two hour race with nothing to show for it but the smile on my face was far better than a 10 minute race with a coyote in the truck. Dead coyotes are easy to catch and if they don't run they ain't no fun. I hunted with dogs Dennis and dam it was fun so you ain't getting no back talk from me.
@@roblow5522 Thanks for sharing that. It sounds like lots of fun. Got me to thinking about hunting what the locals called swamp rabbits. They looked like overgrown cotton tails. This was in Arkansas back in the 60’s. Long hard chases through the swamps. It was done with beagles so it was possible to keep up . At least for a while. Slogging through the swamps in rubber hip boots was a mite difficult. Glad I did it in my 20’s .
That load will knock the taste right out of your mouth! Reminds me of some 3 inch 2 oz lead turkey loads I had. One thing I've learned doing UA-cam is folks are gonna find something wrong with everything you do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject.
A few thoughts, I have never hunted deer with dogs but sure would like to. But I would never hunt ducks without my dogs. Sad but we elect politicians who make laws on things they know nothing about. One more thought, watching you many times on the bench in the Quigley sighting in. Flintlocks, #1s and now shot cannons. You sir have one nice trigger squeeze. Never have I seen a single bit of movement or flinch. And flintlocks and shotguns will show it all. Good Luck on the hunt.
@@wasatchretrievers4035 I hope you get to try deer hunting over dogs someday. It is a lot of fun certainly. And duck hunting without my lab would be a real bummer. I had a great line of labs for 30 years. Wonderful dogs. When my last one died I decided to not train another one. My wife and I just got a dog to have as a pet. First non working dog we ever had. He was a black golden doodle. He was fantastic to say the least. What a pleasure. He died at 11 years old. Dian declared thst she was never going to have another dog. Three weeks later we brought home a beautiful female redhead golden doodle pup. She has been our resident Terrorist!!! But we love her and have resisted the urge to send her to Quantonimo Bay!!
