Excellent video as always. Getting pretty fired up but we'll probably wait for rifle season. A lot of the roads we used to take to get to the deer woods around Erwin got washed out by the flood. We'll give things a little more time to settle down. Good luck this year and I look forward to the upcoming videos.
@@allenhughes12 we had mire damage here at the farm than ever before, but nothing like Erwin. I can’t even imagine what so many around that area ard going through.

@@jakeanddaddyoutdoors7543 thank you and thanks for watching.
Mr. Pritchard, I really enjoy your videos and learning more about flintlock rifles. I am 65 years old and have only shot percussion cap muzzleloaders. What caliber is your Kibler rifle? Is there anything different you would do when ordering another flintlock? Thank you.
Dennis, your work is maticulous. You have an attitude of excellence. I have a problem that im hoping you can help with. I have a 99C that is my pride and joy, but its giving me some grief. A couple years ago i took a nice buck with it and it was hitting right where i aimed. Last summer i thought id take it out before deer season and just make sure it was zeroed. It wasnt even hitting the paper! At 50 yards i was lucky to get a 12" group. The only thing i did to the gun between seasons was a deep clean. I used hoppes#9 and brass brush and patches till the patches came through clean. Could that do anything detramental to accuracy?
That is the problem of getting old you can't see as good as you used to, and like I tell my wife getting old wouldn't be so bad if you didn't hurt all the time from all the hard work
@@normanphair8488 So far I have not found a single advantage of getting old. But I am still looking.
Well I tell you what that is a fast action
@@normanphair8488 the Kibler is a fast action.
How about a percussion cap is that okay
@@normanphair8488 I have percussion cap rifles. They are ok, but not as much fun as are flintlocks. Also percussion caps have been very hard to find.
I have a Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle that I put together a year ago in the hopes of hunting early muzzleloader season in Pennsylvania, and for the life of me I can't get it to hit center. Windage and elevation are dead on just 4 inches low and I can't seem to get it to come up any more !! Not sure what else i can do or something I may have done wrong while putting the rifle together !!
@@richardcox2229 if I understand you correctly, your point of impact is four inches lower that you want it to be. Raising or lowering your point of impact is very simple. Assuming of course you are using the same load all along. Adjusting fixed iron sights is easy but can be confusing. Just keep in mind you move the rear sight in the direction you want your point to impact to go. And conversely, you move the front sight in the opposite direction that you want the point of impact to go. You do this by driving the sights left or right in the dovetail for windage. With fixed sights you have to file either the front or sight down. In your case you need to file down the front sight just a little. File very little at a time. File a little and test fire a few rounds to check your progress. The Kibler’s have a reputation of shooting low. Most folks say they have to file the front sight way down. In my case it shot high. Kibler actually makes a higher rear sight that might solve your problem. In my case I needed a higher front sight which I ordered from Track of the Wolf. Hope this helps. Did I understand you correctly? Please keep me posted. Dennis
@@richardcox2229 let me be a little plainer. You can install a higher rear sight , or file down the front sight. You can move that point of impact an unlimited amount by raising that rear sight higher and higher. You are limited by how much you can file down that front sight.
Enjoyed the video, and your shooting advice is spot on. I have observed folks at Rendezvous gripping their rifle like it is a deadly snake just an inch away from biting them. If you can get them to relax and just let the rifle become an extension of the body they shoot much better and accurate. Sage advise from a woodsman. Hope you didn’t have any damage on your farm from the storm, going to take a long time for folks to recover from it.
@@timharrison744 howdy Tim. We had storm damage but not nearly as bad as some. It will take awhile to clean it all up. Thanks for asking your thoughts.
My eyesight is shot also.
@@garyhammond2213 that is not a help! But I guess you have already discovered that!!!
Thanks for the tips on how to shoot the flinter. It was never explained to me and I had noticed the weight of the barrel on my left arm becoming a problem with accuracy as the day got on. Really appreciate the advice from someone with this much experience, you should do a video just on a bunch of shooting or loading tips, stuff youve learned that could help new or even experienced shooters. In any case, I really enjoy the content you make. Very informative, definitely be here for the long haul

I enjoy all your videos, especially this one. I decided to build a rest like yours, but I did not find any 2 x 8 scraps. Then, I remembered my brother, who died from Covid19, loved to work with cedar and gave me some rough cedar before he died. In it was enough for the 2 x 8 and 2 x 6 needs. I have a planer and will plane them down and build a not only useful but beautiful rest in his honor. I don’t do powder guns much anymore, but I love high end air rifles. The rest does not have to be as stout as for a high-powered rifle, but the other principles are the same. I am 79 years old, so I hope to stay as nimble as you are.
