Clever and fun - glad I stumbled on it. Neat share - thanks! I see somebody mentioned Vicious Cycles in the comments and I see it's also on YT - that's next....
I just watched this on TCM yesterday as part of their 31 Days of Oscar. Apparently it was nominated in the Best Short Subject, Live Action Subjects category. Personally I think the Oscar nom was well deserved as I found it to be very clever and amusing. Thank you for uploading it to UA-cam as I plan on adding it to one of my playlists : )
WavyGravy22 if you liked this then check out a stop animation short called ;Vicious Cycles, its a little over 6 minutes long. I think it's better . But that's just me. Check it out, then let me know what you think? 😎
“Vicious Cycles” is another one this team made. My sweet dad Dave looks like a mean bad ass in the Vicious Cycle short. I still have that crazy military vest somewhere
I looked these guys up after watching this, out of curiosity. Menville passed away in '92, but Janson, as of today, 4/28/24, is still around. A very creative duo in their day. 👍
Funny how the director would later go on toward the end of his career to work on traditionally animated kids shows like Real Ghostbuster, Star Trek: TAS, Tiny Toons, and Batman.
Many had to out of necessity. Animation was being sent overseas. They had families. My dad and his Animation buddies made this. He had to transition from animator to timing director for TV. Their knowledge helped communicate to the overseas studios
I remember a film like this in the late 70's or early 80's with a group of witches riding invisible hot rod brooms. If anyone can think of what that one was called, it would be much appreciated!
My dad David Brain did an interview and talked about making these films with his Animation buddies. Ward Kimball son John is in these. He showed Walt and he loved them.
The gas prices on the gas station sign were 32 9/10 and 35 9/10. There was no periods before the 9 (nine tenths). The price of gas at the 76 station if you watch the gas pump was also 0.32 cents. I believe he drank a dollar's worth of gas, though not in reality.
Did they make this by scooting directly on their butts or did they actually have some kind of little scooters with wheels under them that are hard to see? If they did this by scooting directly on the ground, then it must have taken forever and been really annoying.
They would have to scoot on their butts one frame at a time. It would be virtually impossible to find actors nowadays willing to spend that much time and effort for effects like this.
They did stop motion. Took one picture, moved, took one picture, moved. It’s really crazy when you think about it. My dad was cameraman and PA in this one. There are more.
@@megantindle9010 So they did scoot directly on the ground? Because I could see how they could've done it either way - with scooters or without - and still used stop motion. Using scooters would've just made the process a little faster and smoother. I do stop motion projects myself, so I know how it's done.
I remember seeing that as a kid at the theater. A great oldie.
My dad was in the group that made these! They were all Disney Animators. Walt loved them and let him use Disney equipment
Intresting. That’s impressive
That ending! Was not expecting that!
Funny and clever.
A great watch. 👍🏼
i love that i can watch this in 2022
The director of this also used the same stop-motion technique for several spots for Gulf gasoline.
Classic! My favorite short subject EVER!
Excellent 1966 MGM short subject
Isn,t the San Fernando Valley BEAUTIFUL ? IT,s all overcrowded now ! And nowhere close to the landscapes being this clean ! 😀😀😀 .

Saw this in San Francisco in a multimedia showing with 3 big (for the time) screens. Mind blowing creativity!
A master piece!

I watched it today on TCM too!!!
TCM just aired it again tonight. classic
Just watched it on TCM a couple of weeks ago myself...

It’s exciting. It’s Intresting how it came through
This is the most 1960's thing ever.
I want to desperately see the guys from Rifftrax do this one.
If the lack of dialogue seems familiar, it shouldn't surprise you; MGM is the original home of Tom & Jerry (You probably knew *that*)!
Thanks, I have been looking for this video for several years.
This gives a whole new meaning to 'skid marks'.
$0.32 per gallon 😳
I gassed up at Costco yesterday... $4.83/gal. Wish I could go back in time, even if only to fill up my tank once, lol. 🚙
Disney sound effects :)
I've had dreams like this, except using a thin sled rather than ass-to-pavement action. :D
From the makers of Blaze Glory (Chuck Melville, Len Janson)

There was also a version where motorcycles were involved.

That one's great!!! ❤
I've seen some of it before. Funny and imaginative!

He began his traditional animation career by storyboarding a Road Runner cartoon -- Boulder Wham -- in 1965.
Top Notch!

@@mylesmoss1477 I also remember that Disney was gonna distribute this short as well but after Walt’s death new management rejected it
@@megantindle9010 your dad did some great work
Lol'd a lot :-)
Okay, I stopped watching when he passed by the gas station and the prices were 3.29 and 3.59. I'm scratching my head...
It's 32 cents and some fraction. It's hard to see, but it looks like 3/4 to me.

10 minutes well wasted!!!
P.S. Are they saying that the crash forced him to have a sex change?!?!?! 😅😅😅
TERFs would like to believe getting a sex change is that fast and easy.
I'm guessing he had to start driving his mom's car after the crash.
@@Afuwall this theory is much more palatable.
No, it's his twin sister.
