This song is an anti war song and a critique of our corrupt Government. A Government that is still pushing false flags to sell more war. This is why it’s so obvious to me why the concept of “We The People” needs to be separated from The American Gov. Majority of Americans want Freedom, peace and prosperity, NOT war, division and fear. Criticizing our corrupt gov is actually pretty patriotic. To wrap this thought, I know I probably don’t see eye to eye with Bruce’s politics or even yours. Doesn’t change the fact that this song is a banger and I still value your right to your own thoughts and opinions. MERICA 🇺🇸
South park deal with that issue in the 100 episode S7E1. Separating the people and the goverment, I`m a little Bit Country and I´m a little bit Rock and Roll.

BP, I knew this song would hit you differently if you knew the words. Vietnam tore a rip in that generation and Bruce witnessed it first hand on the streets.
My older cousin just passed away from Agent Orange related illness. Our mental health, addiction, and homeless agencies were flooded. It still is affecting our brave men and women who went to VC. We need to remember them today.
Brucie has done a 360. He’s a flaming libtard now.
Yes, It's an Anti-War song, but the song is about a Vietnam vet returning home from the war and being denied work, Vietnam vets were treated awful when they returned home
The last line in the song:
“I’m a cool rockin daddy. I’m a USA man!”
Our Vietnam vets were treated so badly when they came home! For that, I’m so sorry to them all. Most of us HAVE NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR THEM ALL.
Very well said. 💯 Percent
@@karensilvera6694 Not just the Vietnam vets.
@@markperry222 Maybe not, but the Vietnam vets got shafted harder than any other generation's soldiers. Their fathers came back as heroes from WW2, and their sons went to Vietnam. The vast majority fought honorably and did what their country asked of them, and then came home to be shunned and neglected by the American people (not all Americans, obviously, but many). The Vietnam War was a stain on our nation's history, and part of that stain is how we treated the guys who stood up and did what their country asked of them, whether they volunteered or were drafted. it wasn't their fault the war was bullshit and built upon lies... Americans voted for the politicians that orchestrated that war, and those Americans are far more to blame for that travesty than the young men fresh out of high school who were sent over. All they did was what their country asked of them. and 58,000 of them didn't come home.
Sadly popular songs during the Vietnam War were protest songs. Our soldiers were treated like the plague when it was over. There was no fan fare for those caskets being unloaded from the back of the transport. There were no one officially greeting them.. There were some official's in the hanger giving speeches but the plane was not visible to them.
Happy 4th of July
Nana❤🇺🇲
and not only that, SO MANY of the young boys were drafted and had no say in the matter, yet they came back after all that trauma, just to be yelled at and spat on. Horrible.
When Obama met Bruce he said "I'm the President, but you're The Boss".
And they both suck
As a wife of a deceased Vietnam Vet, this song means a lot to me. My husband served volunteering before beginning drafted. He was with the Army 175th Maintenance, a Hanger Rat in VinLong Vietnam. He passed away June 17th, 2023, the evening before Father's Day. My sons lost their Dad, Montana, and the USA lost a soldier. The way some in this country now think it is okay to call the military losers can kiss my ass!
My father served in vin long in 64 he was a Huey crew chief don’t remember the unit but they were called the roadrunners. If your husband was there in 64.I bet he and my father crossed paths!
Many hugs to you
@seankoonce4779 my husband was there in 71.
My cousin was killed in Vietnam. My 2nd cousin (his son) was raised without his dad. A war that was kept going by Republicans that made a lot of money! John Kennedy was going to pull our service people out of the war but was assassinated first! Johnson didn't run for another term and Nixon escalated it!
@sandralybrand9425 and Ladybird Johnson's family owned Bell helicopter which was the equipment flown in Vietnam. Most people don't know that or care.
Many Americans think that free speech only applies to opinions that align with their own. There is too much anger and violence due to intolerance. I love the opportunity to have a conversation instead of an argument.
Peace to you, your family and audience! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Springsteen was always supportive of the Vietnam vets
"Born In the U.S.A." was written as an antiwar song.
But still a banger on the 4th, dont ruin the party
Yes it was
Sorry, I read what you wrote wrong and even replied that it supported your actual comment. I just wanted to apologize, I'll go drink some coffee ✌️🤍
@@storbjork4257Lt Dan would smack you with his new legs
@@storbjork4257 don’t want the truth to ruin the party.
This song is rarely understood. America is great, but there was always a dark side.
Exactly! Always a price to pay also
And we are experiencing that Dark side right NOW! Thanks to TRUMP, MAGA SCOTUS, MAGA GOP, servers of the Darkest Elites, aka:The Heritage Society, we are going to lose our Democracy for a Dictatorship, PROJECT 2025 (google it). We must fight for our freedom, please understand and Vote Blue or we're screwed!💙👍🇺🇸
Explain that to BP because I sense he doesn't really understand the song as it relates to his biased Christian values.
Of course there's a dark side 👍
America can be really great by learning it’s history and making sure that crap don’t happen again!
Yes, a definite anti-war/anti-Vietnam song - and their struggles coming back and trying to get their lives together and feeling very lost.
Shout out to my father and all the other Vietnam vets who never got the respect that they deserved. RESPECT
Was fortunate enough to see him perform this live when the song was new. He started the song with the reminder "Blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get you killed."
You can love your country and support our troops while still being critical of our government. America is awesome in many ways but we have a long way to go to live up to the ideals of our Founders. They had to start imperfectly, but had faith in the future generations to make it better.
This is a protest song and is patriotic for that reason. It's a song in which the main character wonders what the hell happened to the America he thought he knew. In some ways, it's perfect for July 4th, 2024!
America gives us all wonderful opportunities. How you get from where you are to where you want to be depends on what your willing to do to get there. It's much harder for some than others, but possible. Rock on dude, Grandma Shirley out.❤
Exactly!! What is so especially cool about the Constitution of the U.S.A. is that it unifies 50+ other geo-political "states" by agreement AND it provides a means for amending it - a built in mechanism to keep up with the times and/or correct errors along the way.
@@GrandmaShirley-op4jm Some are willing to go to EXTREME lengths to GET THERE, sadly by nefarious means sometimes !!
@@aura81295 Especilly if the person in charge respects/believes in the Constitution !!
Proud to be an American, with its warts and all.
Most people don’t realize this song isn’t patriotic. He isn’t proudly stating he was born in the usa, he’s crying for help. “Please help me, i was born in the usa.” I cant help but cry when i listen to bruce, he puts his soul into his music. Truly a good man.
First off, he(the protagonist of the song)clearly got in "a hometown jam" and was offered the option of enlisting vs. incarceration.
What happened when they came home is a shame. Anti-war protesters called them "baby-killers", their government let them down, cut them loose as they largely have continued to in the intervening years.
Comedian and TV host Jon Stewart FINALLY was able to move forward legislation to offer help to veterans whose health and lives were destroyed by the aftermath of working over burn pits, much as he'd helped gain long overdue help and attention for 9/11 first responders suffering without significant, much-needed support.
😢💔
Happy 4th. ✌🏼😎🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
I love me some Bruce! He is still going strong, saw him back in April and he put on 3 hour show. Happy Fourth everyone!
To all the VETS! Welcome home and thank you.✌
Yes! It's so so sad they way our soldiers were treated when they came home back then. 💔
Was also pretty horrible how those soldiers treated the civilians in those foreign countries
@@shellyann8818 That's your country's fault. No one was attacking the US, so the US had no business being in Vietnam. You reap what you sow.
I actually did sing this song, in Germany, on the 4th of July, there for a friend's wedding. BTW, if you were born on a US Military base, anywhere in the world, you are considered to have been born in a US territory. This song demonstrates the incredible power of Springsteen's songwriting - it's the contradictions. That's why he's the boss❤🔥🎆
NEIL DIAMOND AMERICA IS ANOTHER GREAT SONG FOR TODAY!!! Although I love my home state Bruce and Jon Bon Jovi!!!! Woot woot happy 4 th everyone
That is a really good song. Love Neil Diamond. He's more from my parents generation but when I was around 9 or so I fell in love with his music and made darn sure I was able to see him in concert.
There is a GIGANTIC difference between Patriotism and Nationalism.
The first say "i love my country", the second say "my country is better and more worthy than yours".
Try to find the bad one...
*this is not meant for anyone, much less for Black Pegasus, this is just because many people seem to have a lack of understanding of the difference*
Yep 👍!
Agree 👍
Name a country more fair & free than the USA. Where would you go if it is destroyed? There is no where else to go. That is why all the famous voting to leave never do & never will.
@@vickiethompson9245Switzerland, New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Estonia, Iceland, Luxembourg, Finland, Norway to name some
This song is very anti government and how they treated the Vietnam vets. This song basically tells the story of a young man who gets into trouble in his hometown and instead of jail is sent to the military and ends up in Vietnam. His loses his brother and comes home to a country that no longer has a place for him. No job, no future security. Bruce has done a lot for Vets. He held two concerts back in 1981 in LA to highlight the plight of the Vietnam Veteran's Association which was running out of funds. He donated and worked with them to raise awareness. His is friends with Ron Kovic, a returning vet who wrote the book, Born on the 4th of July (which became a movie with Tom Cruise).
Bruce was drafted but failed the physical due to a motorbike accident he had a couple of years earlier. Bart Haynes, the drummer in his first band (The Castiles) went to Vietnam and was killed. Likewise another New Jersey musician, Walter Cichone, went and was also killed. He wrote The Wall for Walter. Bruce has said he wondered who was sent in his place.
You should listen to the acoustic version of this song. It certainly gives it a darker feel. You can't misinterpret the lyrics in that version.
ua-cam.com/video/5MtAxD9TE88/v-deo.htmlsi=TDcaWT48UsC2em8-
Protest of the Vietnam war. I felt so bad for the veterans of that war, they were drafted, sent by the government to do the job demanded, and were held responsible for the US governments choices when they came home. Respect to the Vietnam vets and all military active and veterans present and past who help keep us free.
Love Bruce and his passion for the people and against the corrupt politicians.
It is also a critical statement about how the returning Vietnam Veterans were treated.
September 2001. Club Hell, Providence Rhode Island. Just a few weeks after 9/11. The club was open for an 80s dance night. The crowd was gathered and dancing and possibly a little uneasy with the recent historic events that had taken place just weeks ago. The night was coming to an end and the DJ played this song. And EVERYONE in that club was united as one, arms around each other, singing at the top of our lungs. No differences mattered at that point! We were Americans and we were all there as one. Seeing tears in perfect strangers eyes as we just let go and screamed Born in the USA. It was a shame a tragedy of that nature it took to erase any differences then and there, but man that was a beautiful memory I’ll forever have thanks to this song!!!
What WHAAAAAT!!!!
I am proud to be an American!! This song is FIRE! I have been a fan of Bruce for over 30 years!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸To All Veterans And Their Families We Salute You 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Happy Fourth Of July Everyone🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸God Bless America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Springsteen is such a great storyteller, pretty much unsurpassed. Listen to tracks like "Racing In The Streets" or "Jungleland" or so many of his other songs and just see how he paints a picture with his lyrics and music. Just incredible.
Love it , love Bruce!!
It's protest song that dissects the cruel mistreatment of Vietnam veterans upon their return home after the war..I hope you react to Jimi Hendrix "Star spangled banner one time.He simulates the bombs, rockets, sirens all the chaos that was Vietnam & the 60's
Saw his Born in the USA tour at the Boston Garden in 1977. The audience cried real tears during this song. We all knew what it was about.
Great reaction BP love and respect to all our American brothers and sisters from the UK 👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
America! Happy birthday!
Another must by Bruce Springsteen is "The Rising". Bruce wrote it in remembrance of all the victims of 9/11. It is from the point of view of a firefighter as he is trying to rescue people while climbing the endless stairs in one of the Twin Towers. Twenty years later and this song still chokes me up.
It's a pretty patriotic song if you think about it. Patriotic in the sense that in America, we are able to be critical of our government without fear of persecution or death, as in some other countries. You can love your country without loving the government. Love these reactions, man!
Let share with you some words that were given to a people also going thru some very dark times, these words have always been a comfort to me. "No matter what happens today, know this...... Tomorrow, the sun will rise, the wind will blow, the waters will flow, the grass will grow, and the sky will be blue." Chief Black Elk
You, absolutely, understood this song, from the get-go.
It is NOT a celebration, it is an indictment.
...the vast majority of the increased audience who gravitated to this artist, this band, did NOT (or refused to).
This is the core of what Springsteen & E Street have always done, and do BEST!
"We the People"!!!!
My uncle was in college at Tulane, played defensive end. He was drafted to Vietnam and became a Green Beret. He learned fluent Vietnamese….he did some crazy things over there. He went through the whole war, didn’t wanna come back….he was gone mentally, unstable. He would have been perfect in a constant war zone after the government finished with him. He committed suicide around 20 years ago….
I still have his old boonie hat from the war.
It’s a tradition with all my direct family that we went to college at Tulane University because of him.
I followed in his footsteps but joined the Navy…as I got older and look back at my life I really understand how the political world 🌍 works and it’s sad and evil…
Springsteen did nail this song.
Thanks for the honest reaction. I've got 30 years with the federal government. It's not all bad, even the political side. It has been responsible for some very good things and some very bad, as well as a whole spectrum in between. Ultimately, it belongs to all of us and we can make it better by coming together and talking to one another and hearing each other's point of view, which your channel helps facilitate.
As Bruce shows in the song, even through all the pain and frustration we feel somethings, in regards to our country or government, we are in this together and we can shout it together. We're American. This is who we are. This is where we're from. We'll remember the fallen and we won't give up on each other, even the ones who drive us crazy. 😂
Love to everyone. ❤ Happy 4th. 🎉
I think I mentioned this before. I saw the Boss live. He's a National Treasure....legend!
A proud Liberal that Springsteen.
Love him!
This song was a protest of the Vietnam war and a protest of how Vietnam vets were treated once they got home. They didn’t get celebrated as heroes like the US soldiers did in the previous wars, there was no welcome home parade.
appreciate a lot your live reactions, sir;-))......from France.
I'm American but living in Thailand. One of my sons was born in Freehold, NJ same as Bruce. We both wish you a happy fourth!
"Living in America" James Brown
I agree with you 💯. Sometimes it's hard to separate a singers raw talent and his or hers political affiliations or societal beliefs but I just listen to lyrics and talent. He's got fire. I love your channel and would be honored to meet you and shake your hand one day. Keep doing what you do.
I've long been a Springsteen fan. The first time I saw him live was the Born in the USA tour. Absolutely amazing.
Same. Still the best concert I've ever seen. Only at a Springsteen show will you see punks, bikers, and suits...of all ages...all standing and dancing and singing as one. Unforgettable.
Grew up listening to the Boss, my dad and Bruce are like twins lol. Plus he is a huge fan.
We played this song while my boys shot off fireworks. Perfect song for yesterday. Hope you had a great 4th with your family!
Very well said. I love our our veterans without them what do we have nothing not our freedom for sure they put their lives on the line for our freedom. Hug veteran and say thank you 🙏
GOD BLESS AMERICA BABY!!! YEAH!!!!
Happy 4th of July and God Bless America! Thank you for reacting to these songs on this special day.
Happy 4th from Canada.
My daughter was born in Germany too. Stuttgart. We enjoyed being there but were happy to be home in the USA
"You have a Republic - if you can keep it." - Benjamin Franklin
Lol! Me too!!! I went on a field trip in college to Southern Germany and when we went into the nightclub the DJ put born in the USA on lol😅😅😅
We aren’t out in this what feels like 100+ degree weather in TX! lol 😂 so we are watching you and probably some Patriotic movies. 🎥 good reaction, I do love this song mostly bc it brings me back to my youth. My mom had this “Tape” and played it in her car.
I was hoping you would be reacting to Neil Diamond’s “America”. It’s such a BEAUTIFUL song and I just get goosebumps when I hear it, especially on 4th of July . If you listen to ten lyrics, it’s just beautiful ❤I saw Neil
Diamond a couple times in concert, he’s so amazing! ❤
God bless America! 🇺🇸 God bless the USA ❤ 🇺🇸
Thank you so much for this story... I've never heard it either. I've heard similar but not this one. It was amazing!
Bruce wrote songs on what was going on in our society at the time, basically calling out what was wrong.
Happy 4th of July 🎉🎉🎉
Proud to be an American 🇺🇸
🤢🤢
may we remember our history, what we fought against in the world wars, and the mistakes of a past world as we sit on the cusp of dramatic change at this very moment. Will you continue to stand by America and fight for her democracy, or will you let the corruption rot this country from the inside out as you gladly sign away your rights under the guise of patriotism?
Such a great song and song writing by The Boss. This was fire. Thanks BP and Happy 4th sir. Take care.
Home Free - Go Rest High On That Mountain
Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountain. Vince wrote this song.
yes, but Home Free's cover is pretty damned good. Everyone knows Vince Gill did it first...it just depends on what version people vibe/connect with.
I like Homefree's cover better than the original
My Dad served. He did not necessarily believe in their idea for being there but he was an American Soldier and he went when called.
He was having a go at America at that time!!!
People do often forget that there is the Government and then there are Politicians.
Politicians come and go, but Government is always there.
Thank you for your video and I love vintage Americana too
God bless you and our veterans! ❤❤❤
Support the Troops, Protest the Wars.
Without wars, there would be no troops.
Listen to the words....
man i teared up when you said you've been dissapointed by artist in the music industry the last 4 years......me too man me too....artists i really connected with and really spoke to me completely changed and became the thing i thought they were speaking against. not just the last 4 years though.....artists i really respected 22 years ago.....when i did what i thought i needed to do to protect my family and my country and went to iraq...all of a sudden those artists were calling me a shill and a pawn and a murderer......it was really hard man
BP! When you got goosebumps, I had them too! Same Time ♥️🤍💙
Another 80s classic
Good to know a fellow Army brat. I too was born in Germany.....Army hospital🎉🎉.
Woo hoo !! Happy 4th of July Black Pegasus!! 🎉🎉🎆🎇👏🎁🎈🎈🏆🧨🧨🥇👏💥💥🎉🎉🎈💃🎁🎇🎇🧨🎆
What's "freedom" all about? We can be honest, express ourselves no matter our opinion. This song is proof of that. It captures the sentiment of many and hits a chord of belief that asks "why?" I served in the US Air Force for four years and two of those years were in Wiesbaden, Germany. Bruce Springsteen was making himself known when I was in Germany. He was on he covers of both Time and Newsweek magazines as the next "big thing" in popular music. So I've seen Bruce through all of his iterations. Born in the USA is a classic and always strikes a "patriotic" feeling even though it's an anti-war song. Americans can protest, it's how we got here. When you get a chance I would love to see your reaction to another Bruce song: "Valentine's Day" which is totally different than most of his hit songs.
"Americans can protest. We can be honest, express ourselves no matter our opinion." Oh what a lovely country you have there, with such unique freedoms. I'm jealous.
Happy independence to all who celebrate. Canada just had our Canada's day 4 days ago
Happy Fourth !!
Just wanted to stop and remember the "Big Man" god rest his soul who without him Bruce's music would not be the same!
Bruce is very patriotic and a democrat. He loves our country. He loves it so much he points out its shortcomings so we can make it better. That is true patriotism.
Bruce Springsteen does not love America.
Exactly. Well said. It's frightening we have so many Fascist Traitorous more ons in these comments.
Another good post-Vietnam song is Steve Earle's "Johnny Come Lately" which contrasts the treatment of vets after WW2 and Vietnam
I'm of that generation, I knew several guys that went to Vietnam, either met them when they returned, or knew them before they went over there. Still have letters from those who wrote me. Some were disrespectful to the soldier when they returned, not all. As stated in an earlier comment the governement was not exactly blame free. I recommeond you watch the movie Born On the 4th of July. It is with Tom Cruise (who is very good in it) based on the true story of Ron Kovic, who was paralyzed in Vietnam, and what happened to him when he returned. Ron Kovic wrote a book and it was turned in a movie by Oliver Stone. Ron Kovic and Bruce Springsteeen are friends.
Your spot on with your comments
Same happened here in Australia 🇦🇺
It was so bad the wharves would load military items and locked down wharves
To the point soldiers running out of ammunition and military took over the wharves
So could load what they needed for troupes
These guys never get a choice where or why they see service only have to follow order's
It's the government's who make those order's and put inactivation the military
Same happened here on return but the worse part is the military organisation that looks after returned soldiers
Didn't recognise them as it was classed as a policing action not a war
Which Intern ment they weren't entitled to receive the help they required
But when public found out years latter they pressured the government's and rsl which looked after return soldiers
To receive the help and benefits while they got some of it are still fighting them today over many medical conditions
If my memory serves me right B and S was a return Vietnam veteran but not a 100% sure these days getting bloody old 😂
Also never apologise for being patriotic to you home land as it's what's kept us the freedom's we have today
We are never free as always rules restrictions but why I used freedom's is we have more then many other countries and must always stand up for them regardless
From allies over the pond Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
I was BORN IN THE USA! ❤ God Bless America!
Thanks for the song it is one of his good ones
I was born on USAFB in Rantoul, IL! That was almost 55 years ago 🇺🇸🇺🇸❤❤
Hope you had a fantastic July 4th. Those of us in Canada just celebrated Canada Day on July 1.
Read the lyrics everyone, I was born here too and It's still a work in progress. It's time to weed the Garden! God bless America her foundation!
Born to Run is an even better Independence Day song.
You need to remember too that alot of the soldiers fighting in that war were drafted, they didn't volunteer to go but people still treated them bad for going.
Love your shirt!
Except they don't coincide with the words he speaks
My first concert was this tour.....I was 5.
Love this song so much. You might want to check out Home Free and Lee Greenwood's collaboration of God Bless America. Home Free also does a cover of Born in the USA. It is awesome. Love your reaction!
Thanks to your Dad for his service! God bless USA! ❤. You the best, Black Pegasus!
American Tune by Paul Simon is a beautiful, bittersweet song about our troubled country.
It amazes me how many people think this is a “patriotic” song aka jingoistic (although protest can be patriotic). You should check out his song The Wall, inspired by his band mate and also another local musician who died in Viet Nam. Make sure you listen to the intro. “America”
