Before Bruce Lee became a martial arts teacher, he was a cha cha dancer. He won the Hong Kong Cha Cha Championship in 1958, and he used his winnings to travel to the United States. While he was in the United States, he continued to teach cha cha dancing to make ends meet.

Women have always LOVED men that can DANCE. Did you know Bruce Lee was the Cha Cha dance champion of Hong Kong? And he was proud of that. And did you know that Patrick Swayze who was in "Dirty Dancing" and a professionally trained ballet dancer and also trained in Wushu, Taekwondo and Aikido? He shows that in "Road House". Like you said there's a relation between martial arts and dancing. I've been dancing since I was a teenager - I took ballet, jazz dance, modern dance and very favorite is salsa dancing (so addictive). And when I took Kenpo Karate I found that my dancing skills helped me with fighting technique and my kata - coordination, balance, flexibility & footwork are used in both arts. I was teenager in the 1970s and we were really into dancing, all the girls loved John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. In the 1980's, I was out at the dance clubs all the time. My husband and I still go salsa or ballroom dancing - he's a great cha cha dancer too. We met at the gym, he was bodybuilding at the time and he had trained in Hapkido in his 20s so I would say he's a pretty masculine guy and a good dancer, too.
This movie was about a town that banned music due to a teenager dying in a car wreck after a dance. Then in comes Kevin bacon who loves to dance and wants to change everything. Great movie, great song! And they still play this song on almost every radio station because it transcends genres. And I am definitely the one that blasts this song in my car...dancing down the road. But this video cut the song off in the middle. Also, there are so many NFL football players that take ballet classes to get their footwork better. LOL I hope your daughters break down that "toxic masculinity" because they're is so much you are missing.
You haven't even scratched the Kenny Loggins surface!! He was basically the soundtrack of my childhood. A lot of athletes knew the benefit of dancing. Even David Lee Roth from Van Halen took ballet because it helped his performance and endurance on stage. We didn't worry about it being not masculine enough in my house or any of my friend's home's. Oh, and watch the damn movie. It will be masculine enough for ya...
Watch Footloose, he taught another guy to dance. Back in the day musos had to try being different in every song, genres did NOT exist, you were not supposed to follow a narrow formula, to fit into a restrictive musical space to make the dj's job and cataloguing easier, you could not recycle the music, or steal/sample somebody's stuff, you has to be good at making stuff up, play well and sing better, or go home. The radio played Everything, so folks decided what was good. In aus, bands made it because the people wanted them, they came to attention playing pubs and clubs, where people danced etc. And so aussie pub rock was born. No one record exec got all of the power to decide for us.
Emmitt Smith the Running Back for the Dallas Cowboys back when they were winning Super Bowls took ballet to help him in his sport. Maybe it made him more agile?. He did earn 3 Super Bowl rings, all sorts of awards/honors, and he broke some records that he still holds. Yeah, we're pretty proud of Emmitt! [Edit: and during the off-season, he returned to college and earned his Bachelor's degree in 1996.]
One of my faves when I was 10......40!I suggest giving the movie a chance, it does revolve around dancing, but more so of fighting the stigma of dancing in smaller communities in the south.
If you want something by Kenny Loggins that is totally different again, give House At Pooh Corner a listen. Yes, *that* Pooh. It was written as a lullaby to his child(son?) at the time. It’s one of my favorite songs by him. ❤
Kenny Loggins has a soft side too. Check out Danny's Song (written for his brother when his son was born) or Whenever I Call You Friend, co-written with Melissa Manchester. She's another great 70's singer/songwriter, listen to Through the Eyes of Love or Come In From the Rain.
How interesting that you think he sounds so different. In my ears, it's so similar. Of course someone else did some of the dancing for Kevin. Just like someone else danced instead of Jennifer Beals in Flashdance.
Absolutely! Any of the gymnastics that Kevin's character performed were actually done by the brother of a member of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team at that time.
For a time, Kenny Loggins was part of a tandem called Loggins and Messina. They meshed beautifully. Loggins' voice and Messina's guitar. Try their Angry Eyes or Pathway To Glory and your idea of his range will expand considerably.
I fell in love with my husband because of his dancing. He used to have dance offs with this other dude every Monday at the bar I worked, and they were hilarious and amazing. And my stomach would hurt the next day from laughing so hard.
Love Kenny Loggins! He was also in the We Are the World video you recently reacted to. Also check out Loggins and Messina songs… Your Mama Don’t Dance and Welcome to Pooh Corner.
You want to hear Kenny Loggins at his most different sound? Check out his songs: 'Heart To Heart' and his kid's song (Yes, kids song) 'Return To Pooh Corner"
Dude, Lynn Swann, famous football wide receiver , practiced ballet to help him with football. Martial arts is really just dancing with a little added force applied to your opponent’s face. 😮😆
You just reacted to the Professor of Rock, who now is good friend of Kenny's. He has interviewed him at least three times. Including a long form concert slash interview in front of a live audience, in the vein of Inside The Actors Studio. Kenny was an early encourager of Adam Reader. He was one of the first to tell him that Kenny was surprise how good he was at interviewing him because of his knowledge. It opened doors for him. Kenny is a cool guy.
Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald singing “This is it” is a must & my favourite song of his. Kenny has a wonderful voice and great range. Love your reactions.
Kenny Loggins was the go-to soundtrack guy in the 80’s. Check out “I’m Alright,” from the “Caddyshack” soundtrack. The song cut off at the end. I’m pretty sure that was all Kevin Bacon dancing. A few years ago he did part of that dance on a late night show just to show he still could dance.
Kenny Loggins also has a beautiful children's song/lullaby although i cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. "Let's Hear it for the Boy" is another great song from Footloose.
80's classics - footloose -dirty dancing -pretty in Pink - 16 candles -breakfast club - st elmos fire -some kind of wonderful - say anything - lost boys ❤
Ive seen this version of Footloose countless number of times. It was my favorite movie tract for a long time and is still in my top 5. Love my music from my early years.
My cousin loved this song when it came out. He was a skinny 17 yo living in a rural town, not unlike Kevin Bacon here. He died in a car accident very shortly after. I don’t think in the 40 years that passed, I’ve ever gotten through this song in one piece. RIP Grant♥️love you.
As a young boy in the 80s, I remember Footloose was my mom’s favorite movie and this one of her favorite songs. But I never knew it was by anyone I’d heard of, let alone Kenny Loggins of all people.
Nice reaction. Speaking about your martial arts comment. Bruce Lee was a talented dancer, He competed a lot in China and was the the Hong Kong Cha Cha Champion in 1958
Back in his earlier career, he partnered with Jim Messina (Loggins & Messina). One of their songs almost died before it was released. "House at Poo Corner" was nearly killed for trademark issues. Winnie the Poo is owned by Disney and they are very strict with 3rd party use of their property. Chance saved it and we all benefited. He did the soundtrack for Footloose and Top Gun one after the other.
when you reacted to the *"We Are The World"* video, Kenny loggins sang his part and you said "I don't know this guy" I was sure you were about to react to Kenny Loggins soon ! He has pretty good songs
grew up a teen in the 80s. If you didn't see this one, you didn't see movies. I remember going to the drive-in theatre and seeing this a double feature - Karate Kid and Footloose.
Just FYI, Kevin Bacon had stunt doubles for the gymnastic moves and some of the harder dance moves. It was filmed here in Utah were I live. At the very beginning of this video you see the Lehi Roller Mills. My daughter works in Lehi and I pass that by every day I bring her to work and pick her up. 😊
For another side of Kenny, Try Return To Pooh Corner. Some of the acrobatic dance moves was done by an Olympic Gymnast. I was a wrestler, so I get your foot work and combat references.
Iconic song & movie. Kenny Loggins was the king of movie Soundtracks back in the 80's. Often times his music made the movie better or pumped it up enough to make the movie bigger than it may have been. Footloose is an incredible movie. It has dancing but it is not a dance movie. It is a story about a dry/religious town that had made dancing and some music illegal. Kevin Bacon's character is forced to move to this town with his mom. He comes from Chicago and cannot relate to these rules and challenges the system. He is an outcast amongst many in the community and ends up changing the views of many in the town. This soundtrack is excellent as well. Many hits from this soundtrack.
Based on the story, you may like Footloose. Rockin’ Roll versus the town’s clergy. It is based on a true story. From 1898 to 1979 Elmore City, Oklahoma. Dancing in the town was banned to help mitigate the consumption of alcohol. In 1979 the students at the high school wanted a prom. The town elders said, “No.”. A local minister called the dancing satanic. 1 year later on the voting of this again came up, the tie breaking vote came from a rancher. The ran he is quoted as saying for years, “Let ‘em dance.”. 40 years later the town is now recognized for its traditions of dance.
For his dance scene in the warehouse, Bacon said he had four stunt doubles: "I had a stunt double, a dance double [Peter Tramm] and two gymnastics doubles."
Kenny Loggins was written some of the greatest and most popular songs have become connected to very popular and famous movies. His name is connected to great music and having a killer good time.
Blake Shelton does the Footloose song in the remake. You just can't beat the original to this! The movie or the song! Just something about the Era we were in!!

Kenny is so underrated. Co-Wrote with Michael McDonald too.
The song is actually longer then that this version was shortened.
Kenny also did I’m Alright from Caddyshack and Nobody’s Fool from Caddyshack 2. I’m Free from Footloose. 80’s soundtrack icon is what he is.
Now you got to see his third personality by listening to his song called Danny’s Song.
Emmitt Smith the Running Back for the Dallas Cowboys back when they were winning Super Bowls took ballet to help him in his sport. Maybe it made him more
agile?.
"I Need A Hero" played while they were playing chicken on tractors
Kenny was part of the duet Loggins and Messina. Excellent music
Ok so now I’m Alright from the movie Caddyshack. Also for a whole other sound from him, Danny’s Song
This was THE dance song! When it was played at the clubs, at school dances, even at small parties... everyone danced!
Original Footloose is a must own!! He kicks a guy in the face with a flying jump kick!
YOU GOTTA SEE "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" ... TRAVOLTA CUTTING IT UP !!! LOL BEEGEES ALL OVER THE SOUNTRACK !!! CLASSIC !
Loved this movie..
I love everything he's done. He used to be part of Loggins & Messina and their music was great too. Been listening to him my whole life.❤❤❤
“I’m Alright.” Check it out.
Caddy Shack!
His falsetto in Heart to Heart oooh 👌
Dude, Lynn Swann, famous football wide receiver , practiced ballet to help him with football. Martial arts is really just dancing with a little added force applied to your opponent’s face. 😮😆
I left the theater after this movie looking for a place to go dancing!! We literally danced out of the theater….such a fun movie❣️
This is such a good movie and good message as well as the other movies you mentioned.
Every body saw and loved this movie great story good acting,Kevin Bacon John Lithgow really good!
LOL "move my hips and be all wiggly" next breath, ya wanna salsa. Ya funny!😂
One of if not the greatest movie sound track artist.
Kenny Loggins is a great rabbit hole to jump into.
He was also a part of a duo, Loggins and Messina before. An AMAZING song is Danny’s Song. Take a listen sometime.
Kenny Loggins also has a beautiful children's song/lullaby although i cannot remember the name of it for the life of me.
"Let's Hear it for the Boy" is another great song from Footloose.
80's classics
- footloose
-dirty dancing
-pretty in Pink
- 16 candles
-breakfast club
- st elmos fire
-some kind of wonderful
- say anything
- lost boys ❤
Ive seen this version of Footloose countless number of times. It was my favorite movie tract for a long time and is still in my top 5. Love my music from my early years.
Kenny Loggins also sang in the "We are the World", USA for Africa, song. He was right before Steve Perry
Listen to the rainbow connection,,Kenny loggins is so versatile
I love ❤️ Kenny L. especially that song 🎶 with Michael McDowell
Next on the Kenny Loggins playlist should be “House on Pooh Corner”…completely different yet again. LOL
when you reacted to the *"We Are The World"* video, Kenny loggins sang his part and you said "I don't know this guy"
I was sure you were about to react to Kenny Loggins soon ! He has pretty good songs
Loggins and Messina - Angry Eyes, House At Pooh Corner, Your Mama Don't Dance, Danny's Song - all over the radio in the 70's
grew up a teen in the 80s.
He was in "WE ARE THE WORLD" that you reacted to a little bit ago. Gotta dance to it for sure🎉
The studio version of 'This Is It' featuring Michael McDonald is the one you keep stepping over with this guy.
Go back to the beginning of Kenny Logan’s! Logins and Messena. House on Pooh corner! Awesome!!
Angry Eyes is soooo good!
"Whenever I Call You Friend" is an awesome duet he does with Stevie Nicks.
Kenny Loggins was written some of the greatest and most popular songs have become connected to very popular and famous movies. His name is connected to great music and having a killer good time.
Denice Williams hit #1 with her song "Let's Hear It for the Boy," also from the "Footloose" soundtrack.
Love the movie, love the song! Thanks ❤❤❤❤
Blake Shelton does the Footloose song in the remake. You just can't beat the original to this! The movie or the song! Just something about the Era we were in!!
As a girl dad, you need to react to "The House on Pooh Corner." Your daughter will love it, too!
